The 2014 World Series will be the 110th edition of Major League Baseball's championship series. The best-of-seven playoff will be played between the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals. The start date of October 21, 2014 is the first scheduled Tuesday start day for a World Series since 1990. Kansas City will either face the St. Louis Cardinals whom they defeated in the 1985 World Series, or the San Francisco Giants whom they have defeated in a every series in interleague play.
The Kansas City Royals will have home field advantage for the series as a result of the American League's 5–3 victory in the All Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 15. The World Series will be televised in the USA on Fox.
The Royals are making their third World Series appearance. They defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games in 1985, which was the last time they were in the postseason, and lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in six games in 1980. They enter the series having beaten the A's in the Wild Card game and sweeping the Angels and the Orioles in the ALDS and the ALCS respectively.
