Welcome to my Talk Page!

You can leave me any questions, comments, or suggestions you have on this page — I don't bite! I'll try to reply where the conversation has started. That way it keeps things in one place. Hey

Hey Mike,

I saw that you deleted the article with the list of the largest US Law firms due to what you deemed a copyright infringement. The page did not in fact contain any copyright infringement given that the material listed in the chart was entirely factual and not the slightest bit creative. For an explanation of specifically what I'm talking about see the Supreme Court case Feist Publications, Inc., v. Rural Telephone Service Co., 499 U.S. 340 (1991). Here's the wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/Feist_v._Rural. Anyway, if its easy enough to undo the deletion that would be awesome. I'm no good with computers myself so I wouldn't even know where to start.

Hi Jay,
I deleted the article in response to an email sent through our online ticket response system. Because of the potential concerns of copyright infringement, I've sent an email to our in-house legal department so that they may weigh in on the issue. Once I hear back I'll be sure to let you know. Template:Country data SPA

The protection template you added to this redirect broke the redirect and all transclusions (see for example Brasília#Partner cities). Could you please move the {{pp-template}} template after the #redirect tag so the redirect works? SiBr4 (talk) 19:39, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Template:Infobox mobile phone

Hello, Mike

I see that you've put Template:Infobox mobile phone under Admin-Only protection following the edit dispute. I'd like to ask a TemplateEditor level of protection. And before you ask, no, I do not intend to edit the disputed area! (I would lose my TE right if I did that.)

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 19:02, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I think it would be best to maintain the full protection for the template. Current policy recommends to use full protection for content disputes involving auto-confirmed accounts and even discourages the use of template protection for issues involving editing disputes. In addition, while I understand that you do not intend to edit the disputed portions, during a content dispute protection it's best practice to only perform edits that are procedural or edits that reflect a strong consensus formed on the talk page. If you wish to see an edit performed to the page, I think it would be best to propose it on the talk page, gather a consensus, and then post an edit request. Best, Mike VTalk 22:48, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Very well. I understand. Thanks a lot for your time. Would it be okay if I asked you again when the RfC is expired? Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 00:38, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Sure, that would be fine. Once the RfC is resolved I do intend to lower the protection level. Mike VTalk 00:41, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Darlington South Park Bowls Club Deletion

Hi,

I tried to upload a page for the above last night which seems to have been deleted for copyright infringement. All the detail was from private paperwork owned by the club back to 1896. How can I get a page on here, I don't fully understand the detail as never used Misplaced Pages before but it would be nice to put a page on here??

Thanks

Scott — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottm3472 (talkcontribs) 17:40, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

As the content of the article was copy and pasted from a copyrighted website, it had to be deleted. If you wish for the material to be used, you can contact the owner of the material and have them follow the procedures here. Otherwise, you will have to create the page from scratch in your own words. I would suggest you take a look at this page here. This link offers a lot of information about how to create an article on Misplaced Pages. Best, Mike VTalk 17:54, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

uTest

Mike V --

I was curious why you deleted the uTest page. uTest is a hub for more than 140,000 in-the-wild app testers working for the company Applause. At the very least, could we arrange for a redirect from uTest to Applause and include the deleted content within that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eharrison3 (talkcontribs) 14:35, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

I've set up a redirect to the new company name. Please note that in its current state, the article reads with a promotional tone. I would encourage those involved with the article to take a look at our neutrality policy to help improve the article. Mike VTalk 16:20, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Alphaslucas

Hi Mike, Alphaslucas redirects to User:Alphaslucas. I've CSDd the former, and you've protected the latter. Can you at least slide a subst:userpage|noindex=yes onto it at least. BTW, why the protection? I've reported the editor at AIV (already received L4 warn for disruption) although this is more an advocacy/promo disruption than pure vandalism. Widefox; talk 11:17, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
The user page was semi-protected from a request at RFPP. Personally, I don't feel that the page is promotional enough to impose the template on his user page. However, if you feel that the the page needs to be removed from indexing you're welcome to discuss the matter with the user. Mike VTalk 16:18, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
Agree about content, to me it's ok side of the border. With WP:UPNOT "But at the same time, if user page activity becomes disruptive to the community or gets in the way of the task of building an encyclopedia, it must be modified to prevent disruption." A redirect from mainspace to userspace while userspace is protected is clearly disruptive, coupled with a link to a non-draft User:Alphaslucas/Crownex. There's presumably a desire for linking/indexing and this is a bit WP:WEBHOST. That page says it's a "backup". If we can de-incentivise indexing, at least that's something. I will CSD the latter. Widefox; talk 21:51, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't see it was just semi. I've CSDd more subpages, and was BOLD and put it in myself and informed the user with twinkle. Just wanted to keep you in the loop as I've gone further than you suggested. Regards Widefox; talk 12:43, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello Mike! This is Chow Sang Sang. Noted that my article is not accepted. Could you explain why it's not accepted? And could you help pointing out some lines in my article which are not accepted, for my easy understanding and I can improve it as soon as I can. As I'm new on writing for Misplaced Pages, not sure which part breaks the rule, but eager to improve it and contribute. Thanks very much for your help and opinion!

Welcome to Misplaced Pages from the Anatomy Wikiproject!

