About me
I am an administrator on Misplaced Pages. I'm mostly interested in anything having to do with science, including but not limited to, evolution, encryption, astronomy, science fiction, SETI, and computer programming. I'm also interested in politics, mostly because of the negative influence on science it's been having lately. I am an unabashed naturalist.
Misplaced Pages programs
I am a computer scientist by training, so naturally I put some of that effort into Misplaced Pages. Here is a nonexhaustive list of programs that I've written that perform various tasks on Misplaced Pages. They're written in Perl and they're definitely not Misplaced Pages bots. For the most part they retrieve a page automatically and return its Wiki source modified in some manner, then you copy that back into the edit box, verify that it is correct, and save. If any of you bot programmers out there want to make these fully automatic, go for it, just be sure to obey the conditions of the GPL, under which all of my programs are licensed.
- References converter. This converts articles that use the old {{ref}} and {{note}} system into the new <references /> system.
- Wiki Userbox Generator (formerly WikiFools). This program generates a slew of random userboxes. Some configuration options are available.
- Featured pictures generator. This looks at the contents of Misplaced Pages:Featured pictures and returns it in a nice gallery format (see here). I made this before I realized that Featured pictures visible exists. Whoops.

I own and run two bots:
- Cydebot (talk · contribs) – does various encyclopedia-related work, including acting on decisions of the community at WP:SFD, WP:CFD, and WP:TFD.
- AntiVandalBot (talk · contribs) – runs software identical to Tawkerbot2, used exclusively as a backup.
Note that if you see any "Robot" edits coming through on this account it's really Cydebot getting around edit restrictions placed on locked pages.
