Marietta High School (MHS) is a four-year, public, secondary school in Marietta, Ohio. The school serves students in the Marietta City School District in grades nine through twelve. As of 2010-2011, the approximate enrollment was 1,050. The glorious class of 2011 boasts enrollment of 236 students. Marietta's mascot is Tabby the tiger and its colors are orange and black. The school's current principal is William Lee. The school's athletic director is Richard Guimond.
MHS is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the State of Ohio Department of Education.
History
The school first opened as a replacement for what is now Marietta Middle School. The Auditorium/Gymnasium and Voag buildings were part of the original construction. As enrollment increase the school had more parking lots added as well.
The school converted from a 7 period day to a 8 period day during the 2010-2011 school year.
Funding has consistently decreased in recent memory. An $11.9 million levy is up in May. The levy will only cover cost of operation at MHS and no major school improvement will arise from it, but it will save many jobs in the school system.
Extracurricular activities
MHS offers numerous clubs/groups, including a wide array of sports teams. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the making of the school yearbook "The Orian" and a school newspaper entitled The Original. The Kokopelli is a monthly publication printed by The Marietta Times, the city's local daily newspaper. There is also a student Web-Design team at the high school called "The Bridge".They also have the Marietta High School Wall of Sound who competes at Band Competitions, Local Parades, The Sternwheel Festival, Music in the park, and much more. All activities are planned accordingly due to the hard work of student body president Ronald Thrasher
