Robert Cornuke is the president of the Bible Archeology Search and Exploration Institute] in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a policeman for eleven years and, as a member of the famed Costa Mesa SWAT team and a crime scene investigator, he learned the techniques of investigation and scientific research which he uses today. He uses the Bible as a literal guide to find the Biblical locations which he has explored.

Bob's first explorations were in eastern Turkey seaching for Mt. Ararat with the late Apollo astronaut Jim Irwin whom Bob considers his mentor. Later investigations led to Israel and the Ethiopian highlands hunting for the Ark of the Covenant and to Malta in search of Apostle Paul's shipwreck. While most of these are non-traditional sites to find these archeological artifacts, many historical clues have been found at these sites, thus lending credibility to the accuracy of the Bible's historical record and Bob's research. As Bob states, "I am an investigator who uses the Bible as a literal guide, a compass if you will, to try to find lost Biblical locations and artifacts."

In addition to his BASE] activities, Bob is also an adjunct speaker to Louisiana Baptist University] from which he received a PhD. in 2005. He has written several books including The Lost Shipwreck of Paul and In Search of the Ark of the Covenant. He has appeared on CBS, NBC, MSNBC, The 700 Club and television's Ripley's Believe It or Not.

Controversy and criticism

Bob Cornuke's work has been the subject of various criticims, mostly surrounding his work on the Apostle Paul's Shipwreck and recovery of the boat's anchors and the discovery Mt. Sinai in Saudia Arabia instead of the traditional Sinai Peninsula location in Egypt. Most of the criticisms leveled at Bob comes from those who don't believe in the inerrancy of the Bible.

Contrary to some statements, Bob has never claimed sole credit for discovering Mt Sinai in Arabia. In his movie "Mountain of Fire" and during his lectures, Bob makes it clear that he received a basic map and instructions through various external sources that lead him to the site. Additionally, the Caldwell family, who lived and worked in Saudi Arabia during the 1990's, is given prominent credit for exploring the site and discovering many artifacts Bob Cornuke or Ron Wyatt didn't find, another archeologist who claims to have found Jabal al-lawz (Mt. Sinai) in 1984. Other critics have simply rebuffed the idea that Mt. Sinai would be in Arabia, instead of in the Sinai Peninsula.

Bob's work on the Apostle Paul's shipwreck has also generated substantial controversy. Bob's book The Lost Shipwreck of St. Paul described by the Bible in The Book of Acts, Chapter 27 details his explorations of the southern Malta coast and his discovery of ancient anchors recovered by serveral local fisherman in the 1970's. Bob's placement of the shipwreck on the southern part of the island is a threat to the tourism industry and led to the involvement of the Maltese Government and former US Ambassador Kathryn Proffitt in Bob's work. Ms. Proffitt filed suit against Bob to stop distribution of the book which was subsequently denied by a Federal Judge, alleging he violated a oral agreement to allow the Maltese government editorial and other rights to the book in exchange for the pardon of the fisherman who recovered the Anchors .
