Articles that look like shit and need to be fixed

You're My Only Hope

Hi BMK. If you have a moment to review a new proposed update to Benjamin Genocchio, I'd be grateful. Hope all is well. Penelope1114 (talk) 14:24, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

I will take a look, but probably not until tomorrow evening EST. BMK (talk) 06:56, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
I just took a quick look, but it's going to take longer than I thought, since, at first glance, it doesn't appear to me that some of the references provided support the claims being made -- which means I'm going to have to examine the refs pretty closely. Unfortunately I can't do that tonight for personal reasons, so I'm going to have to try to get to it tomorrow. BMK (talk) 01:46, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Completely understand. I look forward to hearing from you when you have time. Penelope1114 (talk) 03:03, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Merger discussion for Dry lightning

An article that you have been involved in editing—Dry lightning —has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. Pierre cb (talk) 05:07, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 3

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Battery Park City (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver)

Dracula’s Daughter - re-reverting your reversion of my small edit.

‘Duplicate’ means ‘to make an exact copy of’

‘Replicate’ means ‘to repeat, duplicate, or reproduce’

The two meanings do overlap, but I think you’ll see that ‘replicate’ is the more appropriate. Valetude (talk) 13:36, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Commas

You wrote, "Actually, slow down on your commas altogether. I don't care what MOS says, there's no way a simple sentence like "Fred Subjectmatter died in his sleep on January 1, 2016 in his son's house in Buena Vista, Arizona" should be written "Fred Subjectmatter died in his sleep, on January 1, 2016, in his son's house, in Buena Vista, Arizona" Commas should be used to add coherence to a sentence, or to mirror natural speaking patterns, not because some big book of rules says to. Please utilize some common sense." "Utilize": should be "use". Otherwise: Just because you don't like the look of a comma doesn't mean the comma is optional. Indeed, some commas are negotiable (e.g., the Oxford comma). However, other commas are not optional and are required. That's why the MoS deals with them. In these two cases, the year in the date (when the date is written in this format) and the second element of a geographic location are treated as parentheticals.

Bottom line: you use too many commas, which makes a hash of the sentences. You'll notice that after you reverted my edits, other editors restored them, and several editors thanked me for my edits. Your edits are grammatically incorrect. BMK (talk) 07:33, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Please explain your revert

Please can you explain why you reverted my edit at Talk:Bayard Rustin Educational Complex (or re-revert). My edit was to remove that talk page from a category for articles. DexDor 07:12, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

I didn't like your screen name. <g> No, the truth is I didn't notice that you had removed the categories by adding a colon before them, what I thought I was reverting was the "small" tag, which I believe I have fixed now. BMK (talk)
Thanks. Fyi I often use the "small" tag when making an edit like this as it provides an indication that the original posting has been edited - a comment like "Note: Edited to prevent incorrect categorization. <sig>" could (also) be added, but (especially when editing comments from years ago or comments that have no responses) I don't think that's necessary. DexDor 08:12, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry about this, I thought I was following WP:DASH. The manual of style says 23 July 1790 – 1 December 1791, not 23 July 1790–1 December 1791, which is why I made the edits. I'll stop editing them, but I wish someone had caught this before now, as I've made what I thought were manual of style edits to articles for years. Again, sorry, but I'm sure if you see my edit history you'll know my intentions were all in good faith. Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 15:37, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

What should be done with the edits I have already made? Cmr08 (talk) 15:40, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Cmr08: Actually, it looks like the relevant guideline here is MOS:DATERANGE, and MOS:DATERANGE does seem to provide for a "spaced ndash" ({{snd}}) in situations such as "birth – death" date ranges. So I'm not sure you were wrong Cmr08... Thoughts, BMK? --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:40, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
