Welcome!
Kirksville
Hi Sector. Had a look, and I agree those statements are problematic -- it might or might not qualify as POV (I think it's accurate, but then, I'm one of those liberals!) But it's unsourced -- and I don't think we're going to find a commentator on local politics to link it to. It should go. DavidOaks (talk) 21:36, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Forrest/Forest
Yup, those are WP:RS -- but then, so are the state parks website and the "visit Kirksville" website. I'm with you, I think it's clear the latter two have made a mistake (and an easy one to fall into, absolutely). I think the article should reflect the fact that the correct spelling is "Forrest," explain the origin and note that the error is promulgated at a couple of otherwise good websites. Agree? DavidOaks (talk) 17:15, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Re Pat on the back
Thanks for the "Pat on the back". I just thought I would let you know that I hold nothing against you for being from Missouri (haha), and you can do any constructive editing in Iowa that you want. I patrol all Iowa communities and appreciated your cleanup and reference edit to Ottumwa, Iowa. It alerted me to a article that needed reorganization. Just a few links that may help you. Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline is very helpful concerning cities. An expansion to that link I am currently working on is at Misplaced Pages :WikiProject Iowa/Communities/Priorities. You may be interested in Misplaced Pages :WikiProject Iowa/Communities, and you are welcome to join. Also another editor has been working on a "How to upload images for dummies" (my title) at User:Sbmeirow/HowToUploadPhotosToWikipedia. Be aware that both of these (mine and Sbmeirow) are works in progress. Again thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey Sector, Thanks for looking at this, I think I'm going to list it for WP:AfD because I don't think it falls under any speedy deletion criteria - (the article has existed since 2006) Outback the koala (talk) 05:32, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Appreciation
As I build lists like List of United States Representatives from Missouri, I look at every page, briefly; some take awhile for me to figure out what I need, and I catch errors and fix them in passing; most are minor, some even trivial, but trying to help as I go. Thanks. Dru of Id (talk) 05:48, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
KTVO
I entered the zip codes for Kirksville and Ottumwa on zap2it.com and went by those listings. Obviously if that is out of date then I wouldn't have the right info. I will look again to see if there are changes. Strafidlo (talk) 19:12, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Legal action
Sector, I appreciate your efforts to keep the place clean, but this was unnecessary and incorrect. We don't take legal action against vandals; if needs be, they or their IP addresses are blocked. There is a set of standard warnings available at Misplaced Pages:Template messages/User talk namespace, and they are also accessible via Twinkle. Trying to scare users is probably counterproductive, but factual information about their actions and the consequences are appreciated. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 18:00, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah I know dude. I was trying to hopefully scare the little jerk into stopping. All the other warnings seemed to have no effect on them. The IP is at one of the public schools in Chillicothe, Mo. Kids! Waddaya gonna do? Can't tolerate'em, can't eat'em (despite Hansel & Gretel) lol. Sector001 (talk) 18:10, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Rebecca McClanahan
Sorry I was less than clear in my citation. The comment section contains a post from "AWY" with that statement, and multiple assertions of his identity. I understand your removal (since my citation was less than clear). I notice that there is a contributor here at wikipedia who is likely Mr. Young (User: AWY) who might be able to further confirm his statements. No attempt to spin the story one way or the other (as you'll note the reference to McClanahan's assertion that Wyatt was behind the phone calls, which were later shown to be from MoGOP) but merely to capture the whole story.
I'll gladly take your advice on how to best proceed with a NPOV discussion of the event that includes all the facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.134.208.112 (talk) 19:16, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Jay Houghton
On 3 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jay Houghton, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Jay Houghton, a member of the Missouri House of Representatives, had an uncle, two great-uncles, and a great-great-grandfather who also served as representatives? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hi Gamaliel. Thanks for your note to User talk:Blackopsmo. Were you alerted to the arbitration request I posted on the matter over at Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons/noticeboard? I've never had to ask for help with a situation like this before and not sure I even asked in the right place. If you can take a look at the history of the dispute and offer an opinion I'll gladly abide by whatever ruling you make. My goal is simply accuracy and "the truth", warts and all. Its the old journalist in me I guess lol. Thanks again and have a great Wiki kind of day! Sector001 (talk) 07:22, 18 May 2011 (UTC) P.S. LOVE the pic at top of your user page. I'm a long-time radio guy and actually used an old desktop mic similar that early in my career.
