Bilderberg list

The link to YouTube was an obvious copyright violation as well as not being evidence that Obama actually attended the Bilderberg meeting. Please don't restore it. Dougweller (talk) 15:32, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

It looked like a bot revert of a legitimate edit. Not sure it is an obvious copyright violation as it is arguably fair use, i.e. used for political commentary, no economic impact as CNN didn't post a transcript or record of the video, etc. But I didn't listen to more than the first 15 seconds to make sure it wasn't some rant or self promotion etc. --Trödel 18:18, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
We don't recognise 'fair use' in that way though, although I understand why you are saying that. We're a lot stricter. And that article gets a lot of attempts to use sources that violate BLP. No problem though. Dougweller (talk) 02:38, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
While I agree that including the video as an embedded video would not be consistent with Misplaced Pages's fair use policy. Linking to a 3rd party website that claims a fair use exception as a reference to provide verifiability is not inconsistent with WP:ELNEVER nor is it a contributory infringement. Now, I haven't and don't plan to listen to this video to decide if it is a violation, I think it is unwise to eliminate a source of verifiability because the copyright holder has elected to not provide access to the information. In fact secondary sources will often include/quote copyright material for which they don't have explicit permission from the copyright holder to use. If we required that every source linked to as a reliable source to prove that they had a fair use exception to all copyrighted material we would have to remove many reliable sources. --Trödel 03:35, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Changes in Area Leadership for August 2011.

The Church News released on Friday a list of area leaderhip assignments that will be effective on August 1, 2011. The details and a link to the changes are on the List of general authorities talk page. I know I would appreciate it if you could put together a subpage like you've done in years past. Please note that in the link I posted, the PDF file accompanying the article does not match the article. The accurate changes are in the article itself. Thanks for taking care of this for us again. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 01:48, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

I went ahead and copied the information from the subpage onto the actual page. If you could take care of merging the page histories and getting rid of the subpage, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for all you do. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 14:12, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Record table

Look at all the other teams pages - the record table doesn't show W/L/T stats. It shows the final finishing position for each competition in which the team participates, and gets added at the beginning of the year. I'm currently in the process of adding W/L/T tables for each MLS team, and will continue on further down the pyramid as I go (look at the Year-by-Year section of Los Angeles Galaxy, for example) - but Orlando doesn't need one of those those yet, because the WLT table usually only goes in at the end of the year when the stats are set, not during it.

Also, merging the tables for Orlando and Austin is a bad idea. For all intents and purposes, they are completely separate legal entities, even though there is some overlap between players and front office people. JonBroxton (talk) 17:46, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Area Seventies page: Help needed

I have begun updating the area seventies page. As I explained on the talk page, I don't have time to do it all at once. So I started by updating the 3rd Quorum of the Seventy. The quorum is updated accurately, but I have some cite errors that I can't get rid of. To do so is outside my area of WP expertise. Please help me fix this if you can. If you could help with the update too, that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 17:57, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I think I fixed the issues with the 3rd quorum. I am more of a Wikignome lately becuase of time constraints but I'll see if I can find some time this weekend to see what I could do to help. --Trödel 02:32, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing that. I updated the 4th Quorum but ran into another problem. Carlos Solis, sustained a year ago, had not been added to the page, so I added him, but for some reason WP linked the name Carlos Solis to a fictional character from a soap opera. I don't know how to fix that. Please help me if you can. Thanks. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 19:12, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
I fixed this - the template that creates the rows has logic that if a page exists with the same name as the person it will automatically link it. To make it not automatically link you just add "link=no". If the link to that person is not just their first and last name like John Taylor (Mormon) then you would add "link=John Taylor (Mormon)" and it would override the automatic link and produce text that looks like this John Taylor, but link it to the correct disambiguation page. --Trödel 03:36, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your continued help with this page. I have yet another question. Elder Wenceslad H. Svec was sustained to the 7th Quorum of the Seventy in October, but he hadn't been added to the area seventies page. I haven't been able to find a source to verify this that also provides his age and location. If you could help me look for such a source, I'd appreciate it. After we fix the problem with Elder Svec's listing, only one more quorum to go! YAHOO! Thanks. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 23:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
YW, I couldn't find a reference for Svec - we'll probably need to check the Church Almanac published by the Deseret News every other year. --Trödel 00:54, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Found a source for Elder Svec's calling in the Church News archives today and sourced it. The problem is, for some reason, Elder Svec still is not showing up in the actual page. I don't know what I've done or how to fix it. I'll take another look at it, but I'd really appreciate your help with this. Btw, what does "YW" mean? Also, the Church Almanac is published every year. Under the area seventies, it lists them alphabetically by area. That's how I knew Elder Svec needed to be entered into the page. Please help me fix this problem if you can. Thanks. One more quorum to go! --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 13:06, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Just found the reason for the problem with Elder Svec's listing. Fixed it myself. So the 7th Quorum is updated now. One more to go! Thanks. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 13:16, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Sorry I missed your notes but glad you found the issue. --Trödel 03:22, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, I updated the 8th quorum yesterday. No problems there. But I did run into another interesting issue. For some reason, the changes I made aren't showing up on the revision history. If I click on what the history page lists as its latest revision, I can see the other changes I made still show up on the page itself, but for some reason it's not showing up on the revision history. Please help me if you can. Thanks. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 13:08, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Just took another look at the revision history. For some reason, the changes show up just fine now. How weird. Thanks for all your help. Next project: the General Authorities subpage. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 13:14, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Page userfied

