God of War (series)
Hi JDC808, I'm beginning the copy-edit for the above article that you requested on the GOCE request page. Feel free to contact me, or to correct or revert my edits if I'm doing something I shouldn't. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:23, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you again. --JDC808 ♫ 04:27, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
In 'Critical reception' --> 'Collections' there are two 'reception' tables, but there are three collections listed in text - 'Collection', 'Origins Collection' and 'Saga'. Which table relates to which collection? I plan to add a condensed title in brackets in the boxes next to 'Reception'. I've also adjusted the text formatting in 'Games' --> 'Collections' to avoid whitespace in the centre of the section; though I think I need to do more work there! Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:02, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- The first is for God of War Collection and the second is for the Origins Collection. I hadn't added one for God of War Saga as it doesn't have a GR or MC score (yet at least) and only one of the two reviews there I found gave a score. When I added the tables, I lined them up with the "collection's" paragraph they belong to. --JDC808 ♫ 04:16, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying - I'll probably deal with that section tomorrow - I'm breaking off for now. I can re-adjust the whitespace to line up again, but it really does look awkward on my 4:3 monitor. I'll see what the MOS says and get back to you if I find anything relevant. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:33, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Alright. I just had an idea, and maybe you agree. The collections do add a bit of extra bulk to the article. When the first collection came out (and any collection like this), I was against the notion of creating separate articles for collections in general because the games already have complete articles and these would be better as just sub-sections on the series page. Since this particular series has grown to feature 3 collections, I'm now in consideration of creating one separate article dedicated to the 3 collections (and any others they may release). Do you think this would be a bad idea, or do you think this would actually be better for the series article? --JDC808 ♫ 04:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

I think there's enough material for a separate collections article, especially if more are released. More detail and reviews could be added without swamping the rest of the 'series' article, and summaries left in 'series'. Don't move it yet though, or the text won't get copy-edited. :-)Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:06, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, cool, and will leave it there so it can be copy-edited. Thanks. --JDC808 ♫ 05:13, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well I couldn't find a way to add titles to the tables without upsetting the wikicode, so I've left them alone. I've also removed the track listing from 'Music' and the 'Other appearances' section. the former isn't really necessary - the GoW game series is the focus of this article. The latter is covered in the Kratos article, and again is redundant here. The text is on the article talk page; feel free to replace them if you wish. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:46, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, no problem. --JDC808 ♫ 18:22, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
- Done - I added alt text to images and titled the tables as above; finally worked out how to do it! :-D Feel free to contact me about any issues arising from the copy-edit; good luck with your planned FA nom. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:25, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Thank you very much. I do have a question regarding two previous copy-edits that you've done for me. Could you look over the Plot sections for both God of War (video game) and God of War II? They've been changed some since you originally copy-edited them and I wanna make sure they're still good. I also added a paragraph to the development section on God of War. I've also added a sentence or two to the very beginning of the Release sections on both articles. --JDC808 ♫ 00:36, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, since I've done them before I'll have a look. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:59, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

- No worries. :-) As for the present article, I couldn't find anything in the MOS specifically covering use or distribution of whitespace, and it might be a good idea to get a Peer Review before nominating. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 02:29, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Okay, and speaking of Peer Review, after I nominated God of War: Chains of Olympus for FA, and though it passed after the second attempt, I've made it a plan to have all these GoW articles (ot at least the ones I think really need it, like the series page) Peer Reviewed before FA nom. I currently have God of War (video game) up for Peer Review. --JDC808 ♫ 02:45, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Just wanted to say sorry about your GOW fac getting archived again, I don't quite get why, I thought it had a few supports. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:25, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't really understand why either. It had 6 supports versus 2 opposes. I dropped a message at GrahamColm's talk page asking why. --JDC808 ♫ 20:27, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- It seems to depend partly on who you get reviewing it. I had Ian Rose and I noticed the Broken Sword has him as well, and he seems more willing to say "Ok this has support but I want to see a review of this before I pass it". So in my case he wanted someone who wasn't a gamer to review it, and on Broken sword, last time I checked he had asked for an image review. Graham seems more happy to just shut down a nom. His reasoning was because someone had said its prose isn't "brilliant and professional" and Graham agreed with that. I asked Graham to provide an example of where it's not "brilliant and professional" because a copy-editor who copy-edited after that comment said it looked excellent. He has yet to provide an example. --JDC808 ♫ 18:13, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

