The 2012 Delhi bus rape case refers to the incident where a 23 year old physiotherapy student was gang raped in Delhi. The incident sparked widespread protests and dissent across the country. The six men accused were arrested in Delhi,Bihar and Rajasthan. The accused were to be charged with an Attempt to murder. It was later announced that the victims condition was deteriorating. She was traveling with a male friend who was attacked and thrown out of the bus. On Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit's suggestion, five fast track courts were approved to try rape cases.

Incident

On 20 decemeber 2012 a 23 year old girl was gang-raped in a private moving bus.The incident took place Sunday night.Girl and her male friend, who had boarded the chartered bus with tinted glass windows from Munirka in south Delhi around 9.45pm to Palam, after the two resisted before they were dumped on the road side near Mahipalpur flyover, police said on Sunday. Police said that around five to seven bus crew started misbehaving with the girl a few minutes after she boarded the bus, which was traveling without other passengers. The victim's boyfriend tried to prevent the men from molesting her, but the men beat him up with an iron rod and sexually assaulted the girl. Then she was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted,her male friend was also attacked and both of them thrown out of the vehicle.
