Assistance with article
Hi, I need help with a deleted article. What do I need to do to get the article approved? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhedai19 (talk • contribs) 05:01, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, Jhedai19. I assume you're referring to Deo's Closet? I suggest that you go to requests for undeletion, where you can ask for the article to be userfied, that is, moved outside the "main" article space.
- After you do that, I suggest that you work on it and then submit it for review (add the code
{{subst:submit}}
to the top when you're ready). Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 05:21, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Policy/warnings on swearing
Is there a warning template for users who swear at you? Someone swore at me for proposing his article for speedy deletion (User talk:JoeKnuckley), and while I'm not traumatized by this, it seems like there aren't many resources regarding what to do when dealing with minor misconduct. Upjav (talk) 05:39, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- {{uw-npa1}} - it doesn't really address the swearing but the nature of the message. Hack (talk) 05:53, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Hack. Looks like that's appropriate. Upjav (talk) 06:05, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

- See the deletion discussion at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Skitzo. Basically they can't find reliable sources to show that you are important enough for an encyclopedia article. The threshold for inclusion is not just truth but also notability. —teb728 t c 08:00, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Why was my edit removed, though I provided proper sources?
I'm a new user and was very delighted to know that I too can contribute to Misplaced Pages. Upon my first edit itself, my addition was removed and I got a message saying, "...it appears to have added copyrighted material to Misplaced Pages without permission from the copyright holder..." I thought it was caused because I had not provided the source. So I edited it again by providing proper sources. But then I received another message which said, "There is currently a discussion at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you."
What does this mean? Is there anything I'm unaware of? Please help me regarding this issue, as I'm confused. I want to sure if I'm abiding by your rules. I'll be very grateful to contribute to Misplaced Pages for the welfare of all. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samuel Wesley (talk • contribs) 08:53, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- As for the copyright complaint, it has to do with this edit and possibly more where you directly copied right from the source. Selected quotes can be used but they should in quotation marks. Otherwise, the bulk of an article should be written in your own words with the references used as verification of what you've written.
- As for the ANI notice, the discussion is at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Copyright violations by Samuel Wesley. In my opinion, the other editor could have waited longer for you to reply to the copyright issue concerns that were pointed out to you before taking it to the noticeboard. But like I say, that's my opinion. And they could have helped you out, as the new editor that you are, by directing you to the specific discussion thread instead of directing you to the page with you having to figure out what it's all about. Dismas| 09:35, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- (after edit conflict) You were reverted because you have copied material without permission, not because it was not referenced. See Misplaced Pages:Close paraphrasing. You were reported to the Administrators notice board because you repeatedly reinserted the material without discussion. Administrators have the power to block you from editing, and will do if they believe you are going to continue with the same actions. I recommend that you follow the link to that discussion on your talk page and explain that you are not going to continue. Besisdes that issue, I think the material you inserted should be removed anyway. It is not from a scholarly source, and is riddled with neutrality isssues by expressing views in Misplaced Pages's voice rather than simply presenting encyclopaedic facts. Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/The Cure Parkinson's Trust
I have included what I had hoped was a correct citation to a medical journal - I used the Cite reference to 'journal' and entered all relevant details. The small text appears by the side of the report referred to in the text as the correct medical journal name but when clicked does not redirect the user to the said journal - please can you tell me what i am doing wrong?
Also, I have included special characters for URL's in my text but these appear in the saved article as the full URL - is there a way of this appearing as a smaller icon in the text - again what am I doing wrong here please :( BaileyBoo (talk) 12:32, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- I made this change - to your draft. Is this what you were looking for? Secondly, you should put the link to the external websites in a separate section at the bottom of the article, see WP:EL for more information. CaptRik (talk) 12:42, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have done some courtesy clean up per the manual of style.--ukexpat (talk) 13:16, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- BaileyBoo, I see in your draft you've un-done some of UKexpat's manual of style changes and put links to external sites in the main text of the article. Please note that this is not allowed, those links should be specific citations of content, a single link in an external links section, or not in the article at all. I would recommend addressing this when possible before submitting. Regards, CaptRik (talk) 13:48, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

How do I post a profile picture? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bennyboyjamin (talk • contribs) 13:24, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages isn't facebook, so you don't need to post a profile picture. If it's social networking you're after, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed here. However, you can add an image to your userpage by following the tutorials at Misplaced Pages:Images. You need to upload an image to Commons, and then embed it on your own userpage. Yunshui 水 13:38, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- If you are talking about an image to use in an article, there are a number of useful links at Misplaced Pages:Images. In particular you need to be careful to specify the copyright status of the image (which you did not do when you uploaded File:DannyW.jpeg). --David Biddulph (talk) 13:47, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

