Luisão , real name Anderson Luis da Silva , (born february 13, 1981 in Amparo) is a football (soccer) player from Brazil. He plays central defender with SL Benfica and the Brazilian national team.

An imposing Brazilian defender, Luisão has quickly become an integral part of the SL Benfica side, with his towering height likely to negate any opponents' aerial prowess and providing trouble whenever he ventures forward.

National team Firmly established in the Brazil starting lineup, Luisão capped a meteoric international rise with a goal against Argentina in the 2004 Copa América final. He has since played a key role in Carlos Alberto Parreira's side's successful 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and looks set to make a huge impact in Germany.

Club After starting his career at São Paulo side EC Juventude, Luisão moved to league rivals SE Cruzeiro in 2000. He spent three seasons in Belo Horizonte, picking up two Sul-Minas Cups, a couple of Minas Gerais championship titles and in 2003, he gained the second Brazilian Cup of his career - after also lifting one with Juventude.

2003: Crossed the Atlantic to join Benfica during the summer and was instrumental as the side ended second. He did not have to wait long to resume his love affair with silverware though as the Lisbon side clinched the Portuguese Cup with a win against FC Porto.
