Puddle of Mudd is not a grunge rock band, merely a manufactured 'nu-grunge' band in the same league as Nickelback, Creed_(band), and Staind. The original incarnation of this band formed in the mid-1990s in Kansas City, Missouri. After this incarnation split up, a new version was formed in Los Angeles by vocalist Wes Scantlin.

Before the current band formed, Paul Phillips named this band Puddle Of Mudd.
