== Help with BLP == | |||
Hi, Sarason. Would you have some time to give me some help with the BLP article ]? I'm asking because I noticed you edited this article not long ago.
As I started to clean up the article (formating references, tagging bad sources or the lack of them, cropping the main image...), I notice that the references used almost never cover that they are supposed to. Even passages that would be trivial to reference( like the subject's place of birth , or the fact that he was cast as dancer and choreographer for a given movie) were marked with references that completely fail to mention what's said on the article.
The article , and it's a BLP (supposedly). But, with the references we have by now, the whole article could very well be an hoax.
I have tagged many passages of the article with {{tl|failed verification}}, or {{tl|citation needed}} for now. If we strictly follow ], and remove all these passages by now, the article would contain almost no information about the subject (currently, it already contain more tangential information about a theater he worked in than information about the subject himself).
Do you know enough about the subject to check these concerns (and have the time to do so)? I appreciate your input. --] 21:30, 28 May 2014 (UTC) |

Thanks, Tony. I will continue to assist.

Tony,
I looked through articles 30-35 in your second workshop Workshop 2 and 26-34 in your first workshop Workshop 1, and made a few contributions (mostly minor things - italics, word choice, paragraph breaks, etc.).
Would you like me to look at any other articles in particular? If not, I'll just look through the rest of your workshop.
The Puerto Ricans in World War I and Puerto Ricans in the Vietnam War articles were outstanding - a great breadth of issues, yet encyclopedic in their detail.

Request
I recently wrote various articles on notable Puerto Rican scientists and physicians. I was wondering if you could look them over. If so, go to my Workshop start with #31.-Fernando López Tuero, ending with #35. Thank you. Tony the Marine (talk) 15:42, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Workshops #31-35
Tony,
I looked at your Workshop #31-35 articles, and found a few small things here and there. Those doctors are far better than any I have encountered in NYC. The only one who comes even close visited my home, carrying a little black bag, and saw me when I was 4.