No Devotion Band
Hello,
Your page on the band No Devotion is incorrect. They are not a Welsh based band. There are 4 Welshmen (Lee Gaze, Stu Richardson, Jamie Oliver & Mike Lewis) 1 Englishman Luke Johnson who is from Ridditch, Birmingham - England & Geoff Rickly who is from New Brunswick, NJ - USA.
Currently half of them live in Los Angeles, CA (Luke Johnson, Jamie Oliver & Mike Lewis) Stu Richardson lives in Florida, Geoff Rickly lives in New York City, NY & Lee Gaze lives in London, England.
I spoke with Lee about this via twitter. You can view the conversation at this twitter link https://twitter.com/NoDevotionFans/status/492293580527263744. He feels the band is more international but if a simpler label is needed for the origin of the band then please mark it as British American as it covers all six of the band members.
Thank you, Alicia Founder - @NoDevotionFans — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.131.131.253 (talk) 15:33, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have removed "Welsh-based" from the article, as the references do not support this. Twitter is not regarded as a reliable source, so I have not added anything in its place. --ColinFine (talk) 22:56, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Recommend Article Creation
Is there a place on Misplaced Pages where a user can recommend that an article be created? The reason I'm asking is that I don't have the knowledge (or time) to do it myself, but there are some people/topics that should have an article on Misplaced Pages who currently do not. Image use
I know that this is spelled out clearly somewhere on Misplaced Pages, but I've been looking around for a while and can't seem to find the exact page. Could someone explain to me which licenses are acceptable for a photograph to be released under, in order for them to be uploaded to the Commons. I'm pretty sure that the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License is the ideal one, but are others acceptable? Thanks. --Jpcase (talk) 21:56, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jpcase: Hey Jpcase. Please see Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses. There's also Commons:Choosing a license and Commons:Copyright tags. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:23, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Fuhghettaboutit. I found an image on Flickr that I want to use, but it has been released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic license. So I couldn't use it unless I could get the photographer to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License, right? --Jpcase (talk) 22:47, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- That's not the only possibility, Jpcase, but it does have to be one that allows commercial use. --ColinFine (talk) 22:58, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