- I don't really think this is a policy matter (not yet, anyway), so I don't think there's a ruling to be made. The best way to bring this to a close is to encourage Blackopsmo to actually identify his objection and then it can be dealt with appropriately. How to do that, I dunno? Just keep reverting him, I guess. Also, I'm jealous, I love those old style mikes. I have no need for a microphone but I'm thinking of buying one on ebay for my desk anyway. REPLY to Pehazet -- I am referring to Moritz Schlick. The history of the Wiki indicated you added "was" to the entry inside the brackets. I checked the past edits. Not sure what you're referring to. The only thing I edited was referring "Chinese" to "Simplified Chinese" instead (which it is). If presenting the correct detail is unacceptable to Misplaced Pages, then I don't know what is the acceptable. Perhaps you'd like to elaborate on what you meant by "unacceptable" behavior. And perhaps next time when you decide to send others a msg on "unacceptable" behavior, you'd add more details so that people know what exactly you're talking about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.29.89.253 (talk) 03:26, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Missouri 2012 Senate Race
Well, my argument is that this is becoming somewhat standard if you look at pages for other races. Also, look at the news coming out this week and you will notice that sometimes candidates who have declined to run previously change their minds and run, as is the case with Pete Hoekstra of Michigan. Even if the candidate is not running the polls still hold value. With increased polling data you can also get a sense of what the public opinion is towards the incumbent, similar to a poll of the incumbent versus a generic Republican, so you statement that these are now irrelevant is not exactly true. I'm not sure how this is a big issue in the first place as they are placed in a collapsible window and not cluttering up the page. If you have further points that you would like to discuss please write on my talk page or the discussion section of the page in question. 208.103.137.221 (talk) 22:28, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Other aspects of why those types of polls still hold relevance include providing reasoning for why a particular candidate may have started a campaign only to drop it later as occasionally happens with those that poll worse than the leading candidate. So really, these polls can show the progression of the race. I understand your point that these aren't the people currently in the running, but I thought that I should point out some reasons they are still valuable. 208.103.137.221 (talk) 23:37, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Mary Claybaugh Walton and "The Waltons" TV show
Sector001, I'm writing in response to your revision of my addendum of a note about the lineage of Bart Giamatti to "The Waltons" page: What factors determine what turns up on on TV? How does it happen that Earl Hamner's novels and stories about a fictional family called the "Spencers" gets retitled "The Waltons" on CBS? Is it coincidence that a show as popular as "The Waltons" happens in the same decade as the election of the son of Mary Claybaugh Walton to the presidency of Yale, the nation's 3rd oldest college, and the election of a US president, the 39th, whose middle name is Earl, Jimmy Carter? These are questions that billions of Misplaced Pages readers and millions of fans of "The Waltons"--the people most likely to read the Misplaced Pages article about it--are vitally interested in, and yet you, a Misplaced Pages editor, not only can't answer them but won't even ASK them. I can answer them, and I'm a Misplaced Pages editor, too. I reckon it's time for you to ask me questions, son, or go back to your history class at Boatwright U.Richard Barnette "Dickie" Bloom 18:28, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- Ohhhhkay there Skippy. Ya might try loosening your