I don't edit Misplaced Pages very often

I have previously edited maybe 10 or 12 Misplaced Pages articles. They included ones about C-Span, Marcel Proust, and Raymond Chandler. One major contribution (almost 50%) I made to an article is something that I think very few people in the world could have done, and now that is owned by Misplaced Pages thanks to me (no, I won't say what it was so you'll have to take my word for it). The edits took place in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, and now. I only have the whim to edit every few years, so I just created a new username each time then forgot about it. I have forgotten the passwords, usernames, or both for my previous usernames, and I never set up any password retrieval system. I have never engaged in sock puppetry, nor am I a single-purpose account. I personally feel unqualified to comment meaningfully on a wide variety of articles. Citations for Coates's arrest

Misplaced Pages says consensus is determined by the quality of the arguments. So here's mine:

Here's the original blog post I read that I had been trying to find for a while (note that the author refers readers to "longer version' in his book: http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/07/a-quick-note-on-violence/259508/

Here's another: http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/06/if-i-were-a-black-kid/276655/

Here's another: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/07/the-littlest-schoolhouse/308132/

Here's another: http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2009/06/things-i-dont-understand/19326/

Here's a piece referring to the adult author's temptation to hit someone and how he resisted, using lessons from his upbringing: http://www.theatlantic.com/personal/archive/2010/10/a-culture-of-poverty/64854/

Here's a piece discussing the author by highlighting his background (not sure if it's worthy of inclusion as a cite or not): http://2014.wascarc.org/content/ta-nehisi-coates-why-we-teach-and-why-we-learn

That's four of the author's own blog posts, plus his book, totaling 5 sources, all mentioning his arrest and suspensions. If that's not reliable and notable enough, I don't know what is. Face it: the arrest is relevant to this guy. Useitorloseit (talk) 21:10, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Notice of RfC 2 and request for participation

There is an RfC on the Gun politics in the U.S. talk page which may be of interest to editors who participated in "RfC: Remove Nazi gun control argument?" on the Gun control talk page.

Thank you. --Lightbreather (talk) 22:33, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Your participation would be welcome. Lightbreather (talk) 01:20, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Canvassing is a discouraged activity.

Information icon Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Misplaced Pages's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. __ E L A Q U E A T E 20:01, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

I am picking people who have more than 5 requests allowed per month. I don't know anything about their views and only recognize one username. Useitorloseit (talk) 20:04, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

I was invited by Useitorloseit to participate in an RfC regarding Ta-Nehisi Coates. I have no idea about his behavior up to now but the wording of his invitation was impeccably neutral. (By chance, I was also invited through Misplaced Pages's random selection process to comment on the same RfC.) -The Gnome (talk) 20:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Coates RfC

How are you choosing which editors to notify? --NeilN 20:01, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Based on who has more requests per month, so as not to use up the ones with only 1 or 2. Useitorloseit (talk) 20:02, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
I don't understand "requests per month"? --NeilN 20:04, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
It says for example "limit 2 per calendar month" or "limit 10 per calendar month" so i am picking those who have allowed more than 5. Useitorloseit (talk) 20:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Ok, from Misplaced Pages:Feedback request service? That's for a bot to use. A bot will notify random people. --NeilN 20:09, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
According to this https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:RFC#Publicizing_an_RfC posting on Talk pages is allowed. Useitorloseit (talk) 20:12, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Good enough. You may want to preface your notifications with something like, "You are receiving this because you are listed at Misplaced Pages:Feedback request service." This lets other editors know how you are choosing your list. --NeilN 20:17, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I know it's good enough. I'd appreciate it if you checked the rules before telling me not to do something. Making false assumptions about people seems pretty common around here. Useitorloseit (talk) 20:31, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
I asked you a simple question and your initial answer was completely unclear. --NeilN 20:43, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Then you erroneously told me the bot was supposed to do it, not me. Useitorloseit (talk) 20:46, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Reference Errors on 3 June

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:29, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Stop reverting

It is impossible to deal with this if you all are constantly reverting and arguing in multiple venues. I've recollapsed the content; if you undo that, I'll block you from editing. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

See my comments there. Collapsing is a compromise that will likely leave everyone dissatisfied, but you are not to uncollapse again. You should probably read WP:NOTVAND at some point, what your opponents were doing is not vandalism. Now, please feel free to calmly respond at ANI to comments raised about your editing. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:54, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
You say I'm allowed to defend myself, then don't allow me to edit my own post. Your "compromise" is just their position. Useitorloseit (talk) 02:58, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
It is unnecessary to add the specific edit to your response in order to defend yourself. And yet, for some dumb reason, I've allowed it to remain, just collapsed. You understand that, right? It's there, but collapsed? if that isn't good enough for you, too bad. --Floquenbeam (talk) 03:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I think it's clear some users hide their disruptiveness behind laughable claims of "BLP concern". But your "too bad" comment shows there's no use discussing it. Don't bother reply. Useitorloseit (talk) 03:24, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Good faith notice to stop and think about what you're doing.

I'm a little nonplussed by your actions today. You're in the middle of an edit war on the Admin noticeboard. It's the second time you have been in the last two days. You're attempting to erase a message from an admin, Floquenbeam, on the admin noticeboard itself. I don't know if you're trying to go down in a blaze of glory, but this isn't going to convince people your behavior is above reproach. You should consider focussing on your arguments and show that you can contribute more to the encyclopedia than this.__ E L A Q U E A T E 21:57, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

I don't think changing that caption is very controversial - it says "for now" which means it's temporary, and the edit war's over. I didn't un-collapse it. It's MY reply, too. I think people reverting it are being remarkably small-minded. There's little purpose other than being difficult. Misplaced Pages has rules about being constructive, not making pointless conflicts. Useitorloseit (talk) 22:00, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
One of those rules is that you don't try to revert something more than three times in most cases even and especially when you think you're right. If you were changing your own reply, it would be one thing. But erasing the warning words of an admin is not the same thing as rephrasing words of your own. Let Floquenbeam erase their own words when they're ready, or discuss it with them. This is especially true when the words themselves are literally leave it alone for now. I say this in order to smooth out a dispute, but when someone reverts you like that, consider the basic advice in WP:3RR rather than how right you feel you are. Your edit was covered by none of the 3RR exemptions.__ E L A Q U E A T E 22:14, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I only reverted it 3 times. Instead of focusing so much on my conduct, why don't you really try to be helpful and read through my replies and consider others' misconduct, which is the center of the dispute? This is my Talk page, and I am asking you to stop posting here unless I give you permission. Useitorloseit (talk) 22:18, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Your first attempt at restoring the material was only 21 hours ago, going attempts going up to 20 hours ago, so it was only about about 18 hours when you started again, not 24. You were still within the 24 hour period when you started edit warring again. That you responded to Elaqueate's generous attempt to help you with further blame-shifting and refusal to get your mistakes leaves me with no faith in your capacity to be a mature editor. Want to prove me wrong? Cut the blame shifting, take responsibility for your mistakes, and become more cooperative in other articles. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:33, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
It was a different edit. Elaqueate has a tendency to lecture, as do you. Please stay off my Talk page. Useitorloseit (talk) 22:35, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Indefinite topic ban

Useitorloseit, the consensus at WP:ANI is that you should be banned indefinitely from editing Ta-Nehisi Coates, its talk page, and all other associated article and talk pages and Misplaced Pages spaces. I have closed the discussion in this edit and have logged the ban at Misplaced Pages:Editing_restrictions#Current_sanctions. You can apply for this sanction to be lifted via the procedures outlines in WP:UNBAN. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 22:25, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
