The Phone

Shouldn't it have it's own article by now? I can't find it anywhere on Misplaced Pages. Was it canceled? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.204.146.137 (talk) 06:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Music genre

He's not predominantely a R&B/soul singer. He's more pop. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.196.99.4 (talk) 20:21, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Instruments

This dude plays more instruments. You guys might wanna check this. He's no virtuoso, but there are other instruments Justin Timberlake plays like the piano and bass. He played bass with Flaming Lips once and on an 'N Sync performance. You can search for that and update the page. Also check for him playing the piano in some performances. I just saw this on his "What Goes Around" performance for his FutureSex/LoveShow on YouTube. Look it up and update the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.231.40.3 (talk) 01:15, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

GA review

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

This article is in decent shape, but it needs more work before it becomes a Good Article.

  1. Is it well written?
    A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
In the Early life section, 5 should be spelled out as five. "When the show ended in 1995, Timberlake recruited Chasez to be in a new all-male singing group organized by boy band manager Lou Pearlman was forming with Chris Kirkpatrick", this may be me, but the sentence needs to be a little clearer and it needs a source to back that up.
    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
    B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
  • A source is needed to cover this sentence ---> "His parents divorced about 1986 and both have remarried; his mother, who now runs an entertainment company called Just-in Time Entertainment, remarried to Paul Harless, a banker, when Justin was aged 5; while his father, a choir director at a Baptist church, has two children, Jonathan (born c. 1993) and Stephen (born c. 1998), from his second marriage to Lisa. A twin sister, Justina Timberlake tabitha, died shortly after birth in 1997 and is mentioned on one of Timberlake's record acknowledgments as "My Angel in Heaven". It is rumored that Timberlake resides in the Libby Residence Hall
  • N'Sync section, "Timberlake and JC Chasez, who had known each other in the Mickey Mouse Club, were the two lead singers of the popular 1990s boy band, 'N Sync", "the 11 million albums sold", and "For the next two years, they, encouraged by similar situations in the Backstreet Boys, engaged in a lengthy legal battle with corrupt manager Lou Pearlman and eventually signed with Jive Records", need a source.
  • New section - 2002-2004: Justified and Super Bowl, "In August 2002, after months of recording the album, Timberlake performed at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, where he premiered his first single, "Like I Love You", a sparse dance track produced by The Neptunes", "The song reached number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100", needs a source.
  • "Following the single, Timberlake released his debut solo album, Justified, on November 5, 1999", needs a source.
  • Does Reference 17 cover ---> "The album also received critical acclaim, thanks to its heavy R&B influence provided by hip-hop producers The Neptunes and Timbaland"?
  • "Timberlake supported the album by co-headlining the Justified/Stripped Tour with Christina Aguilera in the summer of 2003", needs a source to back that up.
  • At the end of the performance, Timberlake tore off a part of Jackson's black leather costume in a "costume reveal" meant to accompany a portion of the song lyrics. Part of the costume became detached, and Jackson's breast was briefly exposed, really needs a source.
  • "As a result of the controversy, Timberlake and Jackson were banned from the 2004 Grammy Awards unless they agreed to apologize on screen at the event", needs to have a source, due to all the controversy that occurred.
  • His wins at the 2004 Grammy's need a source. 2004-2006: Collaborations and acting, "The first role he took during this time was as a journalist in the thriller Edison Force, which was filmed in 2004 and received a direct-to-video release on July 18, 2006" and "He also appeared in the films Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales, and voiced a young King Arthur in the animated film Shrek the Third, released on May 18, 2007", all need a source.
  • "After "Where Is the Love?", he again collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas on the 2005 track "My Style" from their album Monkey Business. Additionally, Timberlake was featured on Nelly's song, "Work It", which was remixed and included on Nelly's 2003 remix album. When recording the 2005 single "Signs" with Snoop Dogg", source.
  • The operation for his throat and advised not to sing or speak, need a source.
  • The release of FutureSex/LoveSounds needs a source.
  • Does Reference 23 cover ---> "debuted in the number one position on the Billboard chart, selling 684,000 copies its first week. It is the biggest album for pre-orders on iTunes, and beat Coldplay's record for the biggest one-week sales of a digital album. The album was produced by Timbaland and Danja (who produced a bulk of the album), will.i.am, Rick Rubin and Timberlake himself, and features guest vocals by Three 6 Mafia, T.I. and will.i.am. A studio representative described it as being "all about sexiness" and aiming for "an adult feel"?"
  • Reference 33 needs to be fixed.
  • A source is needed for the restaurants he's opened.
  • Other work section, "Near the end of 2002, Timberlake was the first celebrity to appear on Punk'd, a "candid camera" type show created by Ashton Kutcher to trick celebrities. Three episodes later, he set up Kelly Osbourne to be "punk'd", thus making him the first celebrity to appear on the show more than once. Timberlake later spoofed Ashton Kutcher and Punk'd in a 2003 episode of NBC's Saturday Night Live", again.... source.
  • New section - Personal life, "Timberlake later dated actress-dancer Jenna Dewan (in mid-2002) and actress-singer Alyssa Milano (between September and October of 2002)", definitely needs a source.
  1. C. It contains no original research:
IMDB is not a reliable source.
    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
  2. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
  3. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
In the N'Sync section, "The success was followed by their third album...", needs to be re-written as it sounds like POV. This ---> "The album was also a success, despite selling considerably less than previous 'N Sync efforts", sounds like POV. "Timberlake put his recording career on hold in an attempt to jumpstart his acting career", needs to be re-written, just a little.
  4. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
  5. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
  6. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
This article is in need of a lot of sourcing. But, if the statements above can be answered, I will pass the article. Good luck with improving this article!

