WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Mymensingh division been declared, but the outline is yet not clear
I have updated and created a few maps w.r.t. the creation of new Mymensingh Division. Though the PM declared the establishment of the division, the outline and directive is yet not clear. We need to closely monitor the situation and update things accordingly. With the newly created division, the divisions map of Bangladesh is no longer 3-colorable and now I am using 4 colors. I experimented with several sets of colors. Other interested parties may also help. – nafSadh did say 13:33, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Going with this source, the declaration seems to be unofficial. We need to wait a bit before changing the maps. However, the article on Mymensingh Division needs to be expanded. --Zayeem 06:39, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- I am keeping the 7 division version now, we can retrieve the 8 division version any time. I couldn't find any other source in national newspapers or anywhere else. – nafSadh did say 16:08, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
ISBN mentioned in Faujdarhat Cadet College article
Hello all. I am in no way assosiated with this project, but I decided to occupy some time with fixing broken ISBNs. On the page Faujdarhat Cadet College there is a reference to a book: "Mohammad Ataul Karim, A Steeplechase Story, Katskill, December 2008. ISBN 9843000029319."
The matter is that that ISBN is impossible. It has 13 numbers and it begins with 984, which is the national code for Bangladesh. However, such a code can only start ISBN with 10 numbers in total. Rather obviously there is an error somewhere. I would ask if anyone has any idea what the correct ISBN for Mohammad Ataul Karim's book called "A Steeplechase Story" is. It seems to be a very obscure book and, as far as I can tell, just about every reference to it is either directly copied from Misplaced Pages or doesn't list ISBN...
This is an extremely trivial matter, but I ask just in case anyone here can verify this.
Yours truly, Voltteri (talk) 06:52, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Voltteri I fixed it. It was not ISBN but EAN. -- Magioladitis (talk) 16:19, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

I have nominated Rabindranath Tagore for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:15, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Modhu
Modhu, apparently a term of respect, found in many articles, but what does it mean? Should it have an article? What language is it?--DThomsen8 (talk) 19:43, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi @Dthomsen8: 'Honey' means 'Modhu' in bengali. Sometimes it's a part of a name, i assume that's why you see 'Modhu' in different Bengali articles. btw, It's not a term of respect and I don't think we should create a different article for it. ~ Nahid 20:44, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Corruption In Bangladesh
Hi! I recently came across the article Corruption in Bangladesh. It's interesting, but deeply flawed, with missing information and blatant POV without supporting citations. I don't have anything like the knowledge required to improve it, if anyone could add to the many empty and underdeveloped sections or remove any false or misleading sections it would be awesome. 84.92.209.58 (talk) 10:41, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

WP:BDPLACE
There is no discussion or promotion. Have we adopted it? Are we running a pilot? @Nafsadh and Kmzayeem: Aditya 06:41, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- We should run the pilot. Lets's start the project in the talk page. We can run a promotion on BDPLACE right after we are done with Bengali people collage. Meanwhile, lets prepare for it. I have also been formulating a BDMOS. I'll put that forward later. ~ nafSadh did say 12:18, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Just noticed the discussion at WT:NCGN got closed due to the lack of participation. However, the proposals there were quite useful. I suggest we should run the pilot based on those proposals and then file a new final draft at the NCGN. --Zayeem 10:41, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Bengali Script
Apparently Arr4 added a thing called WP:BENGALISCRIPT, which is copied from WP:INDICSCRIPT, without consensus. This is an incident which if escalated should be an ANI. Note that, WikiProject India adopted a policy to not use Indic scripts in the lede, while WikiProject Bangladesh has a different norm. --nafSadh did say 15:16, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Lets adopt BDPLACE
Request for Comment on WP:BDPLACEThere is a generic conventions for geographic names. But that is not clear enough for places in Bangladesh. That is why a WP:BDPLACE is proposed and it is time to adopt it.

Comment on notability of Draft:Khan Bahadur Hasem Ali Khan?
The article makes a lot of major claims of significance, but I'm finding very little about him online; possibly he's more written about under some alternate spelling? Or perhaps extensively covered in Bangla writings but less so in English?
