Raymond du Puy de Provence was the Second Grand Master of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (Knights Hospitaller). He accepted the eight pointed Amalfi cross as an official symbol of the Order. After the establishment of the Order on Malta, it became known as the Maltese Cross.
