U2

Please don't. --John (talk) 16:02, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Re:U2 tone

Your presumption is incorrect; it has been shown repeatedly on the talk page that "U2 are" is correct when using British English. The U2 article is written using British English, and per WP:ENGVAR the opening sentence is correct and should not be changed. The article uses British English, not American English. Get over it. Malta

Hey there. I'm afraid I find some of the edits you are making rather unacceptable, in an historical revisionism sort of way. The choice of words is carefully chosen, and not entirely open to rewrites, certainly not without consensus. If you would like to propose changes, please raise them on the talk page; re-writing history is not acceptable. Of course, this may not (hopefully!) be your intention, but considering the sorts of editors who focus on these pages, one should always be alert. Thanks for your understanding and attention. Ελληνικά όρος ή φράση (talk) 14:27, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, you seem to have some difficulties with the English language; "relieved" ("relief") does not simply refer to bowel movements. Please be careful, this is the English language wiki and some proficiency in the language is required. Ελληνικά όρος ή φράση (talk) 14:31, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
My comments were not aggressive - I was simply pointing out a statement of fact, and suggesting the use of talk pages as appropriate. Also, you didn't sign your post properly. Take care, Ελληνικά όρος ή φράση (talk) 00:55, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Signing posts

Hi. I noticed in some of your recent edit summaries that you've been adding four tildes to sign them (~~~~). You actually don't need to sign edit summaries (as it has no effect, and the editor who made the edit can be seen in the page history). You only have to sign your comments on talk pages, like this one, and article discussion pages. If you knew this already, or don't understand a word I say, then sorry, (the following is produced by ~~~~) Lord Spongefrog, (I am Czar of all Russias!) 15:51, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Harry Männil

Thank you for reviewing the Harry Männil article and cleaning up where necessary. I made some additions to the article and I'd be grateful, if you took another glance at it, if it's not too much hassle. Here is the diff of my changes. Best wishes, Quibik (talk) 23:49, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Recent death tag

User:Masterknighted - you have been inappropriately adding the Template:Recent deaths tag to articles. This template should only be used when many editors (perhaps a hundred or more) are editing the article on the same day. Do not use it merely to tag the article of a recently deceased person. - Crosbiesmith (talk) 20:37, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Have you now read the template guidelines? Have you consciously decided to ignore them? - Crosbiesmith (talk) 15:16, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

I read it why don't you lecture everyone else wo puts those tags up there nowMasterknighted (talk) 15:22, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

What Crosbiesmith said. Please don't add the tag to every recent death. Rettetast (talk) 21:20, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

February 2010

Please stop adding unreferenced controversial biographical content to articles or any other Misplaced Pages page, as you did at Paul O'Grady. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Misplaced Pages policy. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing Misplaced Pages. Nothing about his death on the news. I suggest you stop making that kind of edit. Rodhullandemu 17:38, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

I only added it after I saw him listed on recent deaths- I made a mistake I did not list him as dead on the recent deaths page
If he had been listed in Deaths in 2010, it should have been reliably sourced; per policy on biographies, we require cast-iron sources before making edits like that. Cheers. Rodhullandemu 17:43, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Once again I did not list him there. My high crime was to put the recent death tag and change the tense of is to was without reading the obituaries source which next time I should in advance. So perhaps your charges were a bit overeaching.

You should not add the recent deaths tag to articles, the only exceptions being heavily edited articles. In this case, you were the first person to edit the article today. - Crosbiesmith (talk) 20:52, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Hey there. I saw you make this edit to the article. Please do not do that again without providing a source. Thank you. NW (Talk) 20:40, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Dylan Meier

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Dylan Meier. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Misplaced Pages:Notability and "What Misplaced Pages is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Dylan Meier. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Fabio Polenghi

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Fabio Polenghi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Misplaced Pages guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Anowlin (talk) 16:53, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Nelson W. Aldrich Jr.

The article Nelson W. Aldrich Jr. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Ambiguous notability.

