Template:Infobox Television Survivor Survivor: Worlds Apart is the 30th season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor, which premiered on February 25, 2015, with the season finale on May 20, 2015. It was filmed in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, the same location as Survivor: Nicaragua, Survivor: Redemption Island, and Survivor: San Juan del Sur, and features three tribes of six new players divided by social class: white collar, blue collar, and no collar. This season introduced the concept of an extra vote, in which one player can vote twice at a single Tribal Council, which was offered during the season's Survivor Auction. This season also saw the return of the firemaking tiebreaker challenge, last used in Survivor: Gabon.

Mike Holloway was named the winner in the final episode on May 20th, 2015, defeating Carolyn Rivera and Will Sims II in a 6–1–1 vote.

Contestants

The cast is composed of 18 new players, initially split into three tribes containing six members each: Escameca ("Blue Collar"), Masaya ("White Collar"), and Nagarote ("No Collar"). The cast includes former football placekicker Tyler Fredrickson. Additionally, So Kim was originally cast on Survivor: San Juan del Sur with her sister, but they dropped out after her sister had a medical emergency the day before the game began.

Future appearances

Mike Holloway, Carolyn Rivera, Shirin Oskooi, Joe Anglim, and Max Dawson were included on the public poll to choose the cast of the subsequent season, Survivor: Cambodia. Due to Holloway winning Worlds Apart, he was invalidated from participating in Cambodia. Anglim and Oskooi were ultimately chosen to compete.

Season summary

At the beginning, the cast was split into three tribes based on socio-economic background: White collar (Masaya), Blue Collar (Escameca), and No Collar (Nagarote). The Blue Collar tribe was socially dysfunctional despite performing well in challenges, and a majority alliance formed between Mike, Kelly, and Dan. The White Collar Tribe lost the first challenge and none else, and two pairs formed: Max and Shirin, and Carolyn and Tyler. On the No Collar tribe, a trio formed consisting of Joe, Jenn, and Hali. The three tribes were shuffled into two for the last two tribal challenges before the merge arrived.

At the time of the merge, a clear majority alliance existed led by Mike, consisting of Kelly, Dan, Sierra, Rodney, Carolyn, and Will. However, Rodney was planning to overthrow Mike as payback for Mike organizing Joaquin’s elimination right before the merge, and formed a sub-alliance of himself, Carolyn, Will, and Kelly. However, after Joe, the biggest target, won the first immunity challenge and the majority tried to eliminate Jenn, Jenn played her idol and eliminated Kelly. Kelly’s elimination facilitated the split in the majority alliance, although they ultimately continued to eliminate the former No Collars and Shirin. All the while, Mike, realizing that he would undoubtedly become the next big target and soon be on the outside, began forming bonds with all in the minority.

Once the minority alliance was eliminated, Mike had to rely on winning immunity challenges to avoid being voted off as the next biggest threat, and forcing everyone else to turn on each other. He ultimately won five of the last six challenges; after his only challenge loss, he played his hidden immunity idol that he found after the tribe shuffle and negated the votes against him, eliminating Tyler. He then went on to win the final immunity challenge on Day 38, securing himself a spot in the final tribal council while the vote at the final four was forced to a tie between Carolyn and Rodney; in the subsequent fire-making challenge, Carolyn won and Rodney became the 8th and final member of the jury.

Mike, Carolyn, and Will were the final three. Will faced severe criticism from Shirin and the former No Collars for his rude behavior and betrayal of his old tribe, Carolyn was considered to have been mostly under the radar for most of the competition despite claiming that she made moves towards the end, and Mike was praised particularly by the No Collars and Shirin for surviving with his back against the wall the entire time. Mike was ultimately voted as the winner with six of the eight jury votes, while Carolyn and Will only received one each.
