Al Jazeera America is the name of an upcoming news channel to be launched by the Qatar-based television network Al Jazeera in 2013. It was announced on 2 January 2013, along with the announcement that the network had purchased the American progressive media company Current TV, which had been struggling in ratings and announced in October 2012 that it was considering selling itself. Al Jazeera has stated that it plans on shutting down the Current TV channel, and using the company's distribution network to broadcast Al Jazeera America.

The channel is expected to be available in 40 million American households, out of 100 million total. Previously, Al Jazeera English was broadcasted in only a few U.S. cities, though it is available online for free.
