Māris Verpakovskis (born October 15, 1979) is a striker who plays for the Latvia national football team. He also plays for Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine.
Verpakovskis was born in Liepāja, Latvia and first played for his hometown team, FHK Liepājas Metalurgs. He moved to Skonto FC, Rīga in 2000.
Verpakovskis was the leading scorer for Latvia in the qualifying round of 2004 European Football Championship, with 6 goals in 10 games. After Latvia qualified for the Final Round, there were a lot of rumors about leading European clubs interested in Verpakovskis. He signed a 5-year contract with Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine in December 2003.