- Yes, as Colin says, that or under another compatible license but it can't be non-commercial (you can eliminate any license with the letters "NC" in it). Many free images with a compatible license at Flickr are under CC BY-SA 2.0. You can use any of CC-By-SA 1.0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 CC-By 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and CC-By-US 3.0 and of course, PD (public domain which under creative commons is CC0 1.0 Universal)--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:12, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot Fuhghettaboutit and ColinFine! This is starting to make a little more sense to me. I have a few more questions though:
- In "CC BY-SA" for example, the "CC" stands for "Creative Commons", right? And the "SA" stands for "ShareAlike"? What does the "BY" stand for though? All of the Creative Commons licenses have it in their abbreviated names, but none of them seems to have words that start with "B" or "Y" in their formal names.
- The GNU Free Documentation License; GNU General Public License; and Free Art License/Licence Art Libre would all be acceptable too, right? Are there multiple versions of these licenses that I should be aware of? --Jpcase (talk) 23:41, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jpcase: Apparently By stands for attribution. See here As for CC-By-US 3.0, see https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/us/ Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:15, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Fuhghettaboutit: Thank you again. But the other three licenses that I mentioned (which are all listed at Commons:Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses) - there aren't multiple versions of these licenses, are there? If I were to tell a photographer that they could release their photo under, say, The GNU Free Documentation License, would that be specific enough? Or would I have to say, (as a made up example), the GNU Free Documentation ShareAlike 2.0 License? --Jpcase (talk) 16:36, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Oh. I just realized that none of the GNU licenses are actually acceptable. But why were they listed in the first place then? --Jpcase (talk) 18:01, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- No one has mentioned the {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} license, which is probably the preferred choice now. It is the default if you upload to Commons, and accept the default. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sphilbrick (talk • contribs) 21:44, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
Gosh. Isn't there a clear, easy to use page listing out all of the licenses that are acceptable for the Commons? This seems far too complicated. Thanks for all of the help though. --Jpcase (talk) 21:54, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jpcase: The page I linked previously, Commons:Copyright tags contains a fairly complete list. For just CC, see its subsection on Free Creative Commons licenses. It will also tell you about just licensing under the GFDL (yes, but shouldn't be done). It also has a section on the Free Art License.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:53, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Fixing copyright issue
India Against Corruption has been completely blanked because of a "copyright" issue. In reality the only thing that is cited as copyright problematic is part of the first paragraph in this one section.
Based on the history of disruption of the page (there is a claim by a specific segment of the IAC movement that "IAC" refers solely to them and has insisted that the article must only cover them as the sole focus of the article) and so the placement of the template blanking the the entire article based on issues with a tiny portion of the article seems like a continuation of their purely disruptive tactics.
As such, the disruption should not be allowed to so significantly affect the article, but I cannot understand the instructions Misplaced Pages:Copyright_problems#Rewriting_content on how to address the issue so that the vast majority of the article which is not problematic can remain available to the readers.
Can anyone help explain the process?-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 07:21, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- As a first step, I have followed the instructions at {{Copyvio}} and arranged for only the offending paragraph to be blanked. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:35, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- I couldnt figure out how to do that either! thanks! -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 08:02, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
How do you remove incorrect cross-language links?
I wanted to remove the link from the English “Vaudeville” article to the French “Vaudeville” article, as their topic is not the same, despite the homonymy. Editing the links from the English article gave me the following warning: “The action you are about to take will remove a sitelink from this item. Sitelinks should only be removed if the page in question has been deleted, or if that link is being merged into another item. If you are trying to do neither of these, please do not submit this edit again.” Following that advice, I did not proceed with the edit.
However, I then tried the same on the French side, hoping the French-language warning would give me more information, but my edit was allowed without warning… The link from the French article to the English one has thus disappeared, which is what was intended, but, now, the English article doesn’t seem to have any cross-language links anymore, which was of course not intended—only the link to the French article should have been removed. I don’t know how to undo this, and I don’t understand what I did wrong. Can someone help fix this? And can someone tell me how I was supposed to handle this kind of case? Palpalpalpal (talk) 12:53, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Pal. It seems you edited the actual Wikidata item which linked all the "Vaudeville" articles in different languages, rather than the French article itself. Before you change anything, please clarify whether the English article is different from all the others or is the French article different? Green Giant (talk) 15:12, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- I took a quick look and it seems that the French "vaudeville" is different from the others so I have removed the French article from d:Q17855889 and added the English article to that entry so that now the English article shows the interlanguage links, but the French does not.--ukexpat (talk) 15:20, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for the fix to the English article. However, now, the links for all languages have disappeared from the French article. I can’t tell whether this is appropriate for languages that I can’t read at all, but, for instance, the German article should still be linked to from the French one, as it is about both the English meaning and the French meaning of vaudeville. Incidentally, through the German article, I discovered the existence of the English article “Comédie en vaudeville”, which corresponds to the French “Vaudeville” article. Thus the German article should link to both English articles, “Vaudeville” and “Comédie en vaudeville”. I fear this is not possible, am I wrong? Note that this is not the first time I encounter such a case, but I had no time to dig into it until now. Where can I find out more about that cross-language link system? Palpalpalpal (talk) 15:57, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- We cannot link the German article to both English articles. The German article should probably be split into two - one for each topic. I have added the French "vaudeville" to d:Q17084138 the Wikidata page for Comédie en vaudeville (and removed all the interlanguage links from that article) to fix the links between those two articles.--ukexpat (talk) 16:10, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. Anybody knows where can I find documentation about that link system? Palpalpalpal (talk) 12:23, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- About Wikidata? See WP:Wikidata and Wikidata.--ukexpat (talk) 13:35, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation pages and transliterations
I have been trying to sort out disambiguation for an Armenian painter who is known in Western Armenian transliteration as Hagop Hagopian. There exist Western and Eastern Armenian languages and they transliterate differently owing to different pronunciation of the same written letters.
In wiki, a search for Hagop Hagopian takes you to Hagop Hagopian the SALA fighter.
I eventually saw that Hagop Hagopian the painter has an entry already as Hakob Hakobian, which is the Eastern Armenian transliteration, so I tried to include that link in the heading of the article for Hagob Hagopian the SALA fighter.
It this point I discovered there is already a disambiguation page for Hakob Hakobian, which does not include Hagop Hagopian the fighter.
My questions
1) Should there simply be a disambiguation page for Hagop Hagopian, which can include all the Hagopians of note for Eastern Armenian speakers? I do not know how / am scared to set this up.
2) Should my edit on Hagop Hagopian's page be removed? or left until a disambiguation page for the Western Armenian transliterated names has been constructed.
Thank you for your help!
RiverStreetRiverStreet (talk) 12:53, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Whether or not Hagop Hagopian should be a disambiguation page depends on whether the guerilla fighter is considered the primary meaning. Can we say that one of these people is significantly more well known than the others? If so, they should have the main title with a hatnote pointing to a disambiguation page. If there is no one clearly more notable person (and I suspect this is the case), the disambiguation page should have the primary title. What is definitely wrong here, if what you say about transliteration is correct, is that Hakob Hakobian and Hagop Hagopian go to two different places. They should both go to the same article or the same disambiguation page, whichever is decided is more appropriate to have the main title. There should definitely not be two disambiguation pages for the same thing, one should redirect to the other. SpinningSpark 15:28, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- I was bold and renamed the fighter as Hagop Hagopian (guerilla). (If someone wants to disambiguate him in some other way, they can move the article, and "guerilla" will be preserved as a redirect.) I have created redirects to the disambiguation page for the alternate transliterations of the name. Do we need redirects for the alternate spellings of the painter and the poet? Robert McClenon (talk) 22:19, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- No, no one is going to type "Hagop Hagopian (painter)" in the search box and just "Hagop Hagopian" will take them to the disambiguation page where they will find what they are looking for. SpinningSpark 01:32, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- If there are any other variant transliterations of the name, then new redirects can be created to the disambiguation page. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:53, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

- As a general rule, deadlink references should not be removed unless they can be replaced with a source at least as good as the original. You can mark them with the template {{deadlink}}. There are a number of ways to recover deadlinks and leaving them in place gives editors who know how to do this a clue what to look for. In any case, the dead page remains the source of the information and the reference should be left in place. SpinningSpark 15:36, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- You could check the Internet Wayback Machine to see if the references were archived and then insert a link to the archived version if it exists. RJFJR (talk) 15:49, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

