Some Wikipedians have formed a project to improve Misplaced Pages's encyclopedic coverage of Pokémon. This (and its subpages) is the result. If you would like to help, feel free to add yourself to the participants list or inquire on the Talk Page.

If you'd like to bring an article to this project's attention, tag it with {{poke-cleanup}} or {{poke-stub}} or mention it on the talk page as appropriate.

Goals

References and Documentation

See the Pokémon Style How-To (which has superceded this Tutorial) and the FAQ. Some other information may be found on the PAC talk page.

Reference sources include:

  • b:Pokédex - Base stats, breeding info, the works. This only covers info from the core RPGs and the card game, and doesn't have Colosseum or Emerald info, though.
  • http://www.pokemondungeon.com/pokedex.htm - For pokémon from the Kanto and Hoenn series (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Stadium 1, Stadium 2). Includes pokédex entries, attacks, stats, and where to find it.
  • http://pokefor.greenchu.de/zukan/gba/pokemon - For pokémon up to the Orre series (Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Colleseum). Includes pokédex entries, attacks, stats, foreign language names (French, German and Japanese), and where to find it.
  • http://www.serebii.net/potw/ - Although only about half of all Pokémon have thus far have been a 'Pokémon Of The Week' here, this site is handy, because it tells you what episodes of the animé it has played a role in, and links to exhaustive descriptions of each episode's action (which can readily be summed up in a sentence or two).
  • http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/Main_Page - Bulbapedia - a Pokémon-centric wiki. Useful for Pokémon character information.
User:Wonk619 gave me a heads-up; Bulbapedia's content is licensed under the GFDL, so feel free to use its content when it's helpful. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs)
Actually, we're not. Content on Bulbapedia, like all articles on the Bulbawiki network, is licensed under the Creative Commons Deed, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0. That'll likely be changed to 2.5 within the next few days or so. In any case, while this license is quite similar to GFDL, there are some important differences, so please read it and be mindful of them. -- Archaic, Bulbagarden.net webmaster, a.k.a. Mukashi 20:12, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
What are the practical differences, or requirements for using Bulbapedia content on Misplaced Pages? And, incidentally, can Misplaced Pages transwiki stuff over to Bulbapedia (something I've been meaning to ask for a while)? - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 20:16, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
Good questions. I'm about to leave for University, so if you need an answer straight away, might I suggest that you contact either our editor in chief for the Bulbapedia project, evkl, or our technical specialist and editor Zhen Lin, both of whom would be able to answer your questions in this regard much better than I. If I remember correctly, the main differences are in how the article should be attributed, and what license the content should be under. It makes it a pain to share things between the two, I know, but that was somewhat intentional. We didn't want Bulbapedia to simply become a copy of Misplaced Pages content, or vice versa. In any case, I believe that it is possible to transwiki things over to Bulbapedia, yes, but as I have not done any article editing recently, I'm not quite sure on the specifics. Zhen would be your best bet there. -- Archaic, Bulbagarden.net webmaster, a.k.a. Mukashi 20:41, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
I'll do that, then kick this over to the talk page and replace it with a summary of the rules for using Bulbapedia content. Thanks for the info. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 20:48, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

Current 'Species' Article Focus: Weedle

What you can do

What can't you do? This needs a total rewrite, but, specifically:

  • Lead needs fixing up per WP:PAC/S
    • Needs to be clear about its role as a Pokemon (one of the first that the player encounters, etc)
  • Headers need fixing -- done. WindFish
  • Needs more info from the Anime - it's appeared loads of times. Plot summaries would be good.
    • I included the most relevant stuff I could find, but it really hasn’t played a noteworthy role many times. -- WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Needs just one section about the video games - done, but needs more info. WindFish
    • Stats ...etc...
      • Is that really necessary? I don't think anyone battles with Weedle, and you can't even teach it any moves other than String Shot and Poison Sting. -- WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Needs a biology section, including all of the info from all of the entries in the Pokedex.
    • Created, but needs more info -WindFish
      • Done, all Pokédex info (from 12 different games) synthesized into a prose paragraph. Wish it was longer, but the entries were all pretty repetitive. -- WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Try searching Amazon for books including it - does it appear in the news?
  • It must appear in the manga somewhere.
    • I put in the most prominent appearances from Pokémon Adventures, I don't know much about the other manga, don't currently have access to my Electric Tale of Pikachu stuff. WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Needs concensus as to whether “In the Pokémon anime” and “In other media” should have subheaders.

Note: In the anime section, there is a note on Casey, which has a link. However the link leads you to Abra.

Casey (Pokémon) I'm not sure what it means, or if there actually is an article on Casey, but maybe someone should look into it.

Probably because “Edgar Cayce” is pronouced “Edgar Casey”. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 14:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry, what had that got to do with Pokémon or Abra? Right... Highway 21:45, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
It's a bit clearer if you read the Abra article, where it tells you the Japanese name of Abra is "Kēshī". I suppose this can be romanized as "Casey", which would explain the redirect. WarpstarRider 23:52, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

What's been done

Current 'Other' Article Focus: Pokémon Red and Blue

What you can do

  • Maybe it needs a description of the game play? Maybe even a list of the problems within it that were later fixed in Gold/Silver (e.g. inability to go back and forth through Pokémon stat screens without having to return to the party list)? --WindFish
  • It needs which Pokémon can't be caught in either. Cultural impact? Sectioning off? --Celestianpower

Future Focus Articles

Suggestions for future articles for this project to focus on (and discussion of preliminary cleanup) should be direct to the Talk Page.

Completed articles

Articles appearing here are Pokémon-related articles that have once been the current PCP focus but have been deemed to be of a very high standard and can be used as a model for other articles. Editting of these articles is still encouraged however. The archives of what is done to them may be found at Misplaced Pages:Pokémon Collaborative Project/Species focus archive and Misplaced Pages:Pokémon Collaborative Project/Other focus archive respectively.