little tinfoil hat that keeps the aliens from mind-controlling you. Obviously you missed my point. That particular Wiki (Waltons) is for information pertaining or related to the show. Someone in real life named "Walton" simply doesn't qualify, else we'd be including minutia about Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, former NBA star Bill Walton, etc. If you want to create a Wiki for all your conspiracy theories then be my friggin' guest. But keep that stuff out of Wiki for The Waltons tv show. I'll revert it every time and take it to an Admin for disciplinary action if I have to. Sector001 (talk) 20:31, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Vandalization of Mark Lodes (by digital assassination)
I exist. I am actually running for U.S. Senate. Todd Akin staffers have repeatedly deleted me from the list of likely candidates on his wiki page, and they have gone so far as to delete my wiki page. The only ones pulling dirty tricks are Todd Akin's staffers. This is a fact. I have screenshots of the events, and furthermore, deleting me from the internet by digital assassination is the dirtiest of dirty tricks. I am filing a harassment suit against Mr. Akin and his staffers presently. It would appear that you have painted me as some kind of "vandal" which I most certainly am not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkLodes (talk • contribs) 03:54, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Sectors reply to Mark: There are several factual errors in your reply. 1) Your self-created Wiki was deleted by an administrator for failure to follow accepted guidlines and proper references for biographies of living persons, not by any supporters of Mr. Akin. Things have to be independently verifiable by a reliable source, not just your "say so". 2) I have no proof of the motives of the unregistered IP (173.21.183.11) that was involved in deleting your name from the Todd Akin Wiki. I however also deleted your name on multiple occassions NOT because I am in any way a staffer or supporter of Mr. Akin, but because once again the unregistered IP that added it did not abide by the Misplaced Pages guidlines for properly referencing information. Other Misplaced Pages editors have done the same and for the same reason. You will note on the Wiki United States Senate election in Missouri, 2012 that once you finally complied with an independent reliable source (the St. Louis radio interview) I have reverted the others who deleted your name and issued a strong caution to IP user 173.19.130.136 about their unacceptable deleting behavior. I am neutral, a referee if you will, and only ensuring that the Misplaced Pages rules are followed. 3) You seem to have misread my initial request for help. I was not "painting you as some kind of vandal". I was asking for your help in stopping the unregistered IP (97.91.181.5) from vandalizing....that is UNLESS you freely admit to being one and the same as that IP. In conclusion, before making assumptions and accusations I strongly urge you to fully read and comprehend Misplaced Pages polices on verifiable, independent references/sources for all articles. Misplaced Pages has rules, and if you wish to participate you must abide by them. Sector001 (talk) 05:24, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- P.S. If you can provide the aforementioned independent, reliable, biography sources (i.e. news articles) I would be glad to assist you in creating a Wiki entry for you that does "pass muster" with our rules...especially if you should win the primary and general election. I have created/edited/and patrol for vandalism, dozens of Wikis for Missouri politicians both Democrats and Republicans.

Rebuttal
Oh, that is rich, YOU accusing me of trying to spin an article. Actually, any rational human would know I was in fact trying to REMOVE your spin. Media Matters hardly qualifies as an objective journalistic endeavor and is considered legitimate mainly by partisan propagandists only.
