Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Misplaced Pages:
- The Five Pillars of Misplaced Pages
- How to edit a page
- Editing tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
Please bear these points in mind while editing Misplaced Pages:
- Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
- Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Misplaced Pages policy.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as: copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such unreasonable information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, and will result in your account being blocked.
The Misplaced Pages Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Misplaced Pages. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! -- LAX 02:42, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Hateful Pictures
Hello, hope this finds you well.
According to Misplaced Pages Guidelines,
There is broad agreement that you may not include in your user space material that is likely to bring the project into disrepute, or which is likely to give widespread offense. Misplaced Pages is not a soapbox is usually interpreted as applying to user space as well as the encyclopedia itself. You do have more latitude in user space than elsewhere, but remember: don't be a dick about it. Extremely offensive material may be removed on sight by any editor.-WP:USER
The pictures at the top of your user page could easily be construed as hate mongering . I would strongly suggest that you remove them, as Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, not a place to spread your beliefs, and especially not to spread purposeless messages of hate. If you do not remove them, there is a very good chance that a case will be brought against you at the administrators noticeboard, either by me or someone else. This is not a threat, merely a warning.
Have a wonderful rest of weekend and overall holiday season. l'Aquatique 05:07, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and I also fail to see how merely being homosexual qualifies one for the LGBT Barnstar? l'Aquatique 05:16, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. You should be opposed to gay marriage because you love America, not because you hate gay people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.234.217.146 (talk) 00:12, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Use of talk pages
Please do not use talk pages such as Talk:Homosexuality for general discussion of the topic. They are for discussion related to improving the article. They are not to be used as a forum or chat room. See here for more information. Thank you. Rivertorch (talk) 07:17, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Brunettes userbox
I just thought I'd let you know that Krimpet (talk · contribs) took it on herself to delete the brunettes userbox you were using. This follows other subjects about women she has chosen to take on herself whether or not they should be on Misplaced Pages the past two weeks, including starting an "edit war" on the DYK section of the main page. Thought you might want to know.--King Bedford I 23:29, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation
Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.
We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive
WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April. |

Misplaced Pages Campus Ambassadors wanted in Troy, Alabama
Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're a member of WikiProject Alabama. The Misplaced Pages Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Misplaced Pages assignments at Troy University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Misplaced Pages-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Misplaced Pages skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
I know Alabama is a big state, but if you happen to live near Troy and you are interested in being a Misplaced Pages Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from Troy who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Survey
Hi The4325!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Misplaced Pages (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Misplaced Pages! Thank you!