The American Civil War
Hello, was reading the pages on your site, about the American Civil War, found a huge discrepancy, as my linage, is directly tied to that war, my family fought, in that war, and the truth has been passed down from that war. Concerning the American Civil War, it is stated that the war was started over slavery, this is not true, the war, in fact, was started, over taxes, the slavery issue, was later added. In short, the civil war, started, when the North, decided to tax the South, 40 %, on all crops, , basically, TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. I ask you add this FACT. No matter how hard, some try, to cover up true history, the truth is well know, among those of us who have direct ties, to that war. We call it, the "meat grinder" and a horrible war it was. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.234.81.195 (talk) 20:10, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

- The lead section to the article states: "The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the war began." The causes are discussed in detail in the article with attributions to historians. The article talk page, Talk: American Civil War, is the place for discussion of whether the relative weight given to different causes should be revised. Nearly all Americans, as well as non-Americans who are familiar with the impact of the war, will agree that it was a horrible war. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:50, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Images disappeared
I have a strange problem where I can see images on Misplaced Pages, but not those from Commons. If I go to Commons I can see them okay. If I click on them I get "Warning: A file by that name has been deleted or moved." meaning that it has moved to Commons. How do I fix this? Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:54, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Please give some examples for us to check. The probable answer is that they have been deleted but your browser cache is holding an old version of the page. SpinningSpark 21:15, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

E.L. James photo
Hi there: Does anyone have any idea why the photo of E.L. James is not showing up on her page? In the infobox, I'm just seeing "File:E. L. James (cropped).jpg" in red letters. However, the photo used to show up, and it looks like it is still on Wikimedia Commons and no changes have been made recently . I'm stumped! Thanks. Safehaven86 (talk) 21:05, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

i have my article approved and published in wiki - now I wish to add a photo/info box to the right side of the page - what is the 1st thing I do Tvdockum (talk) 04:23, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Edit it then add the infobox to the top. Places to add images are often in infobox templates. CTF83! 07:48, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Tvdockum: The template that you're looking for, as CTF83! only just suggests, is Template:Infobox author. The template will have a place to put the image in to it. As far as uploading that image, and others, see Misplaced Pages:Image tutorial. That said, a lot of work is still needed for that article and I'm frankly surprised that Timtrent moved it into the main article space. Dismas| 13:34, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- The criteria for moving a draft to main namespace are very little to do with the additional work required to knock it into shape. They are, pretty much, the inverse of an AfD discussion. While I have often pushed a draft back for tidying work I make the judgement each time about whether the main namespace is the better place to do this. We neither expect nor require perfection from our new editors. We simply require articles which will probably survive a deletion discussion. So, Dismas, I thank you for your surprise. - The edits may have either been redacted or suppressed. These are two methods (also known, confusingly, for historical reasons, as REVDEL and OVERSIGHT) for removing edits from public view. The first can be done by any administrator. The second can be done only by a special group of functionaries. All of the edits that are struck through were to one article during one period, and an administrator removed the edits during that period from view because some of them were inappropriate, and should not be viewable even by viewing revision history. This does not imply that the edits by the OP were inappropriate, but that they may have been sandwiched between inappropriate edits. For more information on the removal of edits from public view, follow the links to the description. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:54, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- You didn't notice it previously because this was the first time that you edited an article that had to have this sort of special intervention applied. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:58, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

having neutrality of article checked
Hello, how do I go about having the neutrality of a recently posted article checked? It's heavily sourced from multiple sources, including many Misplaced Pages links for persons and places mentions; substantive language is quoted from other sources rather than asserted by the author. However, a note has appeared with possible questions about its neutrality. I'm not sure how to go about resolving this. Thanks very much! Swoodard2 (talk) 14:42, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Swoodard2, it would really help if you told us which article you're referring to. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:36, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- In which case, it would be easier to check the article if the multiple uses of the same reference were tidied up. I can see one used 9 times separately. Worth looking at Help:Footnotes#Footnotes: using a source more than once. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:43, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
University of Skövde
Hello!
I work at the International Office of Högskolan i Skövde (University of Skövde, in English). I would like to request the change of the name of the University of Skövde on University of Skövde because it is still wrong. Skövde University College is wrong.
There is a reference # 1 on the bottom of the page, but if you read the information on the link available in the reference, you will see that the name of the university available on UHR's webpage is University of Skövde! Please remove the name Skövde University College at the beginning of the page University of Skövde and Reference 1.
Thanks in advance.

