  • The deadly pathogenic amoeba Naegleria fowleri, which has a fatality rate of at least 98% even with treatment (two people have died and one has lived, recently) has been found for the first time in U.S. tap water near New Orleans (in St. Bernard Parish; it has happened before, in Australia; both cases were likely due to inadequate chlorination of warm water). It is spread only by nasal inhalation. (NBC)