I accuse you of carrying out your own personal partisan propaganda war by infiltrating the bios of select FOX News personalities who you deem fit for attack and slander via nonobjective reference sources. Consider your "propaganda insert" safe. Rational observers noting your source will see clearly through your subterfuge. Millerman31564 (talk) 14:46, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

HOWEVER, unlike you, when it comes to Misplaced Pages I leave my politics out of it. Study up on WP:NPOV sometime. I and other responsible editors are striving for "fair and balanced". If you have rebuttal to the Media Matters story then post it and back it up with proper reference. Just blanking the info out is not acceptable Misplaced Pages policy. Re:United States Senate election in Missouri, 2012
Really, you're critizicng me for being from Indiana yet editing a Missouri article? I am interested in all the Senate elections, and I have removed the irrelevant declined candidates from many other articles as well. If you want to keep them up until filing officially begins, fine, but I hope to see the section gone then. It's just that if someone is not runing, it's pretty damn obvious that they aren't running. They do not need to be included. If it was truly assumed, not simply widely speculated, that someone would run, but decided not to, or else said they would but changed their mind, then it could make sense. But when a local politician, under no assumption that they would run, states prompted or unprompted that they decline, it is not warranted to include them. The exception proves the rule, and when a person is not running, it would only make sense that his absense from the 'Running' section implies the same. Reywas92 19:20, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well evidently many other Misplaced Pages political editors disagree with you, Reywas92. Here are a few examples created by others that do consider it noteworthy to include them: United States Senate election in Texas, 2012, United States Senate election in California, 2012, United States Senate election in Minnesota, 2012, United States House of Representatives elections in Pennsylvania, 2012. ALL of those list or make mention of the declining candidates. This seems to be a common format & style for all similar articles. But hey, I suppose you're the only one correct and the rest of us are wrong, huh? If this is such a pet peeve of yours I suggest you kick it upstairs to a Misplaced Pages Admin. or put it before the community as a whole for a vote or something. Pawn Stars: "Bear-ly There"
Thanks for the assist, Sector. The source for the 1870 date is the episode itself, since that's where I got it from. Now if the company was under a different name by 1870 (Only one of the three sources cited for this point in the Volcanic Arms article is an online one that allows quick verification, and that one doesn't seem to mention that particular fact at all), then it would seem that one of two possibilities is the case here: They got the year wrong, as you have surmised, or, I would imagine, the year was correct, but they simply forgot or got wrong the company's name and/or the historical detail about its reorganization. Now me, I'd imagine it's the latter, and if I'm right, I'd think that it'd be better to restore the 1870 year, and simply add a note in the article about the name being different by then. Or perhaps we should simply stick to relating the info that the episode gave, and include a note indicating that one of the two pieces of info is wrong, and hope that doing so doesn't violate WP:SYNTH? Or are you really, really positive that the year is wrong, and the company name they used correct? Do you recall if the company name was seen/shown engraved on the gun? If so, then maybe that would bolster your theory that they got the year wrong. Perhaps we'll re-watch the episode as soon as they post it on History.com and we'll see what to do then? - I just watched that particular episode about 2hrs ago and they absolutely called the gun the Volcanic and show mainstay Rick Harrison then went on to explain about the company being founded by the same gentlemen who founded Smith & Wesson firearms. It was also accompanied by one of those "pop up" boxes that Pawn Stars uses to further explain the history of the article being pawned. It was definitely a Volcanic, and indeed appeared practically identical to the 1855/57 model pictured on the Misplaced Pages article for Volcanic Repeating Firearms. Volcanic was definitely out of business, or rather as I explained earlier had undergone name changes, by 1870. Oliver Winchester basically took over the company and named their products after himself. Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson went on to form their own famous self-named firearms company. - Did the episode indeed mention the year 1870, or was that an error on my part? Nightscream (talk) 08:59, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Buck Compton
Area51,
About Buck Compton: You added that he was named an "All-American".
Was that in baseball or football? He played both.
Also, can you please use the "name=" command in references. For more information see:
Thanks.

leave my page alone, please.
i am the real person who has been writing and editing my site. please leave it alone. you have no idea what you are doing and i am the only one with knowledge of myself from back in the day. i think that is verification enough. thank you, BC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itismesoleavemypagealone (talk • contribs) 21:02, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
Reply -- Even if you are claiming to be Brandon Cruz there is no proof to substantiate it. I could claim to Bill Bixby, John Wayne or Santa Claus for that matter. Regardless, you need to realize that it is not your site, it is Misplaced Pages's article on Brandon Cruz. Misplaced Pages has steadfast rules that must be followed if you wish to participate -- either under your current username or an anon. IP. I have repeatedly explained that information you added was unsourced. Even if you were Brandon Cruz you would need an independent, verifiable source -- usually something from a media outlet -- to verify it. Personal experience and/or original research does not qualify. The information you have added does not match what has been reported in other reliable independent sources. Before any further editing you really need to read and comprehend the Misplaced Pages rules of conduct. If you continue this edit warring I will be forced to ask an administrator to block your account and/or IP. Sector001 (talk) 21:30, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
