Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was an Indian television soap opera which premiered on Sony Entertainment Television India on 30 May 2011. It was broadcast Monday to Thursday evenings. It was also broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television Asia. The soap opera was based on the play Patrani, by Imtiaz Patel and was created by Ekta Kapoor with her production company Balaji Telefilms.

The name of the show, along with the title track, was inspired by a song of the same name, composed by R.D. Burman, from the 1976 Bollywood film Balika Badhu.

The show explored the worlds of its protagonists Priya Sharma and Ram Kapoor, who accidentally discover love after they get married. The soap opera starred actors Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor in the lead roles. After the story moved five years ahead in June 2012, many new actors and characters, including Samir Kochhar and Amrita Mukherjee who played the roles of Rajat Kapur and Peehu respectively, were introduced.

The show became one of the most watched shows of 2011, helping propel the Sony Entertainment Television India network to number two in the rankings. However, in early January 2013 the show's Television Rating Point (TRP) went down to 2.3. Bade Achhe Lagte Hain telecasted its last episode (episode number 644) on 10 July 2014

Plot

Ram Kapoor is a well reputed, rich and powerful businessman in Mumbai in his early 40s. Priya Sharma, who happens to be in her late thirties, comes from a middle-class family. She is sensible, philosophical and more mature than Ram. At the beginning they used to dislike each other.Both were unmarried.Ram's stepsister Natasha and Priya's brother Kartik love each other and they want to get married so there marriage had been fixed by the families.But Kartik wanted to get his sister Priya married first. To solve this problem Ram agrees to Marry Priya. After marriage Ram and Priya began to respect and love each other and consummate their marriage.Ram and Priya face so many hurdles.Ram and Priya even got separated but destiny has always reunited them.As time passes several antagonists are introduced like at the beginning Ram's stepmother Niharika, her brother Shiney Talwar, her son and Ram's stepbrother Siddhant, Priya's ex-fiance Ashwin Khanna, Priya's sister Ayesha and then Priya's friend Juhi and her ex-husband Rajeev also transform into negative character are introduced. The narrative moves between discontinuous time periods.The story takes time leaps after that some focus is on Ram and Priya's grown-up children's life, their love stories are showcased.

However, finally Ram and Priya's love wins and they succeed in removing all hurdles from their life. And they live happily ever after, with their family.

Production

The programme was intended to run for 150 episodes but as its TRPs (Television Rating Program) and popularity increased the show went on till it completed 3 years and 2 months.

Shooting

Most of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was shot in Mumbai. Fifteen episodes of the show (Episode 102-Episode 117) were filmed in Sydney, Australia in late 2011, the city was the honeymoon destination of Ram and Priya. The show had a partnership with Tourism Australia and received support from Destination New South Wales, Sony Entertainment Television India and Balaji Telefilms.

During the summer of 2012, Ekta Kapoor introduced a five-year leap in the narrative. After this leap, the story consisted of 36 episodes shot in Dubai before returning to India. Episodes 235 to 270 were filmed in Dubai in mid-2012 to show the leap. The shooting in Dubai was in partnership with Binali Tourism LLC and Shreenathji Holidays. These episodes showed Priya living with her five year old daughter Peehu in the city until she has to return to Mumbai. The production team failed to obtain the correct permits to shoot in Dubai and had to briefly stop shooting until the paperwork was processed. Some shooting was also done in Jaipur to show a six-month leap.

Music

The title track of the soap opera, was inspired by the song of the same name as the soap opera, composed by R.D. Burman, from the 1976 Bollywood film, Balika Badhu. Some of the lyrics of the song were same as those of the original song. The melody remained same but the rest of the lyrics were changed by lyricist Nawab Arzoo. The music was provided by Lalit Sen and was sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Trijayh Dey.

The incidental or the background music for the soap opera was provided by Abhishek Singh and Mintu Jha.

Dubs and rebroadcasts

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was dubbed in Telugu and broadcast on Gemini TV. The first episode was broadcast on 9 April 2012 as Nuvvu Nachhavu, an afternoon soap opera. The show ended its run on Gemini TV on 31 August 2012 after 205 episodes. Bade Achhe Lagte Hain has also been dubbed in Tamil and airs on Polimer TV. It began broadcasting on 10 December 2012 as Ullam Kollai Poguthada with some of the characters' names changed.

Accolades

Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor won the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award while Ekta Kapoor won the Best Producer award. The show also won the Kalakar Award for the Best Serial. In addition, the show has won six Indian Television Academy Awards, two Global Indian Film and Television Honours, three Star Guild Awards, five Indian Telly Awards, three FICCI Frames Excellence Honours and two People's Choice Awards,
