Hey everyone, | |||
I'm still alive and well, although my Misplaced Pages habits have continued to remain dormant. To those of you still at it after all these years, I applaud you for your efforts.
Time marches on, and there's no stopping it. I've been wanting to contribute to Misplaced Pages for the last year but unfortunately having two full time activities (job and school) tends to really suck the time out of you. It was fun, but I'm afraid that I'm going to have to hang up Misplaced Pages for the foreseeable future. I've made this realization after jumping into IRC after a year of not being there actively and seeing that only a few people recognized me. Part of Misplaced Pages's fun for me was having fun with people, and I unfortunately don't have time to devote to learning a whole new crowd.
I have logged in for the first time in months (and edited this page in the first time in years) to proclaim solidarity with the Misplaced Pages community at large in their efforts to oppose ] and ]. What you guys are doing is fantastic; bills like SOPA and PIPA are truly evil and oppressive and using Misplaced Pages's respect amongst the Internet population at large in order to raise awareness is a fantastic idea. A total site blackout is exactly what you guys need to do. Thank you so very, very much for following the example of ].
I might pop in here every now and then and do the odd bureaucratic activity or help someone if they need my assistance, but it will most likely never reach the levels that it did back in 2005 and 2006.
I have been doing my part to fight SOPA and PIPA as well. I have been active on Facebook as well as offline and have been making all of my friends and some strangers aware of what these bills are and what it means for them. I have contacted my Congresscritters (], by the way, is a co-sponsor of PIPA) and have asked them to not support these bills. I also made the front page of the Providence Journal (the date escapes me but it was on a Sunday).
No one knows what the future holds... who knows, maybe the time will come for me to start editing again. But unfortunately, I've determined that making money and getting a degree are much more important to me.
For those of you who want to contact me, you can reach me via email at linuxbeak@gmail.com still.

My status, 2012-style!
Hey everyone,
I'm still alive and well, although my Misplaced Pages habits have continued to remain dormant. To those of you still at it after all these years, I applaud you for your efforts.
I have logged in for the first time in months (and edited this page in the first time in years) to proclaim solidarity with the Misplaced Pages community at large in their efforts to oppose SOPA and PIPA. What you guys are doing is fantastic; bills like SOPA and PIPA are truly evil and oppressive and using Misplaced Pages's respect amongst the Internet population at large in order to raise awareness is a fantastic idea. A total site blackout is exactly what you guys need to do. Thank you so very, very much for following the example of Reddit.
I have been doing my part to fight SOPA and PIPA as well. I have been active on Facebook as well as offline and have been making all of my friends and some strangers aware of what these bills are and what it means for them. I have contacted my Congresscritters (Sheldon Whitehouse, by the way, is a co-sponsor of PIPA) and have asked them to not support these bills. I also made the front page of the Providence Journal (the date escapes me but it was on a Sunday).
For those of you who want to contact me, you can reach me via email at linuxbeak@gmail.com still.
Good luck guys!!
