hi Anthony -- please don't put notes about articles in the articles themselves, like you did with Vital source magazine and in your cleanup of vandalism at Limestone. For vandalism, leave a message on the user's Talk page (use {{testn}} templates). For pages, leave a tag like {{advert}}, discuss on the Talk page, or bring it to WP:AFD if you think it should be deleted. thanks! bikeable (talk) 19:06, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

oh, and a list of template messages can be found at Misplaced Pages:Templates. bikeable (talk) 19:08, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Dear Helper

Could you please tell me about what to do if the vandaliser is unregistered? Also, i have found that not all registered users have talk pages. Does everyone have one and I am looking in the wrong place, or what is wrong?

Please help, and thank you for your last assistance. I will use the templates and not leave reasons in articles any more.

Thanks Anthony.

Well, for starters, the best way to fix vandalism is not to edit the page but simply to "revert": see Help:Reverting. If you look at the history of a frequently vandalized page like George W. Bush, you see that it's full of reverts (usually marked as "rv" or "rvv" for "reverted vandalism" in the edit histories). that way you're just returning the page to the previous state. You can leave a message on a Talk page for someone with an IP address, and they'll still get it. For example, I left a message using the {{test4-n}} template on User_talk:167.7.248.212 when they vandalized Limestone. Of course, you don't have the power to block people, but stern warnings often work. Poke around frequently vandalized pages, check out the edit histories and diffs and see how other do it, and of course check out WP:RC. thanks for helping! bikeable (talk) 19:33, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Apologies,

It was accidental to place that comment on your talk page; it was designed for another users.

However, thank you for the information that no-one has deliverately vandalised. Once again, I apologise for the accident.

Thank you, Anthony 19:23, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Here is my diff. From what you just said, it appears that the action which was recorded by this diff was not due to a bot, but I am still curious. Are you executing a script with parameters or a version ID? Are you parsing a history? I do not believe the message was created by hand. That is why I am curious. Regards, --Ancheta Wis 19:28, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
On the face of it, you are generating a script for use by RC Patrol. True? --Ancheta Wis 19:31, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I'll vote. --DanielCD 19:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

I am sorry, the kind woman helping me when i started out pointed out comments about anti-vandalism are designed to be placed on the User Talk page; I have not yet reverted one of my comments miscorrectly placed on the page, but you have pointed out. Thank you.

Also, please forgive me but I am relatively new to Misplaced Pages, so I really do not know what you mean by a script for the RC Patrol! (obviously i know what the RC patrol is, but how do you write a script?()

Thanks, Anthony 19:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I asked because your usage pattern seemed to be time-based somehow.

OK. You are not generating a script, and you somehow placed your antivandalism message on my page inadvertently. But for your information I had also just reverted a vandal. Did you mean to direct your message to:

  1. 19:16, 14 March 2006 (hist) (diff) Talk:Main Page
  2. 19:08, 14 March 2006 (hist) (diff) Talk:Main Page
  3. 19:07, 14 March 2006 (hist) (diff) Talk:Main Page

The one who vandalized the Main Page Talk at these times? 19:43, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I am sorry, i am not sure if it is the same person; if i can check, I will get back to you.

The reason they are all similar time frame is becuase I am using the RC Patrol's "Lupin" Checker, an excellent anti-swearing tool that scans ALL recent changes against a hugh banned words list and shows them to members of the RC Patrol to edit. The list of recent changes that match the banned language list is displayed, with quicklinks to the vandaliser's talk page, and an auto-warning option to immediately send. If you are in the RC Patrol, you should consider it: http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Lupin/Anti-vandal_tool

Once again, I am sorry i cannot identify if the vandaliser i warned is the same on your talk page. I will get back to you as soon as i know.

Thanks Anthony 19:50, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Say What?

It's vandalism to fix mistakes and add comments to Talk pages? I'm sorry. I guess I had the wrong idea about Misplaced Pages. I'll stop contributing.

Thanks, Mac OS X 20:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Dear "Mac OS X"

Please do not stop contributing to Misplaced Pages, however your addition was incorrect. Please do not take offense, but simply consider additions more carefully.

It is possibly someone is using your account, or there is a bug under your name. Please contact the Administrator or place {{helpme}} on your talk page for more detailed assistance.

Thank You

Could I get a description of how an addition was incorrect instead of a message simply informing me that everything I'm doing is vandalism? I haven't noticed any of my contributions being reversed.

Thanks,

Please take a little more time learning

Anthony cfc,

You really should not police others until you understand policy. When you contact the next alleged offender, please cite a link to the policy to them so that we can check that you are enforcing an appropriate item. I recommend that you start reading by reading Misplaced Pages:Five pillars. If you enjoy RC Patrol, then by all means, stay there, but you mustn't drive people away by incorrectly stating Misplaced Pages policy.

True, there is a lot to learn. But practice on your own turf first, before you start to drive away editors. --Ancheta Wis 20:29, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Could you be more specific?

You've suggested I've made nonsense or obscene changes to Misplaced Pages. Could you be more specific? I believe you are mistaken. --Joe Decker 08:19, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Chazeram

Yeah, I'm an admin, and I indefinitely blocked him after posting that notice. Thanks for the post-nomination though, that's two people now who have nominated me after the fact :) And since I nominated myself originally, I accept these as retroactive noms. :D --Golbez 21:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Class334 3-car juniper.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Class334 3-car juniper.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 16:05, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

RE: Trains Project

You are quite welcome to become a member of the Trains WikiProject. And of course, all you need to do is to add your name to the member list (which you have already have done), and you are officially a member. You are, therefore, not breaking any rules. Have a nice day! --Kschwerdt514 23:13, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Who are the hall monitors, and how do you join?

I don't really know what a hall monitor is to do with Misplaced Pages, but maybe you mean administrators? Well Misplaced Pages:Administrators explains all about that, how to become one etc. --Commander Keane 13:26, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