Editing should be allowed!

There are a number of blatant mistakes, and unspecified statements on the Justin Timberlake Misplaced Pages page (one example is that he is not "rumoured" to be dating Jessica Biel, but is in fact, doing so; this has been confirmed by Justin himself, on more than one occasion now). If it wasn't protected, these issues could more easily be addressed.

I don't think it's a good thing for general media information pages to have the option of not allowing anyone to edit them but their creators. It counters a big part of what makes Misplaced Pages. Digginghistory (talk) 01:37, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Can you please allow the edit about JT appearing on Ciara's next single as confirmed with a credible referece.??? (Lil-unique1 (talk) 22:17, 19 February 2009 (UTC))

In addition, June 8 should be listed as past tense and the order of his other work is incorrect (2004 is before 2009).

Fight at Rainbow Bar

I heard something about Justin about being involved in a brawl at the Rainbow Bar after the Fashion Rocks show, read all about it here http://celebedge.sympatico.msn.ca/Justin+Timberlakes+club+chaos/Bang/ContentPostingBang3column?isfa=1&newsitemid=BSBS37556&feedname=BANG&show=False&number=0&showbyline=False&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc&date=False. I wonder if it is viable enough to be included in the article. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 02:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

The relevance is...? Has there been a criminal charge filed? Has there been a civil suit filed by any of the other parties, naming him? If not, I don't think it's relevant enough to be in the article. --Winger84 (talk) 16:38, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
That's why I asked if it's viable enough to be in the article, you can see that question written after the link. I was just suggesting. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 00:04, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Please don't assume bad faith in my response. It was certainly not intended to belittle or otherwise criticize. I merely posed the questions that needed to be answered about the subject, in order to answer the question that you asked. Thanks.. --Winger84 (talk) 19:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

So, if a civil suit is filed, it is considered relevant to his page? I ask because I do not see anything on the page about the suit filed against him back in 2000 involving an alleged assault at a hotel. hsxeric (talk) 20:45, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

To answer my own question, think of Tony Shalhoub on "Monk" and Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder that causes a person to suffer repeated obsessions and compulsions. So that can be good, right? Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 03:34, 12 April 2012 (UTC) Or is it just passion?