An addition to the article on Saint Ambrose, which was submitted for review.
I submitted an addition to the article on Saint Ambrose for review on the views of Saint Ambrose in regard to the poor on 7/8/2014, with a possible revision on 7/11/2014 (most likely it was just a resubmissionBalenceinall (talk) 17:21, 4 September 2014 (UTC) of the same exact article on 7/11/2014). I have not noticed any response in the article on Saint Ambrose or in my sandbox or in the talk pages in which I also stated that I was submitting the article for review. When can I expect some response? My username is balenceinall.
- This must about Balenceinal's contribution to the talk page of the article on Ambrose. Maproom (talk) 17:41, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I see that you submitted a suggestion at Talk:Ambrose on 12 July. Nobody has commented, so I would suggest that you go ahead and try adding the content to the article. If anyone objects then it can be discussed further. Your sandbox is something that wasn't submitted for review, so I wouldn't have expected anyone to comment there. Looking at your sandbox further I see that you had tried on a number of occasions to submit it for review, but without success. The reason for the failure is that you have an unterminated reference. You have an opening <ref> tag, and everything from there until a closing </ref> tag is taken to be part of the reference. You don't have that closing tag, so the submission tags weren't processed. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:44, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Looking further, I see that you also have misformatting within your references, which is why they are not showing properly. You have opened with a "{{ citation", but not closed with a "}}". --David Biddulph (talk) 17:52, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Dates on information given in Misplaced Pages
Why is no date given on information added, provided etc in Misplaced Pages? This is a problem generally with all information given on the Internet. One never knows is something is new or old. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.172.141.132 (talk) 17:54, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- In general an encyclopedia should not include information that will rapidly become outdated. Potentially dated statements can be marked with the template {{as of}}. If you look at the history of an article you can see when it was last updated, and within the history the option "Revision history search" will invoke the Wikiblame tool to enable you to find out when (and by whom) a particular item of text was added to the article. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:01, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
How to write about someone on wikipedia
Hi, There are many famous personalities which are not yet covered on wikipedia. i want to know the procedure of how can we or anyoneone write about them.
Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.104.32.254 (talk) 20:22, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- The first thing would be to open an account. It is free and more anonymous than editing via IP.
- Next you should read the Cliffs Notes version of what is required for something to be the subject of a stand alone Misplaced Pages article. :Then, if you have access to the published sources necessary, then you can try the Misplaced Pages:Article wizard or the articles for creation process.
- If you dont want to create an account, you can make suggestions via the "request an article" process - which is more likely to be acted upon if you are also able to provide links and sources.

Disappeared page
Hi, I'm tearing my hair out, so any help gratefully received! I was working on expanding Gesta pontificum Anglorum on 2nd Sept. I was referring to Gesta Regum Anglorum whilst doing so. Both are important medieval texts written by William of Malmesbury I have come back today to finalise my draft edits and Gesta Regum Anglorum seems to have disappeared and is redirecting back to William of Malmesbury. I can't find any trace of it in deleted pages logs or any of the page histories or discussion pages?! Now going slightly mad and wondering if it was ever there, but it definitely was. Can anyone help me establish if it has been moved/deleted and why? - this is a bit beyond me, but if it can be restored (if there was no adequate reason for its removal) without me having to recreate the page that would be preferable! Irisbox (talk) 13:10, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
The edit history of Gesta pontificum Anglorum shows that it was directed William of Malmesbury on 27 February 2007.It seems to have been fixed as I was typing. Quite how, is also beyond me. Maproom (talk) 13:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)- I think you mean Regum, not pontificum, illustrating my point below about confusion! Pontificum has been an article since 2010. Regum has been a redirect since 2007 and that hasn't changed at all, not even when you were typing. Bencherlite 13:28, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- The history says that the redirect from Gesta Regum Anglorum was generated on 27 Feb 2007, and (as you say) there is no record of anything earlier in the deletion log. I see that your Misplaced Pages account was created only 18 months ago, so when do you think that you were looking at an unredirected Gesta Regum Anglorum? - David Biddulph (talk) 13:26, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- (after multiple edit conflicts) Gesta Regum Anglorum has been a redirect to Billy Malmesbury's article since 2007 and there are no deletions in its history (as an admin, I can see deleted edits, but there are none to see here). I can only think that you have misremembered, thinking there was an article about GRA when there was only ever a redirect, perhaps getting momentarily confused with this or that. Of course, you know what your next challenge is... to turn GRA from a redirect into an article! Bencherlite 13:28, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe you were thinking of Historia Regum Britanniae? Maproom (talk) 13:31, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Aha! That does look familiar! Thank you! Although GRA is linked to on Malmesbury's page, which then redirects back to itself so I guess the link must have been added before the redirect and that's why i'm confused! It has been a long week... I'll get busy making an article about GRA as well in that case, thought it best to check there wasn't any sort of weird vandalism going on. Hopefully doing so will result in something conflict free that won't end up being redirected again though! Thank you all for your help!Irisbox (talk) 13:50, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Order of precedence between ANI and DRN
If an issue has been raised more or less simultaneously, by different editors, at both WP:ANI and WP:DRN which process takes priority? Should the lower priority process be stopped/suspended until the other process has concluded or should it simply be closed as moot/redundant? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:46, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- ANI and DRN are supposed to deal with different issues: ANI is for requests for admins to deal with user behaviour, DRN for resolution of content disputes. As soon as the behavioural issue is resolved at ANI, resolution of the content dispute should be deferred to DRN.--ukexpat (talk) 17:01, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- OK so first deal with the ANI case, let the DRN issue wait. The issue concerns an editor pushing a fringe political agenda against consensus. If the ANI case determines that misbehavior has taken place and the editor gets sanctioned, the DRN issue becomes moot anyway. Is that correct? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:27, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- DRN is voluntary and non-binding. ANI can be binding. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:31, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- I know that, but it doesn't answer the question. Should the DRN process be stopped/suspended until after the ANI process is completed? Yes or No. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:56, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I would say no. ANI will not rule on content disputes, so the dispute will still exist, and need resolving, whatever ANI do to the fringe editor. Of course, if they block him/her it may be necessary to postpone the DRN until the block expires so the editor can actually take part, otherwise you will be resolving nothing. AFRICA FASHION WEEK LONDON
Africa Fashion Week London (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to bring to your immediate attention the following information regarding Africa fashion Week London. Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) was founded in 2011 by Founder Ronke Ademiluyi and her brother Co – Founder Kamari Ademiluyi. Africa Fashion Week London is a platform that celebrates London’s unique and diverse cultural heritage, topped with the flamboyant mixing of Western and African culture through fashion, at the same time promoting Africa’s rich ethnic culture and interpreting it into contemporary design.
Africa Fashion Week London is also leading the drive in putting the ‘FUN INTO FASHION’, with designers who are influence by African patterns. Please check out our website www.africafashionweeklondon.com. Ps. We have NOTHING TO DO WITH Africa fashion Week New York nor Adiree as currently mentioned in wiki – ‘Africa Fashion Week (London) is produced by Adireé Fashion Agency, partners and sponsors to bring African designers to the fashion capital of London.’ YES we AFWL handed out flyers in Westfield in 2012, YES we are an annual event, YES we have collaboration with Africa Fashion Week Sweden and Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam which we attended this year 2014, but We are not produced by or have any association with Adiree nor Africa Fashion Week NewYork.
Our history of events are :
- Africa Fashion Week London 2011 - 1st Edition – The Gibson Hall, 13 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 3BA.
- Africa Fashion Week London 2012 – 2nd Edition – Spitalfields Market, 16 Horner Square, Spitalfields, London E1 6EW.
- Africa Fashion Week London 2013 – 3rd Edition – The Old Truman Brewery - Ely's Yard, 15 Hanbury Street, London E1 6QR.
- Africa Fashion Week London 2014 – 4th Edition – Olympia Kensington - Hammersmith Road, Kensington, London W14 8UX.
Kindly change this on Wiki as our fans, clients and customers are confused as to why there is different information on our website – www.africafashionweeklondon.com and wiki.