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Palisades Center

Hi. Regarding your edit to Palisades Center, please remember to cite a reliable source when adding information to articles, in order to comply with the site's policies on Verifiability and Original Research. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 23:25, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

sure, there is a big huge IHOP sign up in the hall in the mall that says IHOP coming soon is that reliable- do you have a reliable source attached to every restaurant you have listed there- I have also seen the forever 21 and it is on my list of things to do to reliable source thatMasterknighted (talk) 18:17, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

No, personal knowledge is not reliable, that's called original research, which is not permitted, because it cannot be verified by readers per the Verifiability Policy. A reliable source is one that's been published by a credentialed, recognized authority. And yes, I've worked to make sure that every all information in the article, including names of restaurants and stores mentioned, is supported by a reliable source. Check out the list of anchor stores in the Layout section for an example of this. But if I missed anything, feel free to fact tag it or remove it. (Sorry for this late response, but I was unaware of the your above response to my May message.) Hope to see you at the next NYC Meetup. Happy Holidays! Nightscream (talk) 05:33, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Happy New Year to you too. :-) However, I'm not following. What information in the article are you referring to that needs to be sourced, and why do you need me to source it? Can you clarify? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 20:02, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I think you can make the determination from what appears not to be journalistic sources but, rather websites associated with the mall itself and other similar avenues, as to what you deem appropriate to keep order in your hallways. Perhaps there is not a source yet proper enough and we should wait, but I do not want to post and be wrong so I am appealing to your oversightMasterknighted (talk) 20:08, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Article notability notification

Hello. This message is to inform you that an article that you wrote, Susan Scutti, has been recently tagged with a notability notice. This means that it may not meet Misplaced Pages's notability guidelines. Please note that articles which do not meet these criteria may be merged, redirected, or deleted. Please consider adding reliable, secondary sources to the article in order to establish the topic's notability. You may find the following links useful when searching for sources: Find sources: "Susan Scutti" – news · books · scholar · JSTOR · free images. Thank you for editing Misplaced Pages! Maria Desylla-Kapodistria

I deleted the article because it was based on a copyright violation. Yes, the words were altered edit by edit. But the original copyright violation was actually still there. And even if it was removed in the final version, the article still had to be deleted because of the copyright violation it was based on. This deletion does not prevent the article from being recreated of course, provided it is started from scratch. Garion96 (talk) 07:19, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Really now if the material from the violation was removed and the source material remained in a way which it was altered so as that it was no longer a violation then it would not have to be removed because properly citing a source is not a violation. So I would appreciate if you would repost it with the violation removed so that I can improve it where it needs to be done. If somebody swipes a pack of gum you do not shoot them you instruct them not to do that again, you in effect rehabilitate them. This article just needed to be corrected.Masterknighted (talk) 14:28, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
It is actually quite simple. Just don't copy & paste copyrighted (not under a free content license) material on Misplaced Pages. You are free to create the article again. Without the copyvio the article was

" Maria Desylla-Kapodistria (Μαρία Δεσύλλα Καποδίστρια) was the mayor of Corfu from 1956 until 1959. On April 18, 1956 she became the first woman elected mayor of a city in the history of modern Greece. She donated the land on which the Kapodistrias Museum established in 1981 and created in memory of her ancestor Ioannis Kapodistrias, considered the founder of the present Greek state, sits today." From v. For

Hey there. Wanted to discuss something real quick so we dont start a brouhaha. I noticed you took exception to the "For" in refernce to Byrd's Senate designation. I understand what you are saying about the "From" part. But there are other considerations. First, it is a colloquialism in American parlance and is not that in the rest of the World. Secondly, it doesnt matter where the Senator is "From", which can easily be mis-interpreted outside of the US- he could be from the Dark Side of the Moon, but still represent Idaho for instance. We may say that Joe Bob is from Alabama and we know what that means. However, he works "For" the people of Alabama and his Congressional district, which is why he is elected to represent their interests. When we designate MPs or other State elected officials such as India, we use the same terminology in a somewhat standardized set of terms. Another reason, party representation systems such as the one in Thailand or as we found in Tunisia this week gets awkward when you say a MP died from the National Party. How can you be from a Party? Well you cant. You work for a party representing their interests. Respond back to me if you have a question about that. Ciao.Sunnydoo (talk) 01:53, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Let me give you a specific circumstance. John Kerry was born in Aurora, Colorado. He represented (until recently) the state of Massachusetts in Congress as a Senator. You cant say that he was "from" Massachusetts because he was born in Colorado. You can say that he was "for" the state of Massachusetts as far as representing them. Yes, it is a technical point, but we are trying to use a set of standards so that we can incorporate everyone into the system and treat everyone fairly by doing it the same way each time. Likewise the recently departed Lindy Boggs was from a separate district in Louisiana than the one she represented. If you click on the link for a US House of Rep member's state on the board, you should find their specific district info. Again, you could not say she was from that district, but she was for it.Sunnydoo (talk) 15:58, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

