The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is an upcoming 2013 American science-fiction dystopian thriller/action-adventure film based on Suzanne Collins' novel Catching Fire, the second installment in The Hunger Games trilogy. The sequel to the 2012 film The Hunger Games, it is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2013. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, with a screenplay from Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt. Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen, with Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, and Willow Shields also reprising their roles.

Plot

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a Victor's Tour of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that will change Panem forever.

Casting

In July 2012, it was announced that Jena Malone would portray Johanna Mason, and that Philip Seymour Hoffman would portray Plutarch Heavensbee. Following this up, in August 2012, it was released that Lynn Cohen would be cast as Mags, Alan Ritchson was cast as Gloss. Sam Claflin was officially cast as Finnick Odair on August 22, 2012. Jeffrey Wright was cast as Beetee on September 7, 2012.

Filming

Production officially began on September 10, 2012 with shooting set to conclude in December 2012. Shooting will first take place in and around metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia and now it has moved to Hawaii. In October 2012, composer James Newton Howard confirmed that he will return to score the film. In an interview with MTV, Josh Hutcherson confirmed scenes in the film will use IMAX cameras by stating, "they're shooting, I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX".

Sequels

Lionsgate announced that they will officially split the third installment of the series, Mockingjay, into two films, with Part 1 hitting theaters on November 21, 2014, and Part 2 on November 20, 2015. On November 1, 2012, it was confirmed that Francis Lawrence will be back to direct the two final movies.
