The discography of J Balvin consists of three studio albums, one mixtape, twelve singles, five featured singles, three promotional single, ten music videos and other album appearances. In 2009 Balvin released his first single "Ella Me Cautivó" becoming his first song charted in the United States, which serves as the first single from his debut studio album Real that was released in 2009 and received a Gold certification. El Negocio, released in 2011, was less commercially successful than Real but produced two hit singles that gave him national recognition, "Sin Compromiso" and "En Lo Oscuro" both charted Colombia's top ten. In the beginnings of the 2012 released a mixtape that includes some singles and new songs, only was released in United States and Mexico.

On April 24, 2012, Balvin released "Yo Te Lo Dije", the first single from his upcoming album, the song was number one in Colombia for non-consecutives eight weeks and became his first charting entry on the Billboard Latin Songs, peaking at 13, also the song was a huge hit in Romania. The second single, "Tranquila" was top ten in four countries and peaked the charts on Greece. In 2013, released the third single "Sola" that was number one in Colombia and charted in Bulgaria. On October 15, 2013 released "6 AM", which features Farruko, was later sent to Latin radio and received heavy rotation, becoming his first number one Billboard Latin Rhythm Songs and peaked at number three at Billboard Latin Songs, the song was certified Gold in Mexico and Spain. That October 2013, Balvin released his third studio album La Familia that peaked at number ten on the Billboard Latin Albums, top the Billboard Latin Rhythm Albums and recently received seven platinum and two gold certifications. In 2014, released the fifth single "La Venganza". An expanded version of La Familia subtitled B Sides was released on September 16, 2014, that spawned the hit single "Ay Vamos", that eventually top the charts in Colombia, Dominican Republic and the Billboard Latin Rhythm Songs.