The correct designation is the correct designation "the chair recognizes the Seantor from Virginia" on the box listing it says Senator from thats what it is- to put in a set template to explain everything in the same way other than the way it actually is and explain it away as an American colluquioliam is to loose the beauty of the language. What is this a starbucks of information everything should be the same , John Kerry was the Senator from Massachussets-Masterknighted (talk) 13:18, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Maja Wampuszyc

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Maja Wampuszyc requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. --] 01:04, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Masterknighted. I've removed the speedy deletion tag, as CSD A1 obviously didn't apply. Thank you for all your article work - almost 17,000 edits to mainspace is very impressive! — Mr. Stradivarius 01:28, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Maja Wampuszyc

The article Maja Wampuszyc has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ENT (has not had two major roles in notable productions) and WP:GNG (lacks substantual coverage in independent reliable sources).

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I see that you have been instrumental in the Pictures Generation article. Would you consider editing an article for one of the prominent members of that movement, Nancy Dywer? It would be a great help....

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages. Regarding your edits to Roman Campagna, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, reduces edit conflicts, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:03, 3 February 2014 (UTC) Sorry I was trying to change around Cole Thomas to Thomas Cole and I messed up the read on the file in the Campagna gallery it is a wiki commons image can you put it back I cannot fix it

(edit conflict)It's not clear what you are trying to achieve at Roman Campagna, apart from fixing the artist name, for which I thank you. Messing with the filename causes it not to display. I fixed it once after you'd made six or seven unsuccessful attempts, but you went back and broke it again. Any particular reason for that? Also, if you'd kindly preview your edits before saving, the edit history would not be so unnecessarily long ... Thanks, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:08, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Sorry I did not know you were fixing or I would have left it alone so no reason just unaware and I appreciate your repairsMasterknighted (talk) 21:10, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

I'll fix it, no problem. But please, use the preview next time if you don't mind. If it doesn't work in preview, there's no point saving it. Thanks for fixing the name. I've never heard of him, but I notice that his article makes no mention of any visit to Europe, though he obviously went there. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:13, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Horst Rechelbacher, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Himalayan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

For not From

John Kerry was born in Colorado. He was not the Senator from Massachusetts. He worked and was elected for the State of Massachusetts.Sunnydoo (talk) 01:20, 30 March 2014 (UTC) How many tomes do we have to have this conversation the senator is addressed as the senator from in the U.S always has beenMasterknighted (talk) 01:23, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

No it is not. Its just of the media likes to play fast and loose with the English language. Its the use of the wrong preposition. I like to use the term House instead of the entire thing. But some on here dont like that so we have to use the entire thing. Its just a case of using the preposition the right way. Just because someone uses it wrongly doesnt justify that we do. The term automobile crash is another. If you look up the word crash, you can see how many times the media uses it incorrectly. When we talk "from" we are most often describing a person's birthplace not in this context. It is easier to say "for" as he is elected and represents the people of Massachusetts and is "for" their interests.Sunnydoo (talk) 01:30, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

It is not the media it is the way the Senators are addressed in session, as described by themselves and there is a residency requirement so that they represent the state they are fromMasterknighted (talk) 03:02, 30 March 2014 (UTC). Prince Rupert Loewenstein

Thanks for starting Prince Rupert Loewenstein. I'm adding to the article and will nominate it for a DYK on or before the 27 May deadline. You will, of course, be credited. Edwardx (talk) 09:45, 25 May 2014 (UTC) Thank you and I appreciate your expansion and editing of it. Perhaps you could look at some of the other articles i have started maybe they also require expansion and perhaps could be nominated for dyk. Jack Craciun lll and George J. Wienbarg lll

A couple notes about this:

You may not have been aware of these deletions, since you seem to have created the pages using lowercase L's for Roman numerals. When writing Roman numerals, one uses the uppercase I (i), not lowercase L (l).