Owns a golf course

I put these two references into the article but feel the move of Justin Temberlake into MySpace support needs greater prominence! Clearly, his support will be more than financial, since he will also weigh in with his talent and leadership. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 23:07, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Justin Timberlake and his costar make a political statement. They say their movie just coming out is like the Occupy Wall Street movement. “It's very serendipitous that this movie's coming out right now with Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Los Angeles, Occupy the World as it were,” Timberlake said. “We’ve always split everyone into the classes throughout history, obviously through race and wealth. Andrew is so good at shedding a light on it, at turning a mirror on us by using this other worldly concept. The film does that, and also kicks your ass.” Costar Olivia Wilde also comments for the article today, October 24th, 2011.

Justin Timberlake writes about Marines and their autumn ball

Justin Timberlake attended the Basic School Instructor Battalion 236th Marine Corps Birthday Ball with Marine Corporal Kelsey DeSantis. and writes about it on his website. . . . Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 23:13, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Justin was ONE of the lead singers of *NSYNC

This article states that he was the lead singer of *NSYNC, but he was actually ONE of the lead singers. JC Chasez being the other lead. This should be corrected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carpenrl (talkcontribs) 23:21, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

It seems to have been corrected (listing both lead singers) as you requested. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 21:59, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Justin is described as a "protogantist" of the film "In Time" - believe this is a typo and should be changed to "protagonist".

Marine Corps Ball (grammar)

Could the sentence be edited to make it more clear? The way it is phrased now is very confusing, especially with the passive voice and only mentioning De Santis' name parenthetically: "Justin Timberlake was asked to take a fan to her unit's annual ball in July, 2011 via YouTube, and he attended the Marine Corps Ball with her (Kelsey De Santis) on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in Richmond, Virginia"

Could it possibly be changed to something like "In July of 2011, Marine Cpl. Kelly De Santis uploaded a Youtube video asking Justin Timberlake to attend the Marine Corps Ball with her in Richmond, Virginia. Timberland accepted the invitation, and on November 13, 2011, Timberlake attended the ball with De Santis. He wrote positively about the experience on his website, praising the dedication and patriotism of De Santis and her fellow Marines."

(I am new to wikipedia edits, so I hope I'm doing this according to protocol, I apologize if I'm not!) Katied9 (talk) 14:39, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Your protocol is excellent, be assured. Text under the picture and to the left of the picture is shorter. You make a good point about his "praising the dedication and patriotism of De Santis and her fellow Marines." You could make the addition yourself, some day. Please consider replacing the following paragraph:

CURRENT: In 1993, Timberlake joined the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club. His cast mates included future girlfriend and pop superstar Britney Spears, future tour mate Christina Aguilera, and future band mate JC Chasez. The show ended in 1994, but late in 1995 Timberlake recruited Chasez to be in an all-male singing group organized by boy band manager Lou Pearlman that eventually became 'N Sync.

WITH THIS EDIT:

Timberlake was discovered by casting director Matt Casella at an open call for The All New Mickey Mouse Club (MMC) in Nashville, Tennessee and joined the cast in 1993. His cast mates included future girlfriend and pop superstar Britney Spears, future tour mate Christina Aguilera, future band mate JC Chasez, and future film stars Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell. The show ended in 1994, but late in 1995 Timberlake recruited Chasez to be in an all-male singing group organized by boy band manager Lou Pearlman that eventually became 'N Sync.

Ashton Kutchers prank on Justin Timberlake in the show punk'd “where an agent from the US Tax Enforcement Agency (played by Dax Shepard) came to his house to say he owed $900,000 in taxes. His confession of drug use a hit social media, in efforts to appeal to the humanity but did not tarnish his branding image as a pop star celebrity. Confused

In the Personal section it says that his and Brittany's relationship ended upbruptly in March 2002. It says they dated for 10 or 11 years which means they started dating around 1992. The problem is in the next paragraph where it says 'Post-Spears, Timberlake has generally refused to discuss his personal life with the media, as a result of which his relationships have been the subject of much speculation in the tabloid and celebrity press.' Ok, I am fine with that. The next sentence says, 'Prior to Spears, he was briefly romantically involved with Beyoncé Knowles and singer-actress Stacy Ferguson.'

