Russian - Ukrainian tank battle near Mariupol - took place east of Mariupol, south east Ukraine, on Friday morning, September 5, 2014, just 8 hours before the ceasefire treaty was signed in Minsk later same day.

7 tanks (T-64 type) of Ukrainian armed forces faced in heroic battle 30 tanks (T-80 type) of advancing Russian Army, that starting from August 24th invaded the Novoazovsk Raion of Ukraine to the east. Ukrainians withheld the attack but lost 4 tanks and retreated with the 3 remaining tanks to the army checkpoint on the outskirts of Mariupol, where they were met by the Ukrainian journalist Sergiy Karazy who reported the event. The commander of Ukrainian tank brigade was in the state of post-shock state but they were going to return to battlefield, loading the ammunition in the surviving 3 tanks.