The lowercase L is also frequently used by spammers to "fool" people (e.g. "VlAGRA"). This is why these pages were so speedily deleted, because a deceptive use of the lowercase L is almost always a sign of spam, and is an enormous red flag for admins.

As for Peter Brant II, I simply renamed (moved) the page to have the correct spelling of the Roman numerals.

My physical proximity to the subjects has no bearing on anything, as does my edit frequency. Dmitry Brant (talk) 19:36, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Well I should perhaps then not have used the lower case but the earlier versions versus these , does not mean that there was not more sourced information this time, so that perhaps thinking that they were done by a spammer we could now retrace our steps and discuss. I appreciate your oversight. And I enjoyed reading your take on the google glassesMasterknighted (talk) 20:25, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Fortunately, Google cache still contains the non-deleted versions of these two pages.

Unfortunately, after looking at the sources on those pages, and cross-referencing with the deletion discussions, the sources don't appear to be any more improved (the commenters seem to have been aware of the same sources that you provide). Of course, you're welcome to re-create the original pages (with the correct numeral spelling), and have yet another deletion discussion. Dmitry Brant (talk) 20:52, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Like I was saying, please read the deletion discussions that have already taken place for those pages:

The participants were well aware of the sources. Some notable quotes from those discussions:

  • "Being related to someone famous is not notability"
  • "Worked at a station that won an award. OK, but that does not make you notable. Worked on a special that included celebrities. OK, but same answer. And so forth. Notability for the subject is not asserted."
  • "I see one trivial, passing reference in a book: Rock 'n' roll and the Cleveland connection (Page 239), but that is all. Not sufficient to meet WP notability requirements."

Once again, feel free to re-create the pages (under their original names), and recover the content that's in Google cache (linked earlier), and we can let the pages go through the normal deletion discussion again. Your contributions are, as always, valued and appreciated; but in these two cases, they simply don't seem to be meeting WP:BIO. Dmitry Brant (talk) 23:11, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Those sources were in the article that came down the first time not the one i wrote this was a different article with different sources which did not get a conversation because it was executed like a wife of Henry the Eighth without any appeal process. There were non notable elements in the first article ... This one dealt with the acting , his journalism for the Christian Post a widely read news source. his involvement with Hollywood sign ( sourced to the Washington Post) and The Buffalo Bill things plays in because the subject of the article made a documentary for the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody whose subject was his then 106 year old Aunt who was in turn Buffalo Bill 's nieceMasterknighted (talk) 14:04, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

If you feel that strongly about it, then you should probably contact the admin(s) who deleted the pages. I have no stake or influence in the matter. Dmitry Brant (talk) 14:57, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

OK, I have enjoyed our conversation after the circumstance did ariseMasterknighted (talk) 15:01, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Prince Rupert Loewenstein

Updated DYK queryOn 11 June 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Prince Rupert Loewenstein, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that despite being The Rolling Stones' business adviser and financial manager for nearly 40 years, Prince Rupert Loewenstein preferred the music of The Beatles? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Rupert Loewenstein. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Commas in Tony Gwynn

Regarding your removal of commas before "and" in list items such as this, MOS:SERIAL advises that there is no preference whether commas are used or not, as long as they are consistent. As you didn't leave an edit summary, I thought I'd drop a note here as I wasn't aware of your intention. I though it was (mostly) consistent in this article to include the comma. At any rate, I have no preference as long as it is consistent. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 18:53, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Venice Biennale may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Hashmat Karzai

Hello. This is a short article, and we know who it is. We don't need a reminder of his name every other sentence. When the article is extended, it will perhaps make sense to remind a forgetful reader of his name...Zigzig20s (talk) 19:40, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

It is just improper writing...He , he, he is not correct...Masterknighted (talk) 19:44, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
I disagree. We only need to know the full name once (well, twice: once in the lead, and then once at the beginning of the article). I suggest looking at some novels if you're not sure. We only say the full name again when other people or characters have just been mentioned, and there could be a confusion. But that's not the case here.Zigzig20s (talk) 19:51, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