I moved Talk:List of general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints/August 2011 to List of general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints/August 2011. In my opinion it was obvious that said talkpage was actually a userdraft. If you disagree with me, please write me on my talkpage. Debresser (talk) 00:28, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Debresser

I don't like this user's attitude or his handling of the situation, and I didn't mind telling him/her so. Judging from what you wrote on his/her talk page, you aren't very happy about it either. What can be done about this? I don't like someone going over our heads and making this change without giving us the chance to have input about it first. I don't neccessarily object to the page being moved, I just wish we had been consulted about it first. This user appears (from what I have read on his/her talk page) to enjoy making unilateral decisions about page content and WP policy. He/She has been warned about that in the past. And now he/she is at it again. He/she thinks I'm making too much out of the situation. What do you think? Post your reply on my talk page, if you would. Thanks, and keep up the great work. --Jgstokes-We can disagree without being disagreeable (talk) 05:27, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

'Tain't the same

Everything about Bob Jones University that's cited from Daniel Turner's book could be cited to another source. It's just a matter of convenience to cite something that's more easily available. The same's not true of Ugo Perego's research. His research is his alone, and except for the Journal of Mormon History article, it's invisible outside partisan Mormon publications. In any case, you know as well as I do that you're not supposed to edit articles like that to make a point.--John Foxe (talk) 23:02, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

The genetics laboratory is well respected and often quoted in the media and has made other notable identifications. I hope you can see that requiring that sources affiliations be identified about undisputed information is not necessary. --Trödel 00:03, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

User:Trödel/Sandbox4

I hope you don't mind. Normally I wouldn't mess with someones Sandboxes. However, you and I seem to be attempting to do the same thing with the images on that page, so I thought you wouldn't mind. If you do, please please forgive me and I will put everything back.

I see no reason to have two pages, one alphabetized (your page) and the other in no particular order (WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Temples/Pictures). Since more then yourself (me) seems to be using your sandbox this should really be a WikiProject page so that everyone can edit it without stepping on your userpage toes. However, your format is the best, so I copied it direct to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Temples/Pictures--ARTEST4ECHO (/contribs) 17:38, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for understanding and explaining the original reason for the two.--ARTEST4ECHO (/contribs) 13:44, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

proposal to rename

As one of the biggest editors to the LDS Temple templates and the creator of Template:LDS Temple/White Plains New York Temple I thought it only prudent to let you know I have opened a proposal to rename Template:LDS Temple/White Plains New York TempleTemplate:LDS Temple/Harrison New York Temple.

Go to Template talk:LDS Temple/White Plains New York Temple is you wish to input.--ARTEST4ECHO (/contribs) 13:43, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

How to update Template:POTD protected?

Hi Trödel. I noticed that you updated Template:POTD protected/2011-09-24 so that the Main page became up-to-date - good work. Could you tell the procedure (I am an admin) so I can update the POTD in the future. I am not sure if I need to subst or what to do.--Commander Keane (talk) 05:50, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Fortaleza Brazil Temple

You deleted Template:LDS Temple/Fortaleza Brazil Temple as a "unneeded redirect - no pages link here". The problem is the "edit data" link in the infobox for the Fortaleza Brazil Temple links to that template not to where it gets it's data from.--ARTEST4ECHO (/contribs) 21:45, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

That was a mistake - I restored the page - I had meant to delete {{LDS Temple/Fortaleza Brazil}} --Trödel 21:51, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
OK, I just didn't understand at all what was going on. I'm not even sure where the data was coming from.--ARTEST4ECHO (/contribs) 21:52, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
This is confusing to me - didn't you just setup the Biography templates and instructions to mimic what is happening with the temples? --Trödel 22:45, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Re: Color chart

No reason for thanx. Using FireFox, I had been unaware either, until I was told and had to fix a lot of backgrounds... Your color chart gives a good overview and is linked from a help page in German Misplaced Pages, therefore I altered your chart. -- sarang사랑 22:18, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Trödel,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Echigo mole

You have just restored the edits of a long term banned wikistalker. Please look at the SPI archives of the page above and in particular look at the four recently indefinitely blocked sockpuppet accounts above. They were indefinitely blocked for making trolling edits similar to those you have just restored on your own page, The previous edits were to arbcom pages. At present you are acting as a proxy for a serial wikistalker, and that is not advisable for an administrator. Please be more careful in the future. Yes, by all means look at the SPI, where you will discover that there is no ban on Echigo Mole (or indeed, any of the people Mathsci accuses on his sockpuppet's attack page). 94.197.179.59 (talk) 22:08, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
