:Good point. I will watch that in the future. Thanks! So far, I have never had the occasion to run any sort of automated or semi-automated tool on Misplaced Pages. The few times I have proposed something like that have either ended with the idea being rejected and me agreeing that it wasn't as good an idea as I first thought, or with someone else writing and running the tool. --] (]) 08:59, 22 May 2012 (UTC) | :Good point. ::Tony1, I just saw the conversation you are having on ]. For what it is worth, here is my opinion. You are making some quite reasonable points, and in response you are getting comments like "''the argument you are proposing, balloons to absudity quite quickly. I see no substance here to debate; the entire premise is valueless.''" and "''I see no logic in what you propose to debate. Please show some logical merit in the topic that makes it sensible to debate it.''" | |||
::Certainly your argument does ''not'' balloon to absurdity and your entire premise is ''not'' valueless. You are making a perfectly reasonable argument. This user has already been blocked twice for "persistent, highly confrontational, disruptive editing" and "repeated personal attacks and quick and consistent disregard for civility in the face of conflict", and it looks like he intends to continue that pattern of behavior. Because of this pattern of behavior (and because I think this really is an interesting style question that MOS has never really discussed) I brought it up on MOS Talk. Once there is a consensus there we can simply refer to the MOS Register rather than playing ] on multiple talk pages. --] (]) 09:24, 22 May 2012 (UTC) |

"Misplaced Pages's articles are no place for strong views. Or rather, we feel about strong views the way that a natural history museum feels about tigers. We admire them and want our visitors to see how fierce and clever they are, so we stuff them and mount them for close inspection. We put up all sorts of carefully worded signs to get people to appreciate them as much as we do. But however much we adore tigers, a live tiger loose in the museum is seen as an urgent problem." --WP:TIGER

Chess notation
Guy, were you referring to running a bot over the articles that include chess notation? Better to refer to it as a script, especially as human scrutiny was built into your proprosal. I'd be delighted to have such a script, but there needs to be consensus first, I guess. That debate has a while to run. Tony (talk) 08:48, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Good point. I will watch that in the future. Thanks! So far, I have never had the occasion to run any sort of automated or semi-automated tool on Misplaced Pages. - Tony1, I just saw the conversation you are having on Talk:Morphy versus the Duke of Brunswick and Count Isouard. For what it is worth, here is my opinion. You are making some quite reasonable points, and in response you are getting comments like "the argument you are proposing, balloons to absudity quite quickly. I see no substance here to debate; the entire premise is valueless." and "I see no logic in what you propose to debate. - Certainly your argument does not balloon to absurdity and your entire premise is not valueless. Once there is a consensus there we can simply refer to the MOS Register rather than playing Whac-a-mole on multiple talk pages. --Guy Macon (talk) 09:24, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
