Page moves

  1. Please don't move articles on the Main page unless they are wrong, it breaks stats.
  2. Please check first what made people decide on an article title, in this case that WAB is too little known to be the only dab for Bruckner's work, - different from K. for Mozart and BWV for Bach. (Recent discussion on Classical music, look for Schubert, whose D catalogue was also not found enough of a dab.)
  3. I reverted you, partly. Ave Maria (Bruckner) is THE Ave Maria that people think of, only the others need a number. I left WAB 5 and 7, but only for lack of time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:09, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Jesus talk page editnotice

Hi David, I just wanted to ask a favour: as you may or may not be aware at Talk:Jesus we have had a lot of complaints recently because Facebook's page categorises our saviour as a "fictional character". Since this has nothing to do with us another editor and I wish to create an editnotice about it at the talk page, but since I'm not an administrator I can't. I wonder if you might consider putting an editnotice about this at Template:Editnotices/Page/Talk:Jesus for us? I was thinking something along the following lines:

Facebook's labelling of Jesus as a "fictional character" has nothing to do with Misplaced Pages.
Several editors have previously asked to have this changed. Since it has no connection with Misplaced Pages or its contributors please do not ask or start a section about this; doing so is pointless and inflates the size of this page unnecessarily. Please contact Facebook instead.

Thanks and I hope you are well. Congratulations by the way about getting Not My Life scheduled for the main page. —  Cliftonian (talk)  17:17, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks —  Cliftonian (talk)  08:49, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi again David, I'm writing again about ; Facebook have altered their page, so it's no longer necessary. Do you think you can please take the editnotice down for me? Thanks and I hope you are doing well. —  Cliftonian (talk)  19:51, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Cheers again. If we don't talk again before the big day, have a very Merry Christmas :) —  Cliftonian (talk)  08:43, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Oh, for pity's sake— they've gone back to "fictional character". I'm sorry to bother you again but do you think we could put the editnotice back up? —  Cliftonian (talk)  04:12, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

List of islands of North Korea listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect List of islands of North Korea. Since you had some involvement with the List of islands of North Korea redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. - TheChampionMan1234 07:39, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

FT credit line

For Misplaced Pages:Misplaced Pages Signpost/2014-11-26/Featured content, does (nominated by Neelix, with initial work by M.K.) seem like a reasonable credit line? You certainly did the work responding, and deserve credit, but you credit M.K. for the initial work, so I didn't want to leave him or her out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adam Cuerden (talkcontribs)

No worries. There'll be a longer description in the Signpost, of course - it's usually better to check things before you publish, after all - and if there's a good image, I'll try to fit that in as well. Adam Cuerden 23:50, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
...Say, do you speak Lithuanian by any chance? Because if we could get higher-resolution images of File:Signatarai.Signatories of Lithuania.jpg or File:Jonas Basanavicius (1851-1927).jpg or, really, most of the stuff they offered, I bet it would pass at featured picture. Adam Cuerden 00:30, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Back on topic, any obvious errors in this summary?

In the closing years of First World War, Lithuania, which had been part of the Russian Empire, found itself invaded by Germans. Paradoxically, this was, on the whole, a good thing for Lithuania: Lithuania had been trying to gain independence for years, and Germany didn't want to upset the Russians by merely grabbing their territory, but could form an alliance with an independent Lithuania. They allowed the Vilnius Conference on independence, hoping that the conference would come down firmly on independence and a closer relationship with Germany, but the conference only came down for independence, the closer relationship dependant on Germany recognizing them as an independent state. The conference created the Council of Lithuania, formed from a group of men of a variety of social classes and positions, and they were set the task of negotiating terms, but it wasn't until Germany finally lost the First World War in 1918 that the Lithuanians were finally in sufficiently good of a position to push through the independence they wanted. World War II and reconquest by Russia lurked in the country's future, but, for the time, Lithuania was free.

Adam Cuerden 01:03, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Fixed the first, I think the second is right as written though, surely. Adam Cuerden 01:32, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

As someone born in America, who's lived in Britain for 16 years (Specifically, North England for 4, Wales for 4, and, most recently, Scotland for 8), that may well be. Plus, I read a LOT of Victorian literature. Adam Cuerden 01:45, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Wikimedia genealogy project

Just wondering if you have any thoughts re: the idea of WMF hosting a genealogy project. If so, feel free to contribute to this discussion. And apologies if I have made this request before. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:43, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

List of schools in the Marlborough Region

I saw that you removed the links to school websites from List of schools in the Marlborough Region per WP:External links. I request that you reconsider. WP:ELYES says that "Misplaced Pages ... should link to the subject's official site", and the school websites are useful resources (in general) for verifying basic information about each school, such as its location and the educational level catered for. This is a featured list, and the external links were present at the time it was featured. The format used by this list is also used by a number of similar lists which are linked at the bottom of the article via Template:New Zealand schools. If you feel strongly that these links are not appropriate, I request that you raise the matter of whether they should be removed from all these lists at WP:NZWNB, or at any noticeboard you consider more appropriate, but with a courtesy link to the discussion at the NZWNB board.-gadfium 04:44, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Locks of the K&A

Thanks for your message. The numbering is traditional (and used in all the books etc), but things change... At Bath Locks two locks were combined into one deep one (numbers 8 & 9 as you suggest) The other one Ufton Lock (was No 98) had its gates removed in the 1970s.— Rod 08:33, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

The info re Ufton is included at the head of the section "Locks" and it does say "ungated" in the entry in the list. BTW all the lock gates have little plaques on them with the numbers on so I don't think the system will be changed to take account of the removed ones.— Rod 08:57, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

Dear Neelix,

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

Neelix, please reverse the Template editor protection on the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant page. Per Misplaced Pages:Protection_policy#Template_protection it should not be used in mainspace at all, despite that the software allows it. It specifically indicates it should not be used to end content disputes, even unbalanced ones. Either full protection (along with the responsibilities of maintaining the edit requests) or semi-protection is the preferred option. Soap 22:34, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

I have reverted the protection at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. Being a page you created less than a month ago and extensively edited, you are obviously INVOLVED here, and should not had used your administrator rights in relation to it, especially to further your position in what essentially appears to be a content dispute. If the edits you are reverting are clearly vandalism, then other administrators can handle it in administrative capacity, and you can of course bring it up at WP:RFPP. -- KTC (talk) 22:44, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for letting me know about WP:INVOLVED; I had not encountered it before. I will probably follow the course of action you recommend. Neelix (talk) 22:51, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of JC's Girls

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article JC's Girls you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Ritchie333 -- Ritchie333 (talk) 14:21, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of JC's Girls

The article JC's Girls you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:JC's Girls for things which need to be addressed. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Ritchie333 -- Ritchie333 (talk) 18:02, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Pray tell

Bearing in mind that the name of the account was indeed inappropriate, what possible grounds do you have for the rationale that THIS was a "vandalism-only account"? Carrite (talk) 01:40, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

I also note that you failed to notify this seemingly good faith newbie editor of the reason for the block so that he could make amends. I add additionally for the record that there appears to be WP:OWN issues surrounding this block, as has been pointed out in a thread at Wikipediocracy. Carrite (talk) 01:47, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
No one called for your head or demanded you recant — just that you explain yourself and not be biting newbies, particularly those who impinge upon your (generally excellent) work. Take a real wikibreak for a week or two and come back strong. Best regards, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 02:49, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