Robert Henri - Eulabee Dix in Wedding Gown image
I am with the Museum of Nebraska Art and noticed the image of Eulabee Dix on your site and am wondering if there is anyway to credit our Museum as we hold the original painting, here is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/Eulabee_Dix The work has been in our permanent collection since 1978 and would greatly appreciate it if we could be credited. Please let me know if there is anything else you need or if I can provide any further information. I not used Misplaced Pages too much and did not readily see where I can add that information myself.

- Misplaced Pages does not place credits in article space. Click on the photo for the "credit" information associated with the image. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:40, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- As far as I know the current ownership or location of the original of a copyright expired artwork is not relevant to the publication of photographs of the work. The file page on Wikimedia Commons does not include any mention of the Museum of Nebraska Art. There is no reason why the image could not be included in the article about the Museum of Nebraska Art with a suitable caption. However, given your conflict of interest you should not be the one who adds it to that page. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:51, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
- I added the painting to the article's Collection section. 65.210.65.16 (talk) 18:01, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Joust Videogame
Thank you help desk. Please see my inquiry below
Good evening. My name is Lonnie McDonald I hold multiple World Records in the Videogame Joust. A quick search on my name :Lonnie McDonald Joust on Google will reveal my expertise.
I am also close personal friends with the original Joust Development team and have direct contact with them on a continual basis.
I noticed that there seems to be an ongoing battle about Joust information.
As I am arguably the premier expert on Joust Who can you tell me who decides what content is kept or decided what is included.
I have noted that major sections have been deleted.
Have a great day!

