Methodist Church Nigeria is a major Christian denomination of Nigeria. It has about 2 million members. It is a member of the World Council of Churches as well as the World Methodist Council, among others. It also belongs to the Christian Council of Nigeria. The church was founded in 1842 by British Wesleyan Methodist missionaries and gained autonomy from the British Methodist Conference in 1962. It has an episcopal structure with a prelate, eight archbishops and 44 bishops. It does charitable work. Around the turn of the millennium it has grown quickly.
