::I appreciate your thoughtful response. The 30/500 restriction is a a relatively new one, and applies to "any page that could be reasonably construed as being related to the Arab-Israeli conflict" - regardless of whether or not it is tagged as such. The restriction applies to literally thousands of pages, the vast majority of which are not tagged. It strains credulity to believe that text such as " Palestinians exiled in 1948 are denied their right of return." could not be reasonably construed as being related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. And indeed, though I reverted the IP at least three times citing the aforementioned restriction, they did not once claim that it does not apply. I think you are clearly mistaken if you think that without such a tag anonymous users are free to edit, but will take it up on an appropriate notice baord to get confirmation. | ::I appreciate your thoughtful response. ::If I may, let me offer you a different perspective on the sequence of events: You were gamed by a scrutiny evading, IP hopping anonymous editor, who was edit warring on an article he was not even allowed to edit once. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that 86.132.200.118 , 81.132.248.242 and 81.132.249.228 are one and the same. Between these IPs, they reverted the article 7 times since mid-December, including 3 times within 2 hours on Dec 13. Yet instead of blocking them, or protecting the page, you rewarded them by responding to their request for page protection by blocking me. The is par for the course, which strengthens my argument. ---|---|
You are invited to join us at New York University for Misplaced Pages Day NYC 2016, a Misplaced Pages celebration and mini-conference as part of Misplaced Pages 15, the project's global 15th birthday festivities. In addition to the party, the event will be a participatory unconference, with plenary panels, lightning talks, and of course open space sessions. We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.
We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 17:56, 23 December 2015 (UTC) |

VisualEditor News #6—2015
Read this in another language • Subscription list
Did you know?A new, simpler system for editing will offer a single Edit button. Once the page has opened, you can switch back and forth between visual and wikitext editing.
If you prefer having separate edit buttons, then you can set that option in your preferences, either in a pop-up dialog the next time you open the visual editor, or by going to Special:Preferences and choosing the setting that you want:The current plan is for the default setting to have the Edit button open the editing environment you used most recently.
You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.
Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has fixed many bugs and expanded the mathematics formula tool. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving support for languages such as Japanese and Arabic, and providing rich-media tools for formulæ, charts, galleries and uploading.
Recent improvements
You can switch from the wikitext editor to the visual editor after you start editing.
The LaTeX mathematics formula editor has been significantly expanded. (T118616) You can see the formula as you change the LaTeX code. You can click buttons to insert the correct LaTeX code for many symbols.
Future changes
The single edit tab project will combine the "Edit" and "Edit source" tabs into a single "Edit" tab, like the system already used on the mobile website. (T102398) Initially, the "Edit" tab will open whichever editing environment you used last time. Your last editing choice will be stored as a cookie for logged-out users and as an account preference for logged-in editors. Logged-in editors will be able to set a default editor in the Editing tab of Special:Preferences in the drop-down menu about "Editing mode:".
The visual editor will be offered to all editors at the following Wikipedias in early 2016: Amharic, Buginese, Min Dong, Cree, Manx, Hakka, Armenian, Georgian, Pontic, Serbo-Croatian, Tigrinya, Mingrelian, Zhuang, and Min Nan. (T116523) Please post your comments and the language(s) that you tested at the feedback thread on mediawiki.org. The developers would like to know how well it works. Please tell them what kind of computer, web browser, and keyboard you are using.
In 2016, the feedback pages for the visual editor on many Wikipedias will be redirected to mediawiki.org. (T92661)
Testing opportunities
- Please try the new system for the single edit tab on test2.wikipedia.org. You can edit while logged out to see how it works for logged-out editors, or you can create a separate account to be able to set your account's preferences. Please share your thoughts about the single edit tab system at the feedback topic on mediawiki.org or sign up for formal user research (type "single edit tab" in the question about other areas you're interested in). The new system has not been finalized, and your feedback can affect the outcome. The team particularly wants your thoughts about the options in Special:Preferences. The current choices in Special:Preferences are:
- Remember my last editor,
- Always give me the visual editor if possible,
- Always give me the source editor, and
- Show me both editor tabs. (This is the current state for people using the visual editor. None of these options will be visible if you have disabled the visual editor in your preferences at that wiki.)
