== Help please, with my RfC? ==
Would you help me, please with ]
I started it after another user undid some in the Criteria of an assault weapon section of the ] article. ], the user told me that what I'd done was "scrubbing," told me the matter had been discussed previously (implying but not citing a consensus of opinion among article editors), and just generally treated me like I'd not acted in good faith.
I have been a Misplaced Pages user for many years, and an editor for quite a few, too - ''though I am not a very experienced one''. I'd never been involved in a dispute before that I can remember. When I realized what was going on (after a revert and another undo), I reviewed the ] page and chose RfC. Perhaps I chose poorly, but here we are.
Help, please? | |||

Abdulbaset Sieda DYK issue
Hello! Your submission of Abdulbaset Sieda at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Maile66 (talk) 17:30, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
DYK for Abdulbaset Sieda
On 22 June 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Abdulbaset Sieda, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Abdulbaset Sieda, the new head of the opposition Syrian National Council, used to be a university professor in Libya? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Abdulbaset Sieda. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Orphaned non-free media (File:Islamic Group in Kurdistan.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Islamic Group in Kurdistan.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:06, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the notice - comment added to the image page. Happy for it to be deleted now as the logo has changed and the new logo is now on the page. AndrewRT(Talk) 12:06, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Request for comment
A discussion has been opened at Misplaced Pages:No_original_research/Noticeboard#Frank_L._VanderSloot, where all discussion should take place.
The questions are:
- Based on the claim of Synthesis, should the original version or the revised version of the LGBT Section be used in the article from henceforth—of course with the ability to edit it as necessary?
- Because the original "LGBT issues" Section adversely comments on a Living Person, should that section be immediately replaced with the revised section—of course with the ability to edit it as necessary?
- Should the Sources identified as faulty or not germane be eliminated from the list of References?