They not the creators of the SERIES. They are only the directors of the games. The only creator of the series in general is David Jaffe. That's why I edited. Please, keep in that way. ---- Lemaroto (talk) 16:55, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
God of War I and II
I believe you are mistaken by labelling my edits "good faith" and reverting them. I tried to get rid of superfluos details from the plot, I believe the plot was already over 700 words, and I tried to make sentences more concise and flow more. Please explain as to why you should revert on both articles. You stated I added unecessary detail when I did not, I condensed information. --JTBX (talk) 02:46, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well, if you read my Edit Summary, I said why I reverted. For example, unnecessary detail. On GoW1, at the beginning of the section, you added "Kratos stands atop a large cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea and jumps, to his apparent death." This is unnecessary detail. Yes, this is the very first scene, however, we don't need an exact play-by-play (and this does get mentioned, so we don't want repetition). Another example, "Although Ares intended for this act to make Kratos the perfect warrior without any emotional bondage." The italicized portion is again, unnecessary detail. In one spot, there's a weird insertion of a sentence. "Kratos becomes plagued by nightmares of his horrible deed and commits to ten years of servitude to the other gods of Olympus to atone and rid himself of the visions. Now Ares wages war on Athens. Tired of his servitude,..." The italicized sentence is very random and out of place. I will say, this sentence (or at least what it's saying) can be useful, just not there. As per the plot summary length, that actually says "There is no universal set length for a plot summary, though it should not be too excessively long." I've had both GoW1 and 2 copy-edited in August conveniently by the same editor and he does a pretty good job at trying to cut out superfluous details, making it more concise, and making the article flow better. I'm not saying he's perfect, but he does a good job and is better than myself. --JDC808 ♫ 03:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
I'll try a second time, let me know what you think. However, I did not understand your revert of GOW2.--JTBX (talk) 14:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC) Your point about the sentencing is correct, if only you did not revert me on GOW 2 when that was what I was targeting. Read the Gow 2 Plot.--JTBX (talk) 14:40, 7 November 2012 (UTC) I unreverted you on the GOW 2 plot because there are so many problems with it I do not know where to begin, please read the the plot before and after.--JTBX (talk) 17:47, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

- How come they didn't promote when you had more supports? Darkwarriorblake (talk) 12:11, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- Another editor, who gave his support and has been helping out with copy/editing the page, asked Graham Colm if the nomination could be reopened as per what I had said on your Talk page. Graham Colm said "Sorry but no. After nearly two months at FAC, there was no clear consensus to promote." (even though it was 3 supports and 1 oppse). He also said that "spotchecks of sources for close-paraphrasing and verification still need to done." despite the fact that the same editor had done so on a lot of the sources. He later said he doesn't think it's ready. You can see the discussion here it you'd like. The most annoying part is that I, and you as well, have to wait two weeks to be able to nominate again. I don't know what I need to work on because he closed it before the user who opposed had another look to see if we addressed the issues, and I know you're in that same boat, at least for Arkham City. --JDC808 ♫ 21:16, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm...reading that, his answers seem unfair and POVish, "he doesn't think they are ready" so tough tomatoes; multiple 'low-brow' games fail including GoW with 3 supports whereas he seems to have an interest in biology, and the more 'prestigious' bio article on James_Bryant_Conant passes no problem with 5 supports. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 21:44, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- If it's any consolation, I'll try to review Arkham City the next time you nominate it. I was planning to do that this week, but it was archived before I had the chance. I'll also reaffirm my support on the next GoW nom. —Torchiest edits 21:48, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

- You know, I really want to. But I think the delegates are cracking down on what I think is gamer bias. Like, since we're all from the Video Game Project, and we may Support the article, they might not accept them since we are gamers. Look at this. I'm amazed this is being said about us being a "fraternity". So as such, and I wish I wouldn't have to, must decline on reviewing it. GamerPro64 06:57, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Coming to consensus on video game console acronyms
Hi JDC808,
As you might recall, a little while ago I made some edits on the article on God of War II. Amongst other things, I removed the acronyms PS3 and PS2 in the lead*, which you reinstated later on. The reason why I did that is that I don't think it is relevant to mention the way consoles are usually shortened. Like you said Misplaced Pages isn't just for gamers, so I always make sure that in article bodies it is spelled out PlayStation 2 or something similar (X360 -> Xbox 360, NGC -> Nintendo GameCube). But I'm not trying to convince you, I'm trying to find a consensus: 'cause at the same time, on Misplaced Pages we do write PSP, PS Vita, and Nintendo DS. Also, it seems, the PlayStation 4 will be marketed as PS4 so it seems obvious to me to go for those acronyms throughout articles.
- I think when the name of the console is first used in the article, we should identify the acronym. We don't necessarily have to use the acronym ourselves when we're writing the article(s) or adding information, but if we do, it'll be covered, and also, quotes often use the acronyms. Also, if a non-gamer reading these articles come across an article or something else that uses the acronym but doesn't identify what the acronym means, they might remember it from reading it here. --JDC808 ♫ 20:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I also want to congratulate you on the great work you've been doing on the God of War articles. Like Darkwarriorblake runs a tight ship on Dishonored and Masem on BioShock Infinite you got a good understanding of Kratos and bloody murder in ye olde Greece. Thanks for that.
- Thanks. I'm actually surprised there aren't more people on Misplaced Pages interested in editing the God of War articles. Oh well, I enjoy it and hope to eventually bring all of them to FA. I've got Chains of Olympus there, and currently have God of War 1 up for FAC. --JDC808 ♫ 20:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Anyway, let me know what you think what's the right way to go by acronyms. Otherwise we can always drop by those guys.
Thanks, and happy editing. --Soetermans. T / C 20:08, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
• On a sidenote: I absolutely hate it when people write 'lede' instead of 'lead'.