- Can you read and type in Korean or Japanese? Language engineer David Chan needs people who know which tools people use to type in some languages. If you speak Japanese or Korean, you can help him test support for these languages. Please see the instructions at mw:VisualEditor/IME Testing#What to test if you can help, and report it on Phabricator (Korean - Japanese) or on Misplaced Pages (Korean - Japanese).
If you aren't reading this in your favorite language, then please help us with translations! Subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact us directly, so that we can notify you when the next issue is ready. Thank you!

End of TAFI message
I think that the "Removing {{TAFI}}, article for improvement period has concluded." statement could also include "Feel free to expand further, if you wish", or something like that. What I am thinking is that there is no deadline in improving articles. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 00:19, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Good idea! We certainly don't want to make it seem like improvements only occur within the AFI period. I shall update the copy accordingly. Thanks! — MusikAnimal 19:54, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Gathering my wits...
After a little while, I'd like to ask more seasoned admins to review my actions. Is there a way to create an "admin action log"? For instance, CDS and PROD logs only go to the beginning of this year, because even though I'd been nominating pages long before the logs were created, it didn't occur to me to create a page that tracked these actions. So far I haven't found a way to track my deletions/blocks etc. Many thanks! 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 18:21, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @78.26: Your logged actions can be viewed at Special:Log/78.26. I don't know of any editable logs, like those from TW. — JJMC89 (T·C) 19:27, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- @JJMC89: thank you. That's not limited to admin actions, but it would probably work as I am also capable of making non-admin mistakes! 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 19:34, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- @78.26: It can be filtered to the desired log type (deletion/block/etc.) in the first dropdown. — JJMC89 (T·C) 19:39, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Got an edit conflict, here's my reply (but thank you JJMC89!):
- @78.26: Pretty much everything on Misplaced Pages is logged, it's just a matter of finding them. Check out WP:MOREMENU for a nifty script that links to relevant logs for admins, E.g. block, delete, and protect. Full logs are at Special:Log, where you can set your username as the "performer", to see only actions you have taken. I've only very briefly looked at your logs but the judgement looks right to me! However note you can modify actions, rather than remove/re-add, as you did at Wissam Ben Yedder. Are you using Twinkle? It automatically matches move-protect settings with the edit-protect settings. Here it's kind of redundant because non-autoconfirmed users can't move pages anyway... I guess we should change that, but the edit/move protect sync is what the native interface does, so we just mimicked that (I help maintain Twinkle). Anyway it's fine if you also move-protect, I think this is more or less the norm. Best — MusikAnimal 19:48, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Clarification
Would you mind walking me through the thought process that led to this ? I had made one revert over the course of 6 dix days, and that revert was of an IP editor, who is not allowed to edit that article at all, and could have been reverted an indefinite number of times without violating the 3Rr rule, per WP:ARBPIA3#500/30. When Other Legends Are Forgotten (talk) 00:53, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- @When Other Legends Are Forgotten: Hmm, well I wish you had pinged me in your unblock request. This was indeed in response to the WP:RFPP report. Upon looking at the revision history of Ethnocracy, I saw that you were continually reverting others' edits. There was a clear content dispute involving multiple editors, with you on one side of the dispute, suggesting a failure to work with others to establish consensus. Whether the content is truly appropriate or not, I have no idea, but one look at the talk page shows extensive discussion, so the revision history should not show a version of the article continually being enforced by a single editor. Thus the block itself was from a pattern of edit warring, not a 3RR violation. Continual edit warring, over a long period of time, is just as worthy of a block as violating 3RR, as it suggests there is a likelihood it will continue. From your talk page history it was clear to me you were aware of what edit warring is and how to go about resolving content disputes. That is the thought process I went through, to answer your question. The chosen duration of 24 hours was procedural for a first offense, and not a seemingly useless punitive measure. By contrast, if there were multiple editors on both sides of the dispute, full protection would have been more appropriate.I will admit I did overlook your impression that some of these reverts were exempt, as you say, however on the talk page there is no indication this article is under a 30/500 editing restriction, which there should be if that were the case. As such I think it's only fair to say the anonymous users are free to edit. I suppose that matter will need to be addressed apart from your concerns with this block — MusikAnimal 01:56, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate your thoughtful response.
- If I may, let me offer you a different perspective on the sequence of events: You were gamed by a scrutiny evading, IP hopping anonymous editor, who was edit warring on an article he was not even allowed to edit once. The gloating is par for the course, which strengthens my argument. Take care. When Other Legends Are Forgotten (talk) 04:16, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