So did he date Beyonce and Stacy prior to 1992 or after he broke up with Spears in 2002?? Mylittlezach (talk) 23:59, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Please change the marital status of Justin Timberlake from engaged to married. He was married today to Jessica Biel in a private ceremony in front of family and friends at the Borgo Egnazia resort in the southern Italian city of Fasano.

Not done due to lack of sourcing. It is the burden of the requesting editor to provide valid sources in any edit request before other editors are reasonably expected to complete said request. If you can provide a valid, reliable source, reopen this request and post the source and I will take another look at it.
Already done. When I looked at the top of my edit box I saw the sources. So I went to add it, and lo and behold, it's already in the article. gwickwire | Leave a message 20:52, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Infobox guidelines: spouse

I'm just wondering what the protocol is for listing a spouse in the infobox. For example, Jessica Biel's infobox includes JT as her spouse, but this is not replicated here. Jami430 (talk) 04:46, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

"1981-94: Early Life" -- Insert comma, please

Unless Timberlake's father was marriage two times to Lisa Perry, there should be a comma after the word "marriage": "...from his second marriage, to Lisa Perry."

Here's how the sentence reads presently: "His father, a choir director at a Baptist church, has two children, Jonathan (born c. 1993) and Steven Robert (born August 14, 1998), from his second marriage to Lisa Perry." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.28.235.114 (talk) 05:25, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

I feel that all this information is tacked on to the end. It would be better spread throughout the section.

"In January 2007, Timberlake began dating actress Jessica Biel, with whom he had been photographed on multiple occasions; the couple initially refrained from publicizing their relationship. Timberlake and Biel separated in March 2011; he later proposed to her in the mountains of Jackson, Wyoming in December. The couple married on October 19, 2012 at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Fasano, Italy." 67.190.84.40 (talk) 19:50, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Mickey Mouse Club

I cannot edit Justin's page, but I have a request. It lists him as a member of The New Mickey Mouse Club. Technically, that is the 1970s version which starred Lisa Weichel among others. The version he starred in is titled The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. Can someone please change this on his page?

It shows up in the opening paragraph 3rd line down, Early Life and Education 8th line down, and Career: 1995-2004 1st line of 2nd paragraph.

Thanks so much! Blue4t (talk) 03:29, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Edit request

I think Justin's discography box should be expanded to include things such as video releases, singles and EP's etc. Many artists these days have every single release listed, whereas Justin barely has the majority of his major releases. Filmography

(note: I hadn't noticed the preceding entry here until just now - sorry about missing the consensus suggestion)

First, I have added a filmography table. It seems obvious that this article needed one. Second, another editor feels that the filmography should be in a simple list form, similar to the basic listings for the discography. But, looking at the table, as it's laid out and with the information it contains, it's seems appropriate to keep the table instead of deleting it and creating a simple list in it's place. Also, the table is the format that is found on many, many other actors' articles. I'm not aware of any wiki-policy governing this issue. The table should remain in the article. - thewolfchild 21:07, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Additionally, Status, I would like to add that seemingly every other actor on WP has their filmography in a detailed table, and not in simple list. I have considered that perhaps you have raised this issue because Timberlake isn't just an actor, but also a musical performer. To that end, I have looked up several other musical performer/actors (with listed discographies) here such as; Jennifer Lopez, Common, Ice Cube, Ice T, Emily Browning, Mandy Moore, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Whitney Houston and Frank Sinatra. All of the articles have filmographies in a table format. So I really am at a loss as to why you BOLDLY needlessly reverted the table I added virtually within seconds of my doing so. You have also come to my personal talk page seeking a prompt discussion, which I have requested we bring here. Now I am waiting for a response from you, with an explanation as to why you feel Timberlake's page should be soo different from all these others. Thanks. - thewolfchild 21:55, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

First of all, I left a message on your talk after you said "see talk page" and there was nothing on this talk page at the time, so I don't know what you are going on about there. Can you show me an example of an actor, who has a filmography article, that also has a table in their main article? The purpose of the table is to show the film works, which is already done in Justin Timberlake videography. Should a table also be included for his albums, according to you?  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 22:14, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
