The 2013 Los Angeles Airport shooting was a shooting that occurred November 1, 2013 by a lone gunman at Terminal 3 of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in Los Angeles, California.
Shooting
A lone gunman entered Terminal 3 of the airport pulled a rifle out of a bag and began firing. He moved into the screening area and continued shooting. He got past the checkpoint area and moved further into the terminal. Law enforcement tracked the suspect and got involved in a gun fight, which injured the gunman that lead to his capture.
Injuries
Seven victims were treated at the scene and six were transported to area hospitals, including three men, two suffering gunshot wounds, being treated at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Some of the injuries were not from gunshots.
Fatalities
One TSA agent who was shot at the airport later died from his injuries.
Suspect
The lone gunman had a high-powered rifle was captured after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement in which he was injured. The suspected gunman is Paul Anthony Ciancia, a 23-year-old from Los Angeles.
Reaction
Law enforcement evacuated several terminals and searched for any other possible suspects. The Federal Aviation Administration grounded all outbound flights at the airport. LAX diverted some flights to Ontario International Airport.