Liked your article on WeRelate. So I looked up too see if there were any Tullochs in "Burgher o' Westray." There is William born 19 May 1915, married to Georgina Burgher. Minorities in Greece
Hello. I have listed Minorities in Greece for RfC and tought you may be interested. The issue is, I was trying to add information about problems of muslims living in Athens (some 300,000 people) since some time but my edits are being reverted by multiple users. The main argument against adding this information is that those people are not minorities but immigrants. Details of the discussion are here. However, after my RfC, there has not been so many comments. Yours will be welcome. Filanca (talk) 18:41, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Please comment on Talk:Ugg boots trademark disputes
Per the WP:RFC and WP:FRS guidelines, I respectfully request your feedback regarding a question of law.
Should the Ugg boots trademark disputes article include example cases of counterfeit consumer goods? Is the counterfeiting of brand name goods a "trademark dispute" when the counterfeiters are taken to court? Also, an editor has claimed that the introduction of example cases of counterfeiting "dilute" the discussion about whether the word "UGG" is a generic term, and therefore ineligible for trademark protection.
Please respond to the survey here with "Support" if you believe counterfeiting is a trademark dispute when taken to court, or "Oppose" if you believe the reverse is true. Thank you. Phoenix and Winslow (talk) 12:44, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Misplaced Pages articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. Project Eurovision
Hi Andrew,
I noticed your post at the RfC on Project Eurovision, and felt that it would be appropriate to further explain the history of what has been going on. The whole situation began weeks ago when I posted a friendly note to one particular user regarding a PROD on the article Elitsa & Stoyan. The user appeared to have misinterpreted my friendly advice as being hostile, and further went on to accuse me of "ordering them about", despite the fact that I never did such action. I then asked the user if they would like to help me with a task on behalf of Project Eurovision - again the invite was made in a peaceful manner. But the user got hostile and basically said that they'd rather not work with me. A simple "no thanks" would have been sufficient, but they decided to personalise the issue instead.
Since then, I have been bamboozled as to why the user has such a negative attitude towards myself, and yet a polite attitude towards others. I had contacted another member of Project Eurovision in confidence, as I was starting to get seriously distressed to the behaviour I was being subdued to. I was advised by that member (who is also an admin) that I should offer an olive branch of peace, which I did. But the peaceful reconciliation was thrown back in my face again with such negativity. I since re-offered that branch of peace via the project talk page. But as you may have seen, the user replied stating they had no idea what I was questioning about, and invited me to their talk page to discus the matter further. I accepted their invite, and asked the question there. But to my surprise, the user actually knew what I was going on about via the project talk page. Why would someone be deceitful and say they haven't a clue what I'm talking about in the first comment, only to then say they actually did know in a second statement after inviting me to discuss the matter elsewhere? You can see here that I have offered an olive branch of peace, only to be told bluntly "no", and then they admit that they purposely "made one or two comments that were out of line in regards to you".
I have done my damned hardest to be civil and polite towards the user, but when they don't seem to appreciate that someone is trying hard to restore peace and continue to be indirectly hostile, then how does one expect to feel? Their behaviour towards is depressing and demoralising. I would have gone to WP:WQA but that no longer exists. The admin person that I spoke about above, also contacted me privately as they noticed the negativity from that user towards myself, and asked if I wished to take matters further with Admin Intervention. But I politely declined their advice at the time, as I didn't think it was fair on the other user that they be screened in such a way at mediums such as ANI. I just don't know what else to do, or where to go with this matter, as it is starting to cause distress and effecting me on a personal and mental level.
Any advice on how to resolve the matter would be appreciated, as I don't know how much longer I can cope with one user just attacking my slyly, and not just via talk page, but also via the email function - and the comments sent via that method from the user are more serious and disgusting than any of the ones posted via talk pages.
Apologies for coming here with this burden, but I really don't know where else to turn to. Regards, Wesley♦Mouse 15:57, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Wesley. Thanks for coming here and posting this and my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Yes, it's a tough one, but I have to say not uncommon. In many ways the bit about writing an encyclopedia is quite easy compared with the hard job of getting on with the other people who are also on the site! I can only speak from my personal experience in terms of what I have found to help and I hope that is useful. Firstly, focussing on the article itself, the content dispute, is often easier than a discussion on behaviour. Ultimately, if we de-personalise our disputes and just focus on the joint task of working together to write this fantastic encyclopedia then this can help. The old adages of WP:AGF and WP:NPA can be surprisingly effective! Where we do have a dispute, I also think focussing on the third parties is also useful. Asking ourselves "how would this look to an outside observer" is a useful litmus test before posting something. Would they see me as raising a legitimate challenge or as part of the problem? Finally, never feel ashamed in taking a break if you find you're not being constructive or positive. After all, there are plenty of areas on Misplaced Pages that need our help!
- I hope this has been useful in some way, and please let me know if I can help at all. AndrewRT(Talk) 21:50, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Andrew, and thank you for the kind words of wisdom regarding this matter. Unfortunately the whole scenario came to a rather abrupt end, despite my efforts to resolve the situation. As you may have seen on my own talk page, myself and the user involved held a lengthy discussion, and again I sought peace - but to no avail. The other user declined the offer of peace, and instead of pursuing an act of peace I decided to leave things be. We both came to a mutual agreement of an unofficial interaction ban, which if I'm to be honest, has upset me somewhat. All I ever wanted was to be seen as helpful towards others. This is the first time that anyone has virtually thrown help back in my face. So alas, I guess there is nothing more that can be done. Again, thank you for taking the time to reply back. Regards, Wesley ☮ Mouse 22:13, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Misplaced Pages better — thanks for helping!

Help please, with my RfC?
Would you help me, please with RfC: Is inclusion of the word "cosmetic" in the Criteria section appropriate?
I started it after another user undid some changes I made in the Criteria of an assault weapon section of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban article. On my talk page, the user told me that what I'd done was "scrubbing," told me the matter had been discussed previously (implying but not citing a consensus of opinion among article editors), and just generally treated me like I'd not acted in good faith.
I have been a Misplaced Pages user for many years, and an editor for quite a few, too - though I am not a very experienced one. I'd never been involved in a dispute before that I can remember. When I realized what was going on (after a revert and another undo), I reviewed the Dispute resolution page and chose RfC. Perhaps I chose poorly, but here we are.
Help, please?
