Amity University is a private university in India. Established by the non-profit Ritnand Balved Education Foundation in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh; it has campuses in Noida, Lucknow, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Gwalior and Dubai.

History

Amity University was founded by Ashok Chauhan, the founder of the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation. Amity was India's first private university slated to implement reservations based on caste etc for both faculty as well as students, The school started with an enrollment of 120 students. In 2011, it had 80,000 students in 240 programs.

Programs

Amity has 240 programs in 50 disciplines.

Accreditation

Amity University is accredited by NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council) with grade A in 2010.

Amity's Business Schools are accredited by the American Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs(ACBSP), USA.

Amity's Engineering Degrees are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, IET, UK.

Association Memberships

Amity is a Member of and listed by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the International Association of Universities (IAU), and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

Research

According to its chancellor, Amity faculty, scientists and students filed over 150 patents in 2010-2011 in areas ranging from nanotechnology to food processing.

Campuses

According to the university, it has five campuses - Noida, Lucknow, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Gwalior. As per Amity, it also has Business Schools across various cities in India under the name of "Amity Global Business Schools", and in London, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius.

Rankings and Recognition

The university received several rankings in the 2013 India Today college rankings. It was ranked India's #1 non-profit private university. Its engineering school was ranked first amongst India's emerging colleges. It's BBA program was ranked #2 in India. The School of Communication was ranked #5 amongst Mass Communication programs in India. The Fashion Design program was ranked Seventh in India.

In 2005, the government's statutory body for approving technical programs, AICTE had revoked Amity's license to offer the post graduate course in business. In 2007, after a petition filed by Amity, the Delhi High Court directed UGC to include Amity University's name on its website and approve Amity's license. The courts additionally asked UGC to conduct inspection to find out problems in Amity University's programmes.This was done as UGC had not recognized Amity University. That year, AICTE also brought out an advisory for students to "avoid 168 unapproved colleges"; the list included Amity.

Management

Atul Chauhan is President of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and Chancellor of Amity University. Aseem Chauhan is the Additional President of the Foundation. In 2007, USA Today reported that Ashok Chauhan, the founder of Amity, expected that generations of his family will control the school.

Activities

Amity tied up with Red Bull Racing and Amity's F1 Racing Club has organised many events like bringing Red Bull Drivers to campus as well as displaying on campus the Red Bull Racing Car.

Amity has tied up with Manchester United Football club to organise soccer school programs for students. The first one was held in April 2013

Amity has been partnering IPL since many years and has been the action replay partner on the broadcaster Sony as well as sponsor of teams like Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals.

In exchange for co-branding opportunities, Amity trained 22,000 volunteers for the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi.