Main Page appearance: God of War: Chains of Olympus
This is a note to let the main editors of God of War: Chains of Olympus know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on April 19, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/April 19, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:
God of War: Chains of Olympus is a 2008 third-person action-adventure video game. It is the fourth installment in the God of War series and a prequel to the original God of War. It is loosely based on Greek mythology and has vengeance as its central motif. The player controls Kratos, a Spartan warrior who serves the Olympian Gods. Kratos is guided by the goddess Athena, who instructs him to find the Sun God Helios, as the Dream God Morpheus has caused many of the gods to slumber in Helios' absence. The gameplay is very similar to that of its predecessors, with a focus on combo-based combat. The game features quick time events that require the player to complete game controller actions in a timed sequence to defeat stronger enemies and bosses. The player can use magical attacks, and the game also features puzzles and platforming elements. Debuting at No. 5 on the North American charts, Chains of Olympus achieved the highest composite score for a PlayStation Portable title from Metacritic and GameRankings. It has won several awards, including "Best PSP Action Game", "Best Graphics Technology", and "Best Use of Sound". By June 2012, the game had sold 3.2 million copies worldwide. (Full article...)

God of War (video game), Making of article
You should incorporate Edge's The Making of God of War into the Misplaced Pages article. It has only just appeared online this weekend, but was originally published in 2009, and has been available all this time from the (much underused) VG Reference Libary. Featured articles should be a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature, so don't forget print. - hahnchen 20:31, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Alright. I'll try to read over that tonight and see what I can do about implementing it. Clearly you need to read the plot
I did not add a single piece of unnecessary detail...in fact when I first saw it I was surprised as more detail was added than last time...the only thing I did was rearrange some sentencing to make it read anf flow better. LOOK at the differences...I made cuts not additions, further more it is important to clarify certain details like how Prometheus was found on the finger because both him and Typhon are titans and it confuses people. Also this game came out before God of War III, we don't need revisions in the plot to reflect a new addition to the franchise as that constitutes real world information. --JTBX (talk) 07:18, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I'll point out all areas of unnecessary detail,:
- 1st paragraph:
- "The eagle reveals itself to be Zeus, who states he was forced to intervene against Kratos as Athena refused to do so."
- "against Kratos" is unnecessary detail. It's already implied who Zeus is against.
- "The eagle reveals itself to be Zeus, who states he was forced to intervene against Kratos as Athena refused to do so."
- 2nd paragraph:
- "She instructs Kratos to find the three Sisters of Fate,"
- It's already been established there's three sisters, why state it here again?
- "chained to one of Typhon's fingers"
- Completely unnecessary. You said it's important because it confuses people, how? It states that Prometheus is a Titan twice: right before this statement and in the Characters section. Also, with my reversion on this, the sentence flows smoother and it states that he's in mortal form because of Zeus.
- "She instructs Kratos to find the three Sisters of Fate,"
- 3rd paragraph:
- "Just before reaching the island,"
- You're removing this, why? Removing this causes two problems, 1.) that's 3 consecutive paragraphs that begin with "Kratos", and 2.) there's no segway from paragraph 2 to 3.
- "Just before reaching the island,"
- Last paragraph:
- As per WP:INUNIVERSE, if it helps the reader, it should stay. No other game in this series has an ending that is also the next game's beginning.
Oh, and I have read the plot, numerous times. --JDC808 ♫ 08:12, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Characters of God of War
I would love to, and I applause your great excursions to improve the God of War content, but I don't think you want my vote, because I believe articles such as this one are not lists, but articles. There is too much prose and many other structural issues that show it to be in fact an article not a list. I would nominate it for Featured Article status instead.
