Stephanie Adams (b. July 24, 1970, Orange, New Jersey) is an American model, notable as the November, 1992 Playboy Playmate. Adams, the first Playmate to come out as a lesbian, is also an advocate on LGBT issues and a spirituality author.

Early life and modeling career

Adams, who claims to be the direct descendant of U.S. presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, was raised from birth by her aunts, who were former models. After she graduated high school at the age of 16, her aunts helped her begin her modeling career. Adams was signed first to agency Wilhelmina Models while completing college, and then to the Elite modeling agency by John Casablancas.

Adams did photo shoots for companies such as Seventeen and Miss Clairol, and then was chosen as the November, 1992 Playboy playmate of the month after finally accepting their offer to pose nude. Adams was dating Casablancas around this time, and he appeared in one of the photos in her pictorial. Adams also appeared in numerous Playboy videos.

Personal life

After dating Casablancas, Adams married an Italian investment banker, whom she subsequently divorced. She was then involved with several prominent New York City men before becoming the first and only Playboy Playmate to come out publicly as a lesbian.

Adams was in a relationship for some time with a woman named Denise Taormina, and briefly dated comedian Marga Gomez and rock star Joan Jett. Adams was later involved with a woman named Barbara Assisi who appeared on the cover of various publications with her including her book entitled Empress. Adams has often said of her romantic life that she is a "Playboy trapped in a Playmate's body." Since then, Adams has been dating a woman who works for the NYPD and prefers to keep their love life private.

Spiritual writing and LGBT advocacy

Following the death of her aunt from breast cancer, Adams quit full-time modeling, though she has continued to appear on occasional magazine covers, and to make celebrity appearances for Playboy and at other events.

Adams has since written a series of sixteen books on astrology, new age, spirituality and metaphysics, and established GODDESSY.com, GODDESSY.com, a spiritual website which also serves as a celebrity press site for Adams. She has also become a spokesperson and advocate in the LGBT community, participating in several Gay Pride Days in New York City, and speaking to organizations such as Out Professionals and Women's Alliance.
