Wushantou Dam and Reservoir

Should we merge the articles Wushantou Dam and Wusanto Reservoir? All the other articles on Taiwanese dams and reservoirs, Techi Dam for example, have both covered in a single page. Transphasic (talk) 01:02, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

• Support. In the list of dams and reservoirs in Taiwan, Wushantou is the only reservoir that doesn't link directly or redirect to its "dam" article. Phlar (talk) 22:00, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Election articles

Hi everyone. The most recent local elections in Taiwan have been referred to as Taiwan local elections, 2014. However, all the other election articles are "Republic of China...." This is understandable as the ROC article was renamed to Taiwan only after most of the election articles had been created.

I assume that there should be some uniformity regarding the election articles, as Taiwan hasn't changed it's official name recently. Should:

a) there be historic renaming of election articles to "Taiwan...."?
b) only new election articles refer to "Taiwan"?
c) everything go to "ROC" and stay like that?

I wouldn't want to go with c), as clearly there's a preference for "Taiwan" headings at least on the 2014 local election article.

I was wondering if anyone had any views or how this issue might get resolved if there's deadlock? Are there any policies that would help decide how the articles should be titled? John Smith's (talk) 08:56, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

My impression was that we used ROC for articles strictly related to the state / government and not just the place (which is also what I'd support doing), so maybe the election article should be moved. On the other hand, you're definitely right in that there seems to be a trend towards just using Taiwan in all titles, so let's see what other people think. Yes, the closing consensus at the move discussion went towards "Taiwan" being used for the place, however "Republic of China" remaining in use for government topics, hence President of the Republic of China is an article, but President of Taiwan is not. Consensus can change, but we will need a proper discussion for that first. Also, I too think that this is better suited for discussion at WT:TAIWAN, this talk page is specifically for improving the Taiwan article. --benlisquare_T•C•E 05:49, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Given that it's been a few days and there haven't been new comments, I've moved the article to make it consistent with the other ones. We can still discuss whether we want to go the other way and rename all post-1949 (or whatever bar it is that people want to set) election articles. wctaiwan (talk) 17:59, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

... and got reverted with no new comment at the talk page; sigh. (The edit summary was same as the central election commision website http://engweb.cec.gov.tw/files/11-1030-5692.php, which is fine, but we need discussion to gauge consensus.) wctaiwan (talk) 04:37, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

I sort of agree with him though. I'm all in favour of using article names that people recognise and are most common. It is easier to rename the article to confirm with the rest than rename the rest to line up with this one, but I think the best solution is to rename the other articles to use the word "Taiwan" rather than ROC. Portia Li

Are there any Chinese speakers who could help in sourcing this article about a reporter for the World Journal, Chinese-language American newspaper owned by the same group that runs the United Daily News in Taiwan? It's quite possible that there are articles in the Chinese-language press, but they're hard to find and interpret without a knowledge of the language.