I would appreciate it if anyone could comment on whether this figure merits an article. Feel free to add comments directly to the top of the draft so that reviewing editors can consider them. Thanks! MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:35, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Murarband Darbar Sharif
I've been having a problem with an editor who keeps adding this and this sort of content. Is this alright? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:37, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- Anna Frodesiak The content is irrelevant - what matters is that the person is making claims which need to be backed with a source and this person is providing no source. It is better removed until they provide a citation. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:38, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, Bluerasberry. Sensible as always and good point. However, if sourced is the content really appropriate for all these articles? I can't even quite figure out what it is about. It is a shrine which is a place which is a land of saints who have a family family tree. Huh? :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:07, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Anna Frodesiak All kinds of people come to Misplaced Pages and most of them take time to learn how Misplaced Pages works and what they are supposed to do here. From the link you gave it seems like someone made separate Misplaced Pages accounts when they intended to make Misplaced Pages articles. Beyond that, I think they were trying to make biographies of the members of a family tree and to relate them to a place where there is a shrine.
- Whatever someone is trying to do, if they can provide sources and keep things simple then it is best to try to keep their content somewhere. It seems like this person wanted to have a narrative of multiple biographies in one article and did not use sources, so especially because of lack of sources, Misplaced Pages cannot keep the content. It would take someone's time and attention to help this person and their own willingness to change the content, and that might be difficult considering that we are starting with so many problems. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:56, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. I'm torn in two directions. I have to protect against disruption and at the same time AGF and be gentle. I really had to do my best to stop him pasting that content everywhere. We are talking probably nearly a dozen pages, even after asking him to stop. Anyway, thank you for your feedback. Please feel free to contact the user in question and give him some guidance, if you like. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:22, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Besh Korechi Prem Korechi (2015 film)
The article Besh Korechi Prem Korechi (2015 film) was heavily edited by a sock of a known hoaxer and was consequently deleted as a hoax. However, the film seems to exist; I found some sources discussing it. My Bengali isn't good enough to check whether the content is accurate or to ascertain whether the film is notable. I have thus sent it to AfD. If attention by people interested in Bangladeshi films can help, it would be appreciated. Huon (talk) 19:30, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Pageview stats
After a recent request, I added WikiProject Bangladesh to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Bangladesh/Popular pages.
The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the Tool Labs tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 23:22, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Bangladesh experts. Here's a draft article that has never been submitted for inclusion in the encyclopedia. There are a lot of references, but I can't tell if they are good ones (reviews, articles in magazines, books of newspapers, etc.) or if they are conflict of interest (announcements of upcoming events, user-contributed databases and forums) or unreliable (personal websites, blogs, social media, etc.) Is this a notable topic?—Anne Delong (talk) 20:44, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Question: What is a "superhit" and who gets to make that judgment?
Greetings, WikiProject Bangladesh! I've been cleaning up a number of Bangladeshi film articles in recent days and I keep coming across claims that certain movies were "superhits". At first I thought this was just a subjective opinion on the part of an editor, but I've also been encountering the phrase, "it was declared a superhit." In fact, if you look at the page for Apu Biswas, her filmography includes classifications of the "hit" status of her movies: average hit, hit, superhit, etc.
My question is: is this just a subjective piece of Bangladeshi (or more broadly, Bengali) film terminology, or is there some trade organization in Bangladesh that actually certifies these movies as hits, superhits, etc? I ask this because I want to know if claims that a movie was a "superhit" are subjective opinions (which I would think should be deleted from the articles where they appear) or if this is a more objective statement. Thank you to anyone who can clear this up for me. Tigercompanion25 (talk) 22:24, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
Edits by SheriffIsInTown
User:SheriffIsInTown is going around Bangladesh-related articles and removing anything he considers "anti-Pakistan". This includes replacing the accepted facts of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide. I'm currently too preoccupied with real life issues to monitor his every move, but someone has to take note of his extensive POV-pushing.--Akbar the Great (talk) 09:04, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- Instead of keep on removing this comment, it will be better to focus on real problem. As per whatever little experience I had with Sheriff, I don't think that Akbar is wrong here. But he should raise this issue at WP:AE, that will be better. Sheriff has been already notified for sanctions regarding articles he edits. He should edit carefully. --Human3015 19:13, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- Like how, carefully? I did not expect such a blanket statement from such an experienced Wikipedian. How about you identify the edits which i did not do carefully? Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 19:19, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- This is really not blanket, I already told you few things on your talk page in past. I don't want to repeat it. Still just to repeat one thing, your edit summary like Gandu on featured article is still unjustifiable in any case. Thats why I said to be careful while editing. There is not much wrong if you have pro-Pakistani POV, there are many highly experienced users who have Pro-Pakistani or Pro-Indian POV. Leave about that abusive edit summary but your overall behaviour is such that you don't want anything should be written against Pakistan. This will not happen. If anyone want that anything should not be written against India or Bangladesh still that will also not happen. You should be little flexible and should be brave enough to accept some facts. If Akbar posted about you to get attention of some users then its ok. --Human3015 20:01, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- You already addressed that summary line with me at my talk page and i explained why i did that so i am not sure why you are highlighting that again. Misplaced Pages is a learning process and i was still learning at that time and am still learning now. Your assessment about my overall behavior is wrong that i don't want anything written against Pakistan. I have provided policy based reasons for my edits most of the time and my issue with Akbar the Great was based on policy reasons. You are welcome to write anything you want against Pakistan but if it does not fall on Misplaced Pages's policies then that will not happen as well. My main objection about edits of Akbar the Great was that what he was putting in those articles, it was not according to the source he was providing and those edits happen to be anti-Pakistan because his main area of work is promoting Bangladesh and maligning Pakistan so off course if i would object to any part of his edit, i will show up as Pro-Pakistan. There is also ownership issue with this user. It seems like he thinks he owns all Bangladesh related articles and a Pakistani should not work on those articles. I have had lengthy discussions with him at my Talk page and anytime i have had any discussion with him, the result was more aggravation. You are not completely aware of all the circumstances. This is not just one occurrence of him accusing me of "POV-pushing", he has done that before at several occasions. Not just facts, I am brave enough to accept whatever is properly sourced whether its a fact or not. Answer to your last point, i don't have problem with him posting about me to get attention of some users, my problem is the way he posted and the way he framed me as a POV-pusher and has been doing previously as well, also check out User talk:SheriffIsInTown#Restoration of personal attack to see a couple of those past occasions. Template:RPA is for these types of messages which has personal attacks in them and i applied it because i considered it a personal attack. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 21:14, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Category/ies being gutted?
I wonder if there is a technical solution to this problem. A page was recently removed from a category that I believe has real-world importance as a resource, and I've started a discussion at Talk:Centre_for_Law_and_Mediation_(Bangladesh)#NGO, not built by political parties. Now I wonder how to find out what other pages might have been removed from that category. Does anyone know of tools that could help? I believe that if a category is added to one's watch list, the only changes that appear are actual edits to the category encoding, that pages added to the category or removed will not be listed. Perhaps, of course, the real problem is that wikipedia categories are too flaky to be relied on in the real world, and we need to set up List of NGOs in Bangladesh instead. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:14, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Sminthopsis84: You may find https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T3710 illuminating. My reading of it is that for ten years people have wanted a way to watch for removals from categories. It seems to be regarded as technically difficult, but not impossible, so someday we may see a technical solution. Until then you may want a list. Worldbruce (talk) 15:47, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you very much @Worldbruce:! For those skilled in mediawiki matters there is also Mediawiki CategoryWatch, but apparently it is not technically supported. The problem here is, of course, that a knowledgeable person is needed to set the list up, without having the category entries available to work from. Perhaps there are many other categories that need to be converted to lists as soon as possible! Sminthopsis84 (talk) 16:37, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
So I've made a small start on List of non-governmental organizations in Bangladesh with much more to come as I have time. Perhaps it can co-exist with the category: the category provides some interlinking between the various pages, and the list provides a way to monitor these matters. It turns out that it is automatically linked from Template:Asia_topic, called from the lists that exist for other countries. Ideas about how it can be better integrated into this project would be welcome. Also, if an administrator sees this, could the page be pre-emptively partial protected? Judging by the number of talk pages of anons that link to the lists for other countries, this will be prone to spurious changes from IPs. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 13:53, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Correct Bengali spelling of name Samir?
I believe that the Bengali form of the name Samir, given in that article as সামির, was misspelled. I did some research and changed it, correctly I believe, to সমীর. But although I am a linguist I don't know Bangla, and this should be checked by someone who does. Please see Talk:Samir#Bengali spelling for discussion. --Thnidu (talk) 21:24, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Pakistani POV pushers
The above users belongs to a club of Pakistani POV pushers, who wants to show that Pakistan Army were the good guys and Mukti Bahini were the bad guys. They are working together to promote preposterous theories sourced from Pakistani websites and Pakistani writers. Pakistan Army came to rescue the Bihari women from being raped by Mukti Bahini, Indian Army and Mukti Bahini were involved in mass rapes.
Mass removal of content, large scale POV pushing to make Misplaced Pages look like a Pakistani encyclopaedia. They are spreading their propaganda all over Bangladesh related articles, Rape during the Bangladesh Liberation War, 1971 Bangladesh genocide, Bangladesh Liberation War, Mukti Bahini.
