Career
Early life
When Aruna started her career in IT, she joined right after business school and was expecting consulting type of roles, but the first assignment she had was maintenance. She thought all the cool jobs went to everybody else and thought she should be little above everybody else because she came out of business school. She complained bitterly for two weeks trying to get her role changed. Her manager one day called her and said, “Can you just shut up and get on with it. Five years from now, you will be very happy that I said this to you. You can learn far more from doing this than anything else, so be quiet and do your job” and so she did it for 18 months.
She says “When you are 21 years old, you won’t have the ability to look at the big picture, but at least be patient. If you look at a career span of 30 years, 12 months or 18 months don’t matter. You should learn from every role that you have, learn from it and get on with it. I will never forget the person who gave her that advice”.
Prior to assuming the role of CEO in January 2011, Aruna was the Global Delivery Officer for Capgemini Outsourcing, where she improved quality, productivity and profitability of Capgemini’s outsourcing operations worldwide. Aruna has over 2 decades experience in the IT services industry and has worked in both multinationals and pure-play companies. She has worked out of Europe and North America and continues to travel extensively meeting customers, analysts and Capgemini staff, getting a pulse of customer expectations and market direction. Within a short period of being appointed CEO, Aruna has quickly made her mark in the world of Indian business.
