Althouse College was established at ] on April 16, 1963, the then second teachers college established in Ontario (Toronto the first). It was originally created to train educators at the secondary level, and consisted of a mix of veteran teacher faculty and PhD level research faculty. In 1973, ] (Elborn) merged with Althouse College to form the Faculty of Education at the university. Elborn mostly held veteran teacher faculty, and while some were brought over to Althouse, many did not.
