|The Medal of Honor franchise was a key series in the evolution of the modern first person shooter. Whilst numerous other titles |sourced from the same era were released, most paled in comparison to the content of the electronics arts frontliner. The Medal of |Honor series effectively created the genre of the wartime shooter and titles released even under a modern context now borrow |heaviliy from the foundations built by the World War Two Shooter. |

Upon their initial release, games from the Call of Duty series were seen as a competitor to the then key titles that had defined the genre. Medal of Honor was one of the titles responsible for the furtherment of Electronic Arts from a small scale publisher to holding such a large portion of the market as they do now. |

The popularity of the Medal of Honor franchise began to dwindle upon the release of highly competitive shooters built off of the 'foundations' that Medal of Honor defined. With the release of the Modern Warfare equivalent titles in the mid 2000's many gamers who had been the primary audience for Medal of Honor series took note as gaming media sources such as Gamespy and IGN began to comment on the death of the "World War Two Shooter" given the fact that so many titles had then been released covering the period and alot of titles began to feel repetitve on previous experiences. |

The Medal of Honor series made a return to the frontline gaming industry with the release of "Medal Of Honor" in 2011, the studios take on the hugely popular market of the Modern Warfare style shooter. Given the marketshare that was taken by Call of Duty (and arguably the actual content of the game)Medal of Honor failed to raise the revenue the developers had hoped and Electronic Arts have since appeared to place more of their in house attention on the Battlefield series in an attempt to distance themselves from the format that Medal of Honour held. |
