Peep and the Big Wide World is an American/Canadian produced Flash animation television series created by Canadian Animator Kaj Pindal and based on the 1988 short film Peep and the Big Wide World produced by the National Film Board of Canada. The current series premiered on April 12, 2004 on Discovery Kids and on TLC on the block Ready Set Learn. It debuted on PBS Kids on April 12, 2004. It was produced by WGBH, and 9 Story Entertainment. The series ran on April 12, 2004 through September 14, 2010 with 55 episodes. On October 10, 2010, the series was removed on the Discovery Kids lineup due from the new channel The Hub Network. It now airs nationally in the United States on public television, distributed by American Public Television. Peep and the Big Wide World is currently sponsored by the National Science Foundation in conjunction with WGBH-FM as part of an educational and outreach program. The National Science Foundation is the only permanent sponsor of the show. Northrop Grumman, The Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Chuck E. Cheese's, ExxonMobil, Toyota and Viewers Like You. Thank You funded the show for only season two. The Discovery Kids Foundation funded the show for only season one.
Overview
Young viewers follow Peep, Chirp, and Quack as they investigate and explore the world around them. Following the 9-minute animated segment, there is a 2-minute live-action segment with children exploring and demonstrating the same topic presented in the animated segment. Animation consists of bright colors and simple shapes.