- Content decisions are determined by the consensus of the Misplaced Pages editors based on Misplaced Pages's content policies which include verifiability of content as having been published in a reliable source and not editor's interpretation or personal knowledge and whether or not the content is presented in a neutral point of view and represents the mainstream academics view of the subject and is not too little or too large emphasis on any particular item. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:23, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Joust Videogame
This is my second post.
I have read your response to the first.
As I see it by your wiki standards 1. If a known expert gives you testimony you don't care 2. If the developer gives you information you don't care
It seems you decided subjectively what you think the documentation can and should be. ... And from viewing other sources what you choose is not clear cut in every situation.
I would like to speak to the presumed subject matter expert that believes this an acceptable method of preveying the truth to the public. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A601:803:1401:C187:6BE4:73:EAF8 (talk) 04:00, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- We don't do "presumed subject matter expert". Instead, we draw on reliable, neutral third-party sources who do not have a conflict of interest. The developer of the game obviously has a grave conflict of interest. A champion in that particular game has a subtler but no less profound conflict of interest. Books and magazines are less likely to fall prey to the biases which inevitably affect us when we discuss something dear to us. --Orange Mike | Talk 04:14, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Joust question 3
I have read your 2 responses.
I completely disagree with your sourcing.
If you went to a legal case and sited an expert or developer your information would be great evidence. Articles and others farther from the source of the truth are worth far less as evidence.
So you are subjectively accepting minimal information by not using subject experts.
Yes I am considered a legal expert in many subjects. Who on Wiki is? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A601:803:1401:C187:6BE4:73:EAF8 (talk) 06:16, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, user with an IPV6. Like almost everything on Misplaced Pages, our procedures and criteria are determined by consensus. If you think these can be improved, you are welcome to try and change the consensus - but do it by argument, not by going against the current consensus. The best place to do that would be at one of the departments of the Village pump - probably, the 'proposals' section, but the 'policy' section is worth looking at as well. .
- The reason for our current rules, as I understand it, is that since Misplaced Pages may be edited by anybody, there is always the possibility of mistake, bias, or deliberate misinformation in our articles. The user's protection against this is that we require everything to be referenced to a reliable published source. (Yes, this is an ideal: we are aware that there is plenty of material which is not so referenced, and falls short of our ideals: this is another consequence of having an open, collaborative project. But some of us do our best to rectify that when we find it, are at least mark it to warn readers that the material is unreferenced). If we took material just because you, or any other expert, said it was so, then a random reader tomorrow, or next month, or in five years time, would have no way of determining whether it was correct.
- And yes, we are also aware that sometimes published reliable sources get it wrong, or are out of date. This is a problem, but our consensus has settled that verifiability, not truth is the goal. Again, you may try to change that consensus if you wish, but I don't think you will be very successful. See perennial proposals. --ColinFine (talk) 07:48, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Donations
I am a regular donor to Misplaced Pages, but I still get the Donations banner on my screen each time I am using Misplaced Pages. How can I stop this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.161.103.77 (talk) 00:58, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- You can dismiss it. I'm going to guess since you have an IP, perhaps it changes depending on where you get on the internet, so if you create an account, it should fix the problem. CTF83! 01:09, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
could someone please fix a page? (list of top gear episodes)
hello, this http://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_Top_Gear_episodes page is a mess, someone made a mistake in the syntax. i tried to find the mod so i can revert it, but no luck. the problem is at the section "series 2": -there is a text under the section: "{{Episode list/sublist|List of Top Gear episodes" -the episode number 16 (series 2 episode 6) has an extra cell AND ALL the data before seems could not be parsed by the engine — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.165.211.238 (talk) 01:05, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- It actually has to be edited at Top Gear (series 2). I just reverted the last user's edit and fixed it. I couldn't figure out what they did wrong. CTF83! 01:13, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Fair Use Licensing Issue
Hello, I just recently used Wikimedia and Misplaced Pages to upload an image to Wikimedia Commons about Paul Frank. When I was uploading the image it was properly licensed as Creative Commons however I didn't realize that it went against the "Fair Use" regulations. I was wondering if I should remove the image. Please let me know what to do, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arios21 (talk • contribs) 01:14, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- The image is fine according to Misplaced Pages:Upload/Flickr. Your upload looks fine to me, you properly attributed it to the source, as required by the original uploader. CTF83! 01:24, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Arios21: while the image itself has a proper license, the fact that the image consists of primarily copyright images is likely an issue. you might want to discuss with some subject matter experts at Misplaced Pages:Copyright_problems. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:42, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Page view stats down
Why have page view stats been down for last 4 days ? eg http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Psychopathy --Penbat (talk) 06:31, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- stats.grok.se is run by a single volunteer editor on his own initiative but is frequently behind, down or missing dates. There is an alternative tool run by the Wikimedia Foundation at https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikiviewstats/. Last I heard (some time ago) they said it was still being tested and they didn't recommend linking it from page histories yet but it seems to currently work well, at least for my test on Psychopathy. Interlanguage link bug
Hello, I just translated an article from French Misplaced Pages into English. I tried to add an interlanguage link but it comes up with an error box saying "An unexpected error occurred: $1.". When I click "Details", it says "Invalid token". I tried adding the link from both the English page and from the French page, but the error is the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AKRowe (talk • contribs) 07:53, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- interlanguage linking is done via WP:Wikidata-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:13, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- The described error occurred when I used the "Add links" link to wikidata under "Languages" as you are supposed to (it now says "Edit links" because there already is the link I added). PrimeHunter (talk) 11:19, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- I got the same error from the English page Un fou and didn't try the French fr:Un fou (nouvelle, 1885) but was able to do it under "Misplaced Pages pages linked to this item" at wikidata:Q16681742. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:04, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Lost password email never arrives
