Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is an Indian television soap opera which premiered on Sony Entertainment Television India and Sony Entertainment Television Asia, simultaneously on 30 May 2011. Bade Achhe Lagte Hain telecasted its last episode (episode number 644) on 10 July 2014. Based on the play Patrani, by Imtiaz Patel, the soap opera was created by Ekta Kapoor along with her production company Balaji Telefilms. The name of the show, along with the title track, was inspired by a song of the same name, composed by R.D. Burman, from the soundtrack of the 1976 Bollywood film Balika Badhu.

Plot

Ram Kapoor (Ram Kapoor) is a well reputed, rich and powerful businessman in his early 40s. Priya Sharma (Sakshi Tanwar), who happens to be in her late thirties, comes from a middle-class family. She is sensible, philosophical and more mature than Ram. The story begins when Ram's younger step sister Natasha (Sumona Chakravarti) and Priya's younger brother Kartik (Mohit Malhotra), who fall in love with each other. Kartik does not think he should marry before his older sister marries. To solve this problem, Ram agrees to marry Priya to allow Kartik and Natasha marry. Initially, Ram and Priya dislike each other but as time passes and they spend more time with one another and they begin to respect and love each other. However, their relationship remains difficult—every time Priya and Ram grow closer, problems arise and drive them apart. As the story progresses, several antagonists are introduced and the narrative moves between discontinuous time periods.

However, finally Ram and Priya's love wins and they succeed in removing all hurdles from their life. And they live happily with their family ever after.

Cast

Production

The programme was intended to run for 150 episodes but as its TRPs (Television Rating Program) and popularity increased the show went on till it completed a run of 3 years and 2 months.

Shooting

Most of the shooting of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was done in India. Only fifteen episodes of the show (episode 102 - 117) were filmed in Australia in late 2011; the city was the honeymoon destination of Ram and Priya. The show had a partnership with Tourism Australia and it also received support from Destination New South Wales, Sony Entertainment Television India and Balaji Telefilms.

During the summer of 2012, Ekta Kapoor introduced a five-year leap in the narrative. After this leap, the story consisted of 36 episodes shot in Dubai, UAE before returning to India. Episodes 235 to 270 were filmed in Dubai in mid-2012 to show the leap. These episodes showed Priya (Sakshi Tanwar) living with her five year old daughter Peehu (Amrita Mukherjee) in the city until she has to return to Mumbai. The production team failed to obtain the correct permits to shoot in Dubai and had to briefly stop shooting until the paperwork was processed.

Music

The title track of the soap opera, was inspired by the song of the same name as the soap opera, composed by R.D. Burman, from the 1976 Bollywood film, Balika Badhu. Except the lyrics the melody remained same. Few new lyrics were added to the song by Nawab Arzoo. The title track was sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Trijayh Dey and the music was provided by Lalit Sen.

Dubs and rebroadcasts

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was dubbed in Telugu and broadcast on Gemini TV. The first episode was broadcast on 9 April 2012 as Nuvvu Nachhavu, an afternoon soap opera. The show ended its run midway on 31 August 2012 after airing 105 episodes. Bade Achhe Lagte Hain has also been dubbed in Tamil and airs on Polimer TV.
