Borat: Cultural Learnings from America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is a movie scheduled for release in November 2006, starring Sacha Baron Cohen and directed by Larry Charles. The movie is a low-budget mockumentary comedy featuring Cohen's character Borat.
Plot
The film involves Borat leaving his home in Kazakhstan to come to the U, S and A and record a documentary at the behest of the Kazakstani Ministry of Information. He leaves behind his mother, wife and the town rapist, but brings his obese friend Azamat. While in America he watches an episode of Baywatch and falls in love with Pamela Anderson, so he buys an ice cream truck and drives from New York to Los Angeles to have her vagin and make her his wife. Through the course of his trip he interviews people from across the country. Most of the movie is not staged; rather, Cohen, in character as Borat, interviews and interacts with people who do not know they are being filmed for a movie (they later sign releases allowing the footage to be used). Some comedic highlights include a naked wrestling match between Borat and Azamat which spills over into a crowded business seminar, and Borat's appearance on a crowded beach wearing only a tiny green thong which stretches from his crotch over his shoulders. The film will have its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2006. However, it was recently given a sneak preview at the 2006 Traverse City Film Festival, co-founded by Oscar-winner Micheal Moore, due to the long friendship between Moore and Charles. It was the only film in the lineup there that was a true premiere, as all other screened films had already hit the festival circuit in other places.