Welcome to Misplaced Pages from WikiProject Anatomy! We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of anatomy articles here on Misplaced Pages. One of our members has noticed that you are involved in editing anatomy articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProject Anatomy talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing anatomy articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
  • We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
  • Lastly, why not try and strive to create a good article! Anatomical articles are often small in scope, have available sources, and only a limited amount of research available that is readily presentable!

Feel free to contact us on the WikiProject Anatomy talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. I wish you all the best on your wiki-voyages!

Sorry, I see you're not a new user but we just have this one template! I saw your edits to Development of the endocrine system. We're a group of editors working on anatomical articles and always looking to collaborate, so feel free to drop by. --LT910001 (talk) 23:30, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Banc De Binary Refocus on Discussion

Hi There.

I wanted to know if it would be ok to move your comment to the Attempt to gain consensus section, where I think it will be a better contribution. BDBJack (talk) 22:05, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Sure, I have no qualms with that. Mike VTalk 22:07, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
I've made the move, please feel free to make any corrections that you feel are appropriate to give it context. BDBJack (talk) 22:18, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

G8 of user pages

Hi, you deleted some userpages like User:ScottDaleRobison as G8. Please note that G8 doesn't apply to user pages (see WP:G8), since even as a link to a redlink they are still useful to inform users about the new username of a renamed user. As I'm involved with the user who tagged these, it may be best if you undelete them and notify the original tagger instead. Fram (talk) 07:38, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've reversed the deletion. I looked through other pages that were deleted and some appear to fall under G13. I'm inclined to leave those cases deleted, as it would be a bit bureaucratic to undelete and redelete them at this point. Mike VTalk 17:32, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
No problem with that, it's indeed useless to undelete and redelet just to get the box right (in such cases). Thanks! Fram (talk) 06:32, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Ouch, you undeleted but left the speedy tag on it, so another admin has now deleted that userpage as well... Fram (talk) 06:34, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Marion Zimmer Bradley - Child abuse claims

Hi Mike I'm a new wikipedia contributor so apologies if I'm wasting your time.

I believe the source I quote is acceptable as while while it is self published (via a third party publishing it with permission) it is from a source about themselves, which is acceptable within the wikipedia guidelines as I understand them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources#Self-published_and_questionable_sources_as_sources_on_themselves

Gerard — Preceding unsigned comment added by YourGloriousLeader (talkcontribs) 19:31, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

@YourGloriousLeader: A couple of the caveats of the policy you mentioned is that it is an exceptional claim and it does involve a claim about another individual (see points 1 and 2). As such, the source cannot be used to support this statement. Traditionally, first person sources are used for uncontroversial things pertaining to that individual, such as occupation, marital status, number of children, etc. (All provided that there's no basis to suspect the accuracy of such claims.) If I can be of further help, please don't hesitate to ask. Mike VTalk 19:42, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
MikeV - is Ms Greyland's claim about a person dead for 15 years actually a violation of WP:BLP? I can see that it may be inadequately sourced as a claim about MZB, but I don't see a BLP issue if Ms Greyland says, publicly, that she was molested. Argyriou (talk) 20:01, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
BLP policy applies to all living individuals, not just the subject of the article. The source that was used was an individual's blog, clearly an unreliable source for such a tall claim. The BLP policy states clearly, "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." We owe it to our readers and those affected by such statements the courtesy to get the facts straight with solid support. Mike VTalk 20:16, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
As the person in question (MBZ) has been dead for 15 years & her husband has documented conviction for child molestation the previous cited rule does not seem relevant. Whether it is relevant or not would MBZ's daughter going on the record herself, rather than via a third party, remove all doubt about the source of the claims? YourGloriousLeaderTalk 21:59, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Per this policy, "Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as: ... 2. it does not involve claims about third parties (such as people, organizations, or other entities). (emphasis mine) We cannot use her statements to support such a claim. In order for it to be included in the article, it will need to be reported by multiple reliable, third-party, published sources that have demonstrated consistent editorial oversight of their published content. Until this occurs, it should not be included in the article. Mike VTalk 21:12, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Deleted page about Peter Danko

Hello Mike,

I am working on creating a page about Peter Danko, a designer. You had deleted the page that I was working on. All the information that was there came from Peter Danko directly. Please let me know how to proceed. I am new to Misplaced Pages and do not understand why information about Peter Danko, an artist and furniture designer, is not acceptable by Misplaced Pages.

Also, is there any way for me to see the deleted page?

Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, the article was a copyright violation of other works on the internet. Per our policy, I'm unable to provide copies of material deleted under this rationale. I would recommend that you check out these pages here: 1 and 2 for additional information on Misplaced Pages's editing policies. Mike VTalk 00:37, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Requested deletion on Manggahan High School

Do you think you could handle the mess on Manggahan High School. User:Neilvin John Aventurado keeps requesting deletion and left this message on my talkpage https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User_talk%3APiguy101&diff=612920130&oldid=612812610. I've left a note on the user's page about our attribution policies. While we can't delete the article, this does not preclude him from creating a draft in his userspace and posting it to the mainspace when it's ready. (Provided that it meets all of our policies: Neutrality, copyright, verifiability, etc.) Mike VTalk 19:52, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