I have a Misplaced Pages account (it's asciident) associated with my Gmail address. I've forgotten the password. When I use the lost password/reset self-service, I enter my email address and receive the confirmation message "A password reset email has been sent." The email never arrives. Not in inbox, not in spam, nowhere. I've tried on a number of occasions spanning years at this point. I guess I could just create another account, but I'd like to understand why the email is never arriving. Thanks. 97.95.213.239 (talk) 10:40, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Are you sure it's the address stored in the account? A wrong address also gives the message "A password reset email has been sent." I think that's for privacy reasons to prevent other people from examining whether an email address has an account. Misplaced Pages:Village pump (technical)/Archive 129#Gmail labelling Misplaced Pages email suspicious mentions a problem for some email services including Gmail, but I don't think it goes back years. Creating a new account is OK. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:34, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think you ever registered an email address with that username (it's not a requirement of having an account). I say this because I don't get the 'Email this user' option when viewing that userpage which is usually between Logs and Upload in the 'Tools' section on the left. Of course, you might have turned that off in the accounts user prefs but I doubt it. Nanonic (talk) 12:05, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Joust question 4
I have read all three responses.
I understand your thinking. Many times in creating curriculum for courses we must site evidence. You may also agree as a community that a source is a subject matter expert.
Regardless, my original concern was the mass deletion of information.
I request that the community look over the recent deletion of the Joust sections on Game play and 30th Anniversary and see if the information is should be placed back in the wiki on Joust.
The information is verifiable through many online sources.
Thanks. Also please look at the legal rules of evidence as I described. I believe it will assist many in legally verifing information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.195.4.213 (talk) 12:39, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Please stop opening new sections every time you reply, we like to keep conversations together. Misplaced Pages is not a court of law and legal rules of evidence are completely irrelevant. We have our own guidelines. We can explain those guidelines to you on this help desk, but they do not get made or altered here as already explained to you. We do not accept unpublished material from claimed experts becaause there is no process in place for verifying editors identities, and any such process would conflict with our privacy policy in any case. Again, that is not something for arguing to change on the help desk. SpinningSpark 12:50, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Delete a Profile
Hi there Misplaced Pages!
Hope you're having a good weekend so far. How can I delete a profile (article)? I would like to delete the profile (article) of Michael Levine.
Thank you for your help, Cczeto (talk) 14:35, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- What do you mean? Michael Levine is a disambiguation page and there can be no good reason for deleting that. If you mean Michael Levine (author), a page you have edited in the past, then you will need to explain why you want it deleted. See Misplaced Pages:Deletion policy for what we consider valid reasons for deletion. See Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion for the deletion process. SpinningSpark 14:56, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Cczeto: And if you are considering it a "profile", you probably have a grave misconception of what Misplaced Pages is and what is appropriate. Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia and has "articles" that reflect the mainstream academic consensus of the subject, not a CV and not something the subject has any control over. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:38, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Okay, sorry ... didn't mean to call it a profile ... meant to say "article." I don't have "grave misconception" (why the condescending words?) I was just asking and sorry again for using the wrong word(s), didn't mean that at all. Yes, Michael Levine (author), I inserted the wrong link. I will look at the Deletion policy.
Thank you again for your help I greatly appreciated it, Cczeto (talk) 18:06, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Creative Commons question
I want to upload a Flickr image that is labeled as Creative Commons Attribution + Noncommercial + No Derivatives, but there isn't an option for this on the upload page. Does Misplaced Pages not allow No Derivatives uploads? DavidSSabb (talk) 15:58, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Joust 5
I see no way of linking these messages using my iPhone. So you will have to accept my apologies. 1. I asked that the deletions be examined by the group Wiki- not address When will I get an answer ? Thank you
2. I explained the laws of evidence Wiki explained they don't care about legal evidence. If wiki claims to have expert referencing material on the WwW Then it most certainly is accountable to legal evidence.
If it claims it is not I bet someone will eventually challenge that in a law suit. I respectfully lsuggest as a group that this is brought before the powes that be for review.
3. I have asked who your subject matter expert is. Wiki No answer I repeat it. Who is Wikis expert? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.195.4.213 (talk) 16:36, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- 1) Misplaced Pages article content, help desk, etc are run by volunteers. Someone will answer you when someone who knows the answer sees your question and has time to respond.
- 2) No "Laws of evidence" apply at Misplaced Pages, we are not a court. We are governed by our policies , one of which is that people who threaten or imply legal action may not participate in Misplaced Pages while such threats / actual suits are open.
- 3) see number 1. Misplaced Pages does not recognize claims of "experts". We base our content on what "experts" have published. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:14, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- and note that communication is easier if you create an account. It is free and more anonymous than editing via an IP. People will be able to communicate on your page, and you will receive notifications when someone mentions your name, and you can create a watchlist to see when pages you are interested in have been edited by others. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:21, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
and the way to "connect" conversations is to click the after the section header. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:29, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
creating article and images

- Hello, and yes, you can create an article!
- But you should first make sure that the subject of the article meets the basic requirements for a stand alone encyclopedia article: that non-related parties, with a reputation for fact checking and accuracy have considered the subject worthy of note and discussion.
- If you have such sources like published books or major newspaper articles, I would then suggest you follow the "articles for creation" process. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:10, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. There is not an edit on iPhone mobile platform
I will wait for an answer on why the content was deleted. I would guess it shows who deleted it and why ...somewhere correct?
As to legal, I simply told you the facts. Whether Wiki chooses to abide by common legal rules of evidence is Wikis choice as are the potential ramifications that one might point out. Neither was a threat. Just facts
