Lorraine Franconian is a Germanic dialect spoken in parts of the French region of Lorraine. The part of France where this dialect is spoken borders the large German city of Saarbrücken. Lorraine Franconian is a close cousin of Luxembourgish. Lorraine Franconian is spoken in Sarregemuines, Forbach and other municipalities, but not in Thionville (Diedennuewen designated locally), where Luxembourgish is spoken. It is possible that more speakers of the Italian language than of Lorraine Franconian live in the area where Lorraine Franconian is spoken.
