Venod Sharma (born 10 January 1948) is an Indian politician and the founder of Jan Chetna Party . Venod Sharma is a name that itself describes Indian Political legacy. He is a veteran political leader with more than 40 years of glorious political record. He is one political leader who has the distinction of serving in both the Central and state government. Sharma’s political career began in 1978 in Indian youth Congress. He held the position of General Secretary. During his tenure, the number of members of youth congress rose manifold, a reflection of his ability to manage organization. Sharma for the first time entered the electoral fray in the year 1980 when he contested the Banur Legislative Seat in Punjab. In the year 1980, he won this seat with a comprehensive margin and since then has never faced any electoral defeat.

A devoted grass root man, Venod Sharma is committed for development, fight against social injustice and progress of all sections of society. He has a great ability to inspire people. His innate knowledge of social problems makes him the foremost leader of the state, a leader who enjoys support of all the sections of society in Haryana.

Venod Sharma has served at various positions in Government of India and in Haryana Government. He was a Cabinet minister in P.V. Narasimha Rao’s government and was a MP from Rajya Sabha. He has also served at various positions in Congress party. Venod Sharma was the General Secretary of All India Youth Congress and Haryana Youth Congress. Later, he became the President of Youth Congress as well as the President of Congress Committee of Chandigarh. He also represented Ambala constituency as an MLA in Haryana.

Venod Sharma is known for his efforts to implement the Rights of citizens. He strongly believes in the dictum that change can bring wonders. He is a strong supporter of people's power. He is the person behind reservation for economically weak upper caste in Haryana. Venod Sharma has an impeccable record of clean leadership. He is a social reformer committed to eliminate corruption from all walks of life. He is an educated, dedicated, determined leader who is committed to provide good governance.

Personal Life

Venod Sharma is married to Smt. Shakti Rani Sharma and they have three children, two sons and one daughter. He strongly believes in giving back to the society. He has always been involved in many philanthropic activities across Haryana. He is working for the empowerment of women and known for fighting for the cause of the poor. Under the aegis of “Ambala Healthcare & Welfare Society”, Venod Sharma have been involved in many welfare activities like health camps, blood donation drives and eye check-up camps in Ambala region.
