Frank Henry Cooney (December 31, 1872, Norwood, Ontario – December 15, 1935) was the ninth Governor of Montana from 1933-35.
Biography
Cooney was married to Emma May Poindexter Cooney and had two children, Virginia E. Cooney Dunphy and Gage Rodman Cooney.He is credited for reforming the state liquor laws and establishing a water conservation program.
Career
Cooney, a businessman, was public administrator for Silver Bow County, Montana from 1898-1900. He was elected lieutenant governor in 1932. In 1933, he replaced Governor John Edward Erickson, who left office to become a United States Senator.
Death
Cooney died in office in 1935 of heart failure. He is buried in Saint Mary Cemetery, Missoula, Missoula Coounty, Montana USA.