Thank you
Now, if you can I would like for you look at articles 30-35 in my second workshop Workshop 2 and 34-26 in my first workshop Workshop 1. Thank you once more. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:26, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Re:Ladislao Martinez
You wrote
In the Ladislao Martinez article someone wrote "quitter" as a musical instrument. Should the word be "quinto?"
Also the main footnote (footnote 1) is a dead link.
- I fixed the footnote, the sad thing is that somethings the websites, which are relible sources, cease to exist and we are stuck with "dead links". Martinez was associated with the "cuatro", the instrument belongs to the "guitar" musical family. I don't think he had anything to do with a "quinto". Take care Tony the Marine (talk) 18:06, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- Don't worry, you don't have to send me a notice about your edits. I fully trust your judgements, however feel free to ask me questions and whatever else. Tony the Marine (talk) 18:33, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Re: Position and size of photo
I think that it looks fine as is. I agree that placing in the left would not look good. I did an article on Irma Lozada. I don't know about you, but for me she had a strange resemblence to J-Lo. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:32, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Re: Mariana Bracetti
Now that I look back at the edit history, it's clear that you were editing the article while I was composing my message to Tony... and the article was changing as I was looking back to compare the differences and whatnot. I even ran into an edit conflict on Tony's talk page, as we were both posting at the same time. It's clear to me now that it wasn't you who put the "Further reading" section above the "See also" section at all. My apologies. :) -- WikHead (talk) 03:39, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
WikHead, no problem. Thank you for the message. Nelsondenis248 (talk) 03:45, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome Nelson. From what I can tell, your edits to the article appear to be very well contributed! Have yourself a great day, and happy editing. :) -- WikHead (talk) 03:50, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Advice
Go over here: File:Roberto Clemente Pirates.jpg and create a "rationale" which justifies its useage in your excellent article "Puerto Rican Baseball". Check the other images and those which are not "PD" may also need a "rationale" added. Tony the Marine (talk) 23:15, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
FFD of File:LIVE RR LittleBook.jpg etc.
It's me again. The discussion of File:LIVE RR LittleBook.jpg, etc. on Fastily's talk page has now been archived without Fastily contributing. Has he contacted you in any other way over this? If you raise the matter at DRV I shall certainly support you. I was (and still am) thinking of raising the matter myself (with your agreement) but now Fastily has announced on his talk page he is taking a wikibreak. Since I would question the way the FFD was closed, more than the actual deletions, I am wondering if I should still do this. I quite often comment at DRV but have never opened a discussion. Thincat (talk) 14:30, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thincat, I really appreciate your interest and support in this matter. I was not planning a DRV effort, because it appears that it would be futile. However if you want to raise the other policy concerns, please feel free to do so, and I will support it in any way I can.
- I believe you are more conversant in these matters than I, so my input may not be as compelling - but I will be glad to assist and support in any way that I can. Again, I really appreciate your positive spirit and encouragement. It is far from the norm which I have encountered.
- Thank you again, please keep me posted, Nelsondenis248 (talk) 05:06, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'll think about it and let you know. I have been watching WP:FFD for a few months after some very bad deletion nominations/discussions/closures and have been utterly horrified about what is regularly happening there. One or two people are malicious and more behave well outside policy. For the latter, I think they are well-intentioned but seriously misguided. There are, however, so many rubbish images and very badly described ones that it is difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff. I find WP:DRV thoughtful and civilised and WP:AFD, though more humdrum, is conducted considerably better than FFD, PUF, TFD and MFD. Thincat (talk) 11:38, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Pigasus (politics)
Granted he had less chance of actually becoming president than even Michelle Bachman or Ron Paul, but the "nomination: is still cited as a brilliant multimedia event, which drew an amazing amount of attention, and is described in every serious book about the 1968 campaign. The use of Pigasus likeely helped to diminish the Humphrey candidacy and put Nixon in the White House, quite a piece of "blow-back." The best of the articles I cited (a book) has several paragraphs and could be used to ref a suitable stub, with removal of hoax claims. See [http://books.google.com/books?id=lQDXyCNJ-bEC&pg=PA52&dq=democratic+pigasus&hl=en&sa=X&ei=hiXFT7OOKKXW2AXbuYTzAQ&ved=0CEwQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=pigasus&f=false "No One Was Killed: The Democratic National Convention, August 1968 By John Schultz, Todd Gitlin"]. It might take more than one concerned editor to revert nonsense which some might seek to keep in the article. Edison (talk) 19:37, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- I whole-heartedly agree. The unintended consequence regarding Humphrey/Nixon never occurred to me! Thanks again for your great research. Nelsondenis248 (talk) 19:53, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, I broke the Wilson reference then complained about it. I mentioned on the talk page that if there is some coverage of the 1968 pig in the 1975 novel, it might be put in an "Influence" section, but people get bent out of shape about "In popular culture sections" such as ones which list every time some historic figure is mentioned in some comedy show or novel. For now, I am resisting the article stating that Pigasus was on trial in a courtroom, as opposed to Rubin, Ochs and others being tried for the "Acceptance speech" as disturbing the peace, or for the Chicago 7 being tried for conspiracy. Edison (talk) 20:56, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do you have access to the Wilson trilogy? To have any reference to it, we would need bibliographic info, but especially what page something is said. Edison (talk) 21:07, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- I gave the page numbers and the relevant text from the book on the article talk page. Regards. Edison (talk) 21:21, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- It was an early and brilliant piece of political theater, akin to the "Swiftboaters" allegations against Kerry, the "Paula Jones" and similar attacks on Clinton, and the "Birthers" attack on Obama. Edison (talk) 04:12, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Sammy Betancourt
Somebody wrote the bio. of Sammy Betancourt, a Puerto Rican basketball player completely in Spanish. It was nominated for AfD and I agreed. However, a really bad English translation was made and seeing the effort and worthiness of the article, I changed my vote to “keep”. I did a lot of copyediting to the article and looks better than before. The thing is that you are much better then I especially when it to copyediting and such and I figured that it would be great if you looked it over and did your thing. Formal mediation has been requested
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Oscar Lopez Rivera". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 28 May 2014.
Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

- Sarason, I hope that you and the others accept the invitation to mediation on OLR, because what is the point to argue on issues on an article's "talk" page if no one willing to discuss the same issues when invited to a mediation? Help with BLP
Hi, Sarason. Would you have some time to give me some help with the BLP article Joaquín Santiago? I'm asking because I noticed you edited this article not long ago.
As I started to clean up the article (formating references, tagging bad sources or the lack of them, cropping the main image...), I notice that the references used almost never cover that they are supposed to. Even passages that would be trivial to reference( like the subject's place of birth , or the fact that he was cast as dancer and choreographer for a given movie) were marked with references that completely fail to mention what's said on the article.
The article written out of nothing by the single purpose account back in 2011, and it's a BLP (supposedly). But, with the references we have by now, the whole article could very well be an hoax.
I have tagged many passages of the article with {{failed verification}}, or {{citation needed}} for now. If we strictly follow WP:BLP, and remove all these passages by now, the article would contain almost no information about the subject (currently, it already contain more tangential information about a theater he worked in than information about the subject himself).
Do you know enough about the subject to check these concerns (and have the time to do so)? I appreciate your input. --damiens.rf 21:30, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
