Dave Armstrong (born 1958) is a Catholic apologist, blogger, and author. He converted to Roman Catholicism from evangelical Protestantism in 1991.
Biography
Born on July 30, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. Raised as Methodist, Armstrong converted to non-denominational evangelicalism in 1977, and then to Catholicism in 1990. He was received into the Catholic Church on February 8, 1991 by Father John Hardon, SJ. He married Judy Kozora on October 6, 1984: they have three sons and a daughter and live in Melvindale: a suburb of Detroit. She returned to the Church on the same day Armstrong was received.
His conversion came largely as a result of reading Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman's Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine in 1990. Armstrong soon started working on apologetic treatises in order to explain Catholic doctrine to his friends. These eventually evolved into his first book, A Biblical Defense of Catholicism, .
Armstrong was first published in 1993, in The Catholic Answer, and his conversion story was one of eleven in Patrick Madrid's Surprised by Truth: a very popular book that has sold some 300,000 copies since 1994. He began his popular website, "Biblical Evidence for Catholicism," in February 1997 and it quickly became established in the Catholic Internet world as a "one-stop" apologetics resource; capturing the "Catholic Website of the Year" award from Envoy Magazine in 1998. It received many hundreds of thousands of visitors up till February 2004, when he began a blog. The latter has received over two million visitors since that time (according to the statistics of Site Meter).
Starting in 2003, Armstrong's books began to be published (at first by Our Sunday Visitor, and then Sophia Institute Press and other publishers). He now has eighteen "officially published" titles (five of them bestsellers in the relatively small niche market of Catholic apologetics), and has also appeared on various talk shows on nationally syndicated Catholic radio some twenty times through the years, including twice on Catholic Answers Live.
